A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER#1 New York Times-bestselling author Jan Karon returns with the fourteenth novel in the beloved Mitford series, featuring three generations of Kavanaghs.Wounds heal, bonds grow stronger, and celebrations continue…Welcome back to beloved Mitford. After twelve years of wrestling with the conflicts of retirement, Father Tim Kavanagh realizes he doesn’t need a steady job … Father Tim Kavanagh realizes he doesn’t need a steady job to prove himself. Then he’s given one. As for what it proves, heaven only knows.
Millions of Karon fans will be thrilled that it’s life as usual in the wildly popular Mitford series: A beloved town character lands a front-page obituary, but who was it, exactly, who died? And what about the former mayor, born the year Lindbergh landed in Paris, who’s still running for office? All this, of course, is but a feather on the wind compared to Muse editor J.C. Hogan’s desperate attempts to find a cure for his marital woes. Will it be high-def TV or his pork-chop marinade? In fiction, as in real life, there are no guarantees.
Twenty minutes from Mitford at Meadowgate Farm, newlyweds Dooley and Lace Kavanagh face a crisis that devastates their bank account and impacts their family vet practice. But there is still a lot to celebrate, as their adopted son, Jack, looks forward to the most important day of his life–with great cooking, country music, and lots of people who love him. Happily, it will also be a day when the terrible wound in Dooley’s biological family begins to heal because of a game–let’s just call it a miracle–that breaks all the rules.
In To Be Where You Are, Jan Karon weaves together the richly comic and compelling lives of two Kavanagh families, and a cast of characters that readers around the world now love like kin.

Having read all the Mitford books and gotten to know all the characters, I feel like Mitford is my hometown. Every book is comfort food for my soul.
Great continuation of the Mitford series
I have read all of Jan Karon’s Mitford series and recommend you start reading the first one first! The characters, the town of Mitford and the story she weaves throughout the series is such a treat! I hate to finish one of her books because I don’t want it to end!
If you are a fan of the Mitford Series with Father Tim, you will probably enjoy this. It felt superficial somehow and I wonder if it’s Jan Karon’s last effort. It visits all the charming characters of Mitford and several generations of Father Tim’s flock. Some beginnings and some closures. Always feels like catching up with old friends to revisit Mitford.
Jan Karon writes the most wonderful books. Love the Father Tim series.
I love every one of her books. They are like comfort food.
Love all Jan Karon books! Met her at Mitford festival in Blowing Rock, nc. Beautiful person.
Jan Karon’s Mitford series is relaxing and inspiring. I have a tendency to live in crisis mode and the Mitford characters help me to come away with a more calm attitude.
All of her books are great
Another great book from Jan Karon.
Love, love, love the entire Father Tim/Mitford series from Jan Karon. I am currently reading this book, her most recent in the series. It is proving to be as wonderfully captivating as the others. Jan Karon has created the town of Mitford, situated in the North Carolina mountains, and populated with some of the most down-to-earth and entertaining characters. I know these people. Their lives are not all rainbows and unicorns, as very real issues and challenges arise for most, particularly for one family, which, if it existed in a city, would need social services involvement, but in small communities it is the town’s citizens who get involved. Start with the first one and read them all. The characters continue to develop throughout.
I love all of Jan Karon’s books
Jan Karon is the best!
Favorite series! Characters r wonderful! Hated for book to end. Not sure if someone would enjoy as much if they haven’t read the other books in the Mitford Series. There are a lot of characters and if you haven’t read the previous books you may get confused.
I never tire of the characters in this series, and this may be my favorite book in the entire series.
I love all the Mitford books and am so glad Jan Karon is continuing the series. There are somewhat sad moments along with wonderful, uplifting and humorous as always. I feel like the characters are family and their ups and downs are realistic but I want to be a part of it!
Reading this is like returning home to family. If you’re a fan of Mitford, and all the friends there, you’ll love this book, too.
Enjoy all Jan Karon books
