Oh my gawd! This book literally shredded my heart! It was a slow process the started with just a tug and a pull that then escalated into a full on ravaging. And then, just as only this author can do it, with one of the most amazing epilogues, it was put back together more perfect and fuller than when I began. This is the type of story that an addicted romance reader such as myself hungers for. The kind that will take you from a barroom littered with peanut shells to a place where the impossible is possible and black boxes no longer exist.
My heart hurt for Sofia and all that she had pushed aside as she was forced into the woman that she has become. I felt her pain and humiliation as this story opens. The words written to describe it so sharp and clear drawing the perfect picture of a woman completely lost as to who she really is and what her life had to offer. I’ve never before read a story where the heroine finds herself written in such a heartfelt way. Never cared enough about another character like I did Sofia. I was totally invested in her journey and how she would find joy in her life.
Dakota had similar struggles. He’s fighting his past and the expectations that have been placed on him all his life. With a dream for his future his days and nights are spent working towards that goal. I loved how, despite his initial frustration and impressions of Sofia, he recognized that he needed to take care with her. And that decision made all the difference. He became the man that didn’t make her stronger but that encouraged her to find the strength she already held within herself. Forget sexy times, those were the swoony moments in this story.
While this author tends to lace her books with some angst, I can’t recall another that held the level that Tinsel did. I teared up, I cried silent tears and then I flat out sobbed all because this couple were so perfect for each other. Their struggle pierced my heart and I experienced every emotion they did as they both fought to do what was right, what their individual lives required, and most of all to secure a future together. There might have been a time or two between the tears that I cursed this author for making me care so much.
This book flows from scene to scene without ever feeling heavy handed. Once I started I couldn’t stop and before I knew it I had reached its conclusion. Yes, there is definitely steam here, the best kind, but with a Deveny Perry book it’s about so much more. This author outshines herself with each new release and actually sets the bar higher for herself. And I know I’ve said it with each book in this series, but this one truly is the best of them all.
Tinsel is the fourth book in the Lark Cove series by one of my faves, Devney Perry. You can read it as standalone but I highly recommend reading the series. It’s sexy, emotional, and unique.
Sofia needs to get away from New York City. She is ashamed, embarrassed, and needs to find her purpose. She knew from a young age she wasn’t like her siblings. She wasn’t a golden child or a businesswoman. She was a princess. But, now at thirty-two, she felt useless. A hot mess. She was a divorcee twice over and nothing but a socialite. Over the last few years she has tried harder to be what the family wanted but now it was time to be the person she wanted to be. She just didn’t know who that person was yet. Her brother found a life in Lark Cove and maybe she would find her passion there too.
Dakota didn’t want her help. She didn’t even know how to sweep for God’s sake. What was he going to do with her for the next ten days!? He knew what his body wanted to do with the gorgeous woman but she wasn’t here for that. She was here to work. In a bar. To find purpose. He was up for the challenge but was she?
Sofia and Dakota had to fight their attraction from the very start. But why? She wasn’t there to fall in love. She didn’t want to go down that road again. Not for awhile anyway. And Dakota’s life plan did not include a wife, kids, and a white picket fence. There was no future for them so why not have a few days of fun!? Why not indeed. A fling never hurt anyone.
Will she find her passion? Will Dakota figure out where he belongs?
Awe. I loved this story. It might even be my fave of the series. I was not a Sofia fan in Tattered but I trust in Devney. I knew she would get me to fall and I did. Sofia is beautiful inside and out, smart, sweet and hardworking. She was more than I ever expected. Dakota too. I liked him in the previous books but we didn’t really get to know him until now. He is everything.
Overall…it’s emotional ride full of twists and turns, love, passion, understanding, family and lessons.
Quotes:
The minute her doe eyes met mine, my heart squeezed. Those crying eyes. They were going to ruin me.
She was so graceful. She was whimsical, like a fairy without her wings.
“Why am I not surprised you packed more clothes for a ten-day vacation than I own altogether?”
“I was gone the day they taught packing light in charm school.”
Sofia Kendrick has the world at her fingertips, and the money to buy anything she desires in it, but what she really wants can’t be bought… all she has ever wanted is time and attention from her family. Growing up her family members were off doing their own things, accomplishing goals and living their dreams, and often she was an afterthought to them. She missed out on someone teaching her valuable skills, and making her feel like she was an asset to the family. They never really gave her the encouragement she needed to find a career path or dream of her own to follow. So it’s caused her to doubt everything about herself, and what she is capable of… and made her think all she’ll ever amount to is the Kendrick family princess.
After a devastating article is published about her in a local magazine she decides it’s time to escape the unwanted publicity and embarrassment it’s caused, and she heads to Montana. She was just looking for a little peace and quiet, and a break from the limelight, but what she finds waiting there for her in Lark Cove is so much more than that… it’s life changing!
Amongst the pages of Tinsel lies intricately woven story about two wounded souls whose families have failed them, caused them to carry a load of self doubt, and made them feel undeserving of love. Then they find one another, an undeniable chemistry takes hold, and they begin to bring out sides of one another that they never knew existed…. and it is a beautiful thing to watch unfold. Going in I had my reservations about Sofia, but I tried to keep an open mind and give her a chance to change my initial opinion, and I am so happy that I did. She proved me wrong, after a couple chapters I began to see a side of her that surprised me, and lead me to admire her.
