This wasn’t my favorite of this series, but I will say this author never disappoints! Still a very good read.
I really do love this series and each one of the girls is special in her own way.
Señorita Lucia de Feria, in this book is beautiful and has taken the men in society by storm. They all want her but as a mistress and she has been offered huge amounts of incentives. She was an illegitimate daughter of a lord, she hates society and the haughty men in it and they look down their nose at her. Her plan to become well known in society has worked and her plan for revenge is rolling along just as planned.
Silas Anson, Viscount Cavendish, left his life of privilege when he was a young man and learned to survive the mean streets and worked himself up to a successful man of business. He has recently come into the title, after his father died & Silas’ duty was to take his place. Silas despised the Ton and all the rules, parties, etc. that went with them but his aloof demeanor and handsome face fascinated society and the ladies were all fawning over him; although he never paid any attention to any of them and was ever linked to any female.
When Silas first saw Lucia, he was instantly drawn to her, which was completely out of character for him. He only wanted to keep the viscountcy solid and keep growing his business. Lucia found him to be unkempt in appearance, lacking in manners and just another of the aristocracy men. They just did not begin their relationship on the best of terms and it took awhile for Silas to realize she was not looking to follow in her courtesan mother’s footsteps & that she had dangerous secrets. After spending time with Silas and finding him not like to other society lords; her thoughts of him changed completely from their first meeting. I highly recommend this book and the entire series – there are wonderful main and secondary characters and entertaining stories to support the cast.
Book 3 of the Wallflowers. Lucia has many secrets and feels when they come out, she will be ostracized. Viscount Cavendish, who scorned society for many years, is quite taken with Lucia. Good ending
I enjoyed reading this book as I have all of the other Emma Leech books I’ve read so far. I can’t wait to see what happens to the other “wallflowers”!
Enjoyed reading
The more I read this series, the more I enjoy it.
I was a bit afraid about this one book as revenge plots are far from my favorite trope.
It usually only brings hurt and pain in its wake.
But Mrs Leech was able to mix each ingredient at the right dose from anger, fear and pain.
Lucia is there to retrieve what was stolen from her and for this, she sets a payback campaign on the man responsible for her loss. Because of her past encounters with men, she is weary of them. She knows she can’t trust nor love them.
Until a very unpolished lord shows her, some men are more than their rough facade.
Silas Anson has left behind his supposed life of privileged to rise himself from the gutter. A scandal for the ton but his path to freedom. Then he meets Lucia, a woman who seems to meddle perfectly with the London society before he had a glimpse of the real Lucia and understood she has bigger secret than him and her journey might as well drive her to hell gates.
Even if their relationship began on the wrong foot, each making assumptions about the other.
Slowly Silas will prove her he is not the usual peer, he does not want to win a contest of wealth to get his entrance to her bed, his set goal is to learn who she is and offer what she has once dreamed as a little girl.
It was a smoothly told story, a tale without fairies but some nice grandmother and friends to do the job, add magic and wits to their romance.
One more hit with this lovely new installment.
And I can’t wait for the other young women stories, each has its own personality firmly settle.
Intriguing Story of Revenge
Viscount Cavendish and Lucia were an interesting pair of “misfits.” Cavendish blatantly disdained the ton while Lucia wanted to be accepted by them, or so it appeared. Together they overcome an initial (and witty) dislike of each other, build a fragile trust, then fall in love. All this amid a stealthy plot for revenge. I enjoyed the book, though I thought Cavendish was a bit over-eager to help Lucia at the beginning, apparently so struck by her beauty.
I don’t know if I was just in a mood, or if it was the writing style, but this book didn’t hold my attention as previous books in the series had. I just didn’t connect with the characters as much. But it still ends happily and everybody had a smile on their face.
For whatever reason, I wasn’t as interested in reading this character’s story. Boy was I wrong. I loved this romance and the entire cast of characters.
