I received a complimentary copy, this is my honest unbiased opinion.
This book gripped my heart from the very first word “Rifle” and did not let go. I swear I could smell the gunpowder, hear the crack of the rifle and the echo of the bullets flying across the town towards the enemy. And that was just the first chapter!
Hunter is a sharp shooter fighting the French. He is calm in the heart of the storm, his eye and hand steady as he defends the field surgeon, his daughter and wounded men in the last stronghold while waiting for reinforcements to arrive. Bridget is the daughter of the doctor here to save the wounded men, she has learned everything possible at his side and helps him with surgeries, stitches men up herself, and helps in the infirmary after battles keeping spirits up while making sure the men don’t make their injuries worse. She is strong, knowledgeable and fearless in trying to help these broken, injured men heal and become as whole as they can after the horrors they’ve seen and the wounds they’ve received. Throughout all of this she has managed to keep her heart protected… until Hunter saves her and is wounded doing so. Theirs is a story not to be missed!
I won’t go into minute details because you need to experience this story first hand. Ms Jackson has once again delivered a masterful love story full of tension that builds and that is all the more real for the flaws of it’s main characters. I do believe this us now my favorite couple in the Revelry’s Tempest series, I love them even more than Violet and Theo. Oh and fellow Logan fans… that mysterious, formidable, gorgeous man shows up in this story too! I can’t wait for his story which is coming soon, but not soon enough!
I read this short story in one sitting, I could not put it down. These are two characters you will fall in love with and keep thinking about long after you finish the book.
I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

K J Jackson excels at creating compelling characters and emotional situations that will have you turning the pages as fast as you can. From the first word at the beginning of the story, “Rifle” you are thrown into a fast paced whirlwind that does not stop. The story starts in 1812 Spain in the midst of the Peninsular War where we find Bridget and her physician father. They are working in the hospital with the wounded when their building is attacked by the enemy. Hunter Crawford was one of their patients and stepped up to fight to save their lives. What happens next will change both of their lives forever. As the two grow to care for each other in the aftermath, circumstances soon separate them. Finally coming back together years later, they have been through so much and there are terrible forces at work trying to keep them apart.
Even though this was a shorter read, it packed all the elements of an unforgettable story in it’s pages. Secrets, mistrust and strong emotions will carry you through the pages and leave you only wanting to read more by this author!
Before I write anything else, let me state that this is a beautiful, wonderful romance and so worthy of the full 5 stars I have given it.
KJ Jackson won me over as one of my favorite authors after I read her first three books in the Revelry’s Tempest Series. Now she has come out with a spinoff to the Tempest Series with Logan’s Legends. This is the second novella in Logan’s Legends and I’ve elected to write a review of it before my review of the first.
To Capture a Warrior literally gripped me with its beginning. The opening scene takes place on the continent during the Napoleonic wars with our heroine helping to load rifles being fired by a sharpshooter. Bridget and her surgeon father are holed up on an upper floor in the infirmary with the sharpshooter. Their chances of receiving help from other troops are slim. Even though Hunter, our hero, is very accurate with his firing, the French are closing the distance to the building. Bridget is encouraged to escape out a window on the other side opposite the French but she is not willing to leave her father. She is pushed out the window and the gist of the story starts from this point.
I am reluctant to reveal much more of the story and plot as I’ve never liked to spoil the reading pleasure of others who are using reviews to decide whether to read something or not. Suffice it to say I did not want to put down this novella until I had read the last page. It has a believable storyline. I fell in love with the two main characters, Hunter and Bridget, who grow to love one another but through happenstance (or not?) are separated. There is plenty of action and more than one villain trying to keep them apart.
I highly recommend this read. I was fortunate to receive an ARC of this novella from the author in exchange for my voluntary and unbiased review.
Very good! I could not put this down. There is tension throughout that kept me turning the pages to find out what happens next. There are no ballrooms or glamour, but the nastiness of St. Giles, gangs, illness and poverty surrounding the h and H.
I read an advance copy and voluntarily reviewed it
These additions onto the first three books that focused on the ladies running the Revelry’s Tempest have been fun. I wondered about Logan often as he was a great supporting character in those stories. I look forward to the last one, his story.
