Oliver and Elizabeth are a bunch of dummies, but I’d physically fight people with my fists for them. There were so many moments of anticipation, I could hardly stand it. The chemistry was so impressive and I laughed out loud several times. Another great read from Adams!
I am really loving Adams writing style. Nothing too stuffy and stiff. I know I am not a normal regency reader. I like when they don’t stick to closely to regency rules unless they are an amazing author this leads to a boring story. Adams story’s are not boring and have some really great moments between love interests. This is a story of fun, loving Oliver and adventuress, socially shy Elizabeth. Elizabeth has loved Oliver forever, why can’t he see it?? Oh my goodness there were some seriously swoony moments in this. The kiss was well worth the wait and so well written! Gosh I wanted to shout for joy:} So much fun. The end was a little drug out to me, I couldn’t believe they went so far in their actions! Geezz. I am for sure an Adams fan:} If you like Rebecca Connolly or Esther Hatch you will like this story.
Proper romance, sweet clean and no religious base.
Not necessary to read the others first but it helps to start with To Con and Gentleman then the novela Seeing Mary.
This was my first book by Sarah Adams and it was a delight. I particularly enjoyed how well each of the characters were defined. I really felt as if I knew each one as more than a character in a book. I loved the enduring friendship between Oliver and Lizzie which rang so true throughout the story…and the flashbacks of their earlier years. I am definitely now planning to read Sarah Adams’ previous books in the series as this was my first. I am so happy to have found another author of sweet romance is to read and follow.
What do you do when you are in love with your best friend but he doesn’t seem to return your feelings? Elizabeth has to decide if she wait for Oliver to notice her or move on with Wesley, an interested suitor during her first season in London. This book was delightful and emotional and I love the relationship between Elizabeth and Oliver…except for their difficulty at communicating. The characters are likable and engaging and you cannot help but be invested in their story. This will make you feel all the feels – definitely a must read for any regency romance fan!
I’d say 5 stars for being able to spin a tale and hold the readers attention. Lots of romantic tensions and some funny escapades. I appreciate the story was kept a clean romance. I also appreciate that in the begining Sarah Adams lets the reader know she has taken a few liberties with the time period and so not everything is strictly Regency. Without that the veering off would’ve bothered me since I love a good Georgette Heyer and the like. However, I don’t think she veered off too much. What dropped the rating for me was how Lord Hastings was handled. I dislike how that was done. I think the author was building up dramatic tension but it just kind of took away some of the good feelings you get at a story’s resolution. I found the explanation of the resolution with Lord Hastings far fetched. As well as how a side story of a side character and a birth. Just a few sentences to wrap that up without too much detail and then it was done. I don’t mean details of the birthing process, lol. I mean that whole story line resolution. It’s difficult to explain without giving a spolier. (Those two portions of the story would be a 3 star for me) The romance felt real and I did genuinley like all the characters.
My list of favorite authors keeps getting longer and I can add Sarah Adam’s name to this list! She is quite skillful at balancing serious topics with humor in her writing, and this book is no exception. The romantic tension and longing between Oliver and Elizabeth is palpable and rife with misunderstandings and communication problems and I found myself rooting for them to overcome their roadblocks to happiness. Yet, despite these issues it was refreshing to read the comedic repartee and humorous descriptions interspersed throughout the novel.
Although this book is part of a series it can be read as a stand-alone since enough background information is provided about previous events and recurring characters. If you love clean Regency romance, do yourself a favor and read all of the Dalton Family books in the series. You’ll be glad you did! I highly recommend this book and this author!

She needs to move on. He wants to let her go. Will they finally be able to go their separate ways even though their hearts seem to have other plans?

My review :
Can their friendship move to something deeper or will their fears hold them back …
This book left me with dueling feelings, one I loved the friendship and brotherhood between the many characters, their bickering and witty banters were what sucked me in this story, then I was very upset by the way the main couple dealt with their sentiments, using others as pawns in their game to avoid facing their emotions.
When I began my reading, I was a bit afraid as I am not very fond of characters bottling their feelings and putting them aside by fear of rejection as it often lead to much more hurt than opening one’s heart, and I was right.
Lizzie thinks she can overcome her girl infatuation turned to love with her best friend, still he is so ingrained in her soul she can’t shake up out.
I understand she needs to put distance between Oliver and herself, but why the need to absolutely find a suitor whom will by any miracle erase him from her system. Either she does the job herself or she avows her love and sees how he reacts.
Oliver is wrongly persuaded there is no future for him and Lizzie, his past and legacy might always come between them and he might hurt her.
Why he adopted his social mask as a charming wagging fellow, with heart’s change at every corner of a ballroom.
While the story is humorous and sweet, I do not agree with Lizzie for toying with another man’s feelings when she was not herself free to do it, it was kind of unfair and cruel.
As I was upset at Oliver for letting his father wins their wills’ battle, by letting him take hold of his thoughts, he stayed a pawn and by the way doomed his relationship with Lizzie when never once he showed any inclination to cruelty or violence.
This was my first read by Mrs Sarah Adams and I loved her writing style and wry humor, so it is sure it will not be my last.
4 stars for those two stubborn pigheads who might loose everything because they lack courage to face their fears.
I was granted an advance copy by the author.
Here is my true and unbiased opinion.

Such a delightful read! Oliver and Lizzie have been friends for years, and Oliver has been pulling Lizzie out of scrapes; Lizzie is just so spunky and so much fun! It is Lizzie’s first London season. She is, and has been in love with Oliver for years: “Hopelessly devoted to Oliver Turner.” Oliver is haunted by the abuse of his father, and he feels that he will become like his father, and that Lizzie deserves better. Lizzie feels like he does not return her love, so she attracts the attention of Lord Hastings, and he begins to court her. Will Oliver and Lizzie get together or are they star-crossed lovers. I loved the scene where Lizzie “enjoys” too much champagne at the ball.
Sarah Adams writes charming stories, and this is no exception! Lizzie is a strong character, which I loved, and she has an adventurous spirit. Lord Hastings and Oliver are very likable, and it is so much fun to have characters from her other novels, such as Kate, show up in this novel. Oh, and the first kiss scene is dreamy! This is a clean novel, the characters are developed nicely, and the plot is original.
I received an ARC copy, and I look forward to more of Sarah Adam’s writing!
Loved, loved, loved this book! I read To Con a Gentleman and thought there was no way the next book could top it, but wow! I may have enjoyed this one even more. It had so many funny parts and the build up to the kiss was AWESOME! Sarah Adams is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors- I’m always a little sad when her books end. If you are wanting a cute, clean read I would highly recommend this book.
I had an ARC copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. What a great book. I fully enjoyed reading this regency novel. The characters are wonderful and the plot is filled with humor and miscommunication both of which add to the plot. I would definitely recommend reading this book.
This book was so much fun. Elizabeth would never be able to fit the mold of the young miss required by society. She and Oliver had a common problem, failure to communicate. The couple is lucky they have family on their side. Sarah Adams out did herself with these characters. The perfect follow up to To Con a Gentleman.
Utterly delightful from start to finish, and I loved every minute of it! I’ve been anxiously awaiting the next opportunity to reunite with the admirable Ashburn family after enjoying this book’s predecessor, To Con a Gentleman: A Regency Romance (Dalton Family Book 1) , and my reunion was everything I hoped for and more. These characters are so authentic that they leap from the page. Their emotions are palpable and beautifully rendered. I laughed out loud at their witty banter and amusing circumstances. I cried with them through their fears and traumas and heartache. I shouted at them in vexation! (They have no compassion for my poor nerves!) I highly recommend this series to fans of Sarah M. Eden’s Regency romance books; you will find the Ashburns are as real and lovable as the Jonquil and Lancaster families. This was a thoroughly entertaining story that felt like spending time with old friends. A truly fantastic continuation of a great series!
Do yourself a favor and read this book! It took me 2 days and I wish I could have read it faster! Wait I take that back first read to Con a Gentleman (book 1) then this. They are both amazing! Elizabeth and Oliver’s story is jam packed full of every emotion and Sarah Adams has such a way with her words that you feel what they feel and it is just soo good! And what’s even better is it’s a clean regency romance with well developed relationships not just superficial “love” – 5 Stars I would recommend this to anyone!
To Catch a Suitor is one of those fabulously written clean reads that gives you all the feels and you cannot help but fall in love with the characters. This book was such a fun story to read and I also enjoyed that it didn’t have a predicable ending. I was seriously worried for a moment that things were not going to work out! Oliver and Elizabeth have loved each other forever, but never shared that fact with one another. Oliver does not believe he is good enough for Elizabeth and loves her so much he believes by not sharing his love for her he is loving her better. The way the author wrote their interactions was totally swoon worthy and adorable.
This book does have more of a modern voice to it, but it was enjoyable and I was reading for the story not the historical accuracy. I am glad the author chose to tell the story from both main characters perspectives which added a lot to the great humor in the story as you see the fun insights into each characters’ heart and head. I laughed often while reading.
I really enjoyed this novel and definitely recommend it!
This is the first book by Sarah Adams that I have read and I really enjoyed it! She did a great job of getting my emotions involved. Some times I wanted to yell at the main characters to just tell each other how they felt. I loved that she used flashbacks to help us see how their love for each other started. I also loved hearing about some of the other characters that are in previous books because it makes me want to read their stories. I really did enjoy this book and I look forward to reading more by her.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