I absolutely adored everything about this story, the characters were phenomenal, they brought life to the pages, and put on an unforgettable show. Ms. Perry’s stunning words seeped into my soul, rattled my emotions, and left me forever moved. This is such a amazing story, and I feel like nothing I say will do it justice, all I can do is encourage you to pick it up, and embrace every word. They have the power to move you to tears, inspire you, make you smile… and of course make you blush too! Highly recommend!!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
We knew a different Sofia back in Tattered, now in Tinsel, we get to know a Sofia with the intention to change.
At first, she was just like a rich girl living the life with no worries, but even socialites have a “difficult life”, at least this was the case with her.
After a magazine made her look like a spoiled girl with no future, that she only cares for the material things, she needs something different that only Lark Cove could give her, at least that’s what her sister-in-law thinks.
Dakota has his own goals and he is determined to make them happen with no one helps, he needs to show to himself and his family that he can be successful, that is why, when sweet (but suoer rich) Sofia appears in his life, he can no fall for her or depend on her, becase his success wouldn’t be the same.
These two have a lot to think about what is worth to give up to finally be happy, they need a neutral ground for both to make their dreams come true, but their dreams don’t go hand in hand with their lives.
I loved how Dakota was able to help Sofia realize that she is worth for who she is and not because of her money, that someone can have money but no happiness if they don’t balance their lives.
These two brings out the best in each other, even when they are no promises of a future.
It was so good to know about past characters and about new ones.
I love everything Devney writes and Tinsel was no exception.
Phenomenal! What a way to end a series. I hate to say I had doubts, I didn’t think it could be done, I strongly disliked Sofia when we first met her in Tattered, Logan and Thea’s book, but I should have never doubted the power of Devney’s writing, because I not only came to like her, but I loved her.
Finally having her eyes opened to the way other people see her and how she acts, Sofia is feeling humiliated in the spotlight of New York, so she seeks solace with the people who love her most, her family, her brother and his wife, in Lark Cove. After confiding in Thea that she wants to find purpose to her life, Thea decides some tough love is what’s needed and puts Sofia to work in her bar whilst she and Logan leave on a romantic getaway overseas. Sofia is not fully alone though, she’s left under the guidance of sexy bartender Dakota.
The pair clash in the beginning, but there are soon sparks are flying, unfortunately it can only be temporary, for Sofia lives in New York and Dakota lives in Lark Cove. They grow closer but time apart is hard and both agree there is no future together, though neither can forget the other. Sofia has finally found her passion and starts her own business, whilst Dakota continues to work hard at the bar and saves to buy more rental properties trying to make his family proud. After a tragedy, Sofia heads back to Lark Cove to claim her man, but will he choose her over the mountain of guilt he feels not being with his family, desperate for their approval?
This was a beautiful love story that made me feel every single feeling, as I always do with Devney Perry books. I loved Sofia and Dakota, the people they were in the beginning and how much they grew throughout the story. I loved the side characters, especially the detective and Sofia’s sister and how much each of them cared for her. It was also great to see more of Xavier, Dakota’s uncle, who is the Sheriff of Lark Cove. The ending was especially perfect for the last book in this series, and saying goodbye to these characters is like saying goodbye to old friends. I’ll miss their stories but I know I’ll see them again when I reread them over and over.
Tinsel was another addition to Lark Cove series and honestly this book really saddening in a way. Having Money certainly is a luxury and yet it doesnt guarantee happiness and satistification.
I have felt the connection when I started the first chapter. I was mad and dissapointed with the situation. I didnt blame Sofia for the way she act or say because it wasnt her fault or choice.. she was raised with it.
She was lost, hurt, neglected and losing herself.. Vacation to Montana was a hope and a chance to escape.
Dakota Magee was a man with honor and pride. A Hardworking man who want to move forward to be successful away from his native family.
The story was a personal discovery .. to find their identities among the challenges. Dakota and Sofia were struggling and scared to made a commitment with each others. The story was easy to read and I cherished a lot of emotional struggle.. A story that will made me laugh, cry and memory… Devney made it surreal through Tinsel
oh my god! I basically devoured this amazing 6 star story in one day. I’ve read quite a few from this author before and LOVED them all, but Tinsel is now one of my all time favourites. If I get to be a blubbery mess then it deserves all the stars in the sky.
This is about Sofia a socialite who was on top of the world but fell off and it was not pretty. So she escapes to Montana for a week. She doesn’t expect to work and meet Dakota. He’s an hard working man who doesn’t want to babysit a spoiled city girl. But like they say opposites attract or are they that opposite?
This is the fourth book in the Lark Cove Series. They’ve all been amazing stories, but Tinsel managed to seep itself into my heart and stay there way after I was done reading it. What I look for in a story in order for it to be amazing are the characters. Sofia was not who she seemed to be. She was a selfless woman that was misunderstood. She made me feel so much with her actions. I loved this amazing storyline that was addicting and captivating. The creativity and level of writing is astonishing. It doesn’t lack originality. Bottomline this is a must read.
This story can be read as a standalone but I recommend for better enjoyment, that the 3 previous ones be read too. Told in a dual POV with an HEA. I strongly recommend this story.
6 Burning Bright shining stars
I’m having such a hard time saying goodbye to this series. I feel like a piece of my heart is now set on Lark Cove. And the truth is that I don’t it back. I wan that piece there, living and reliving from time to time, remembering all the goodness that happended there, and there were a lot of those.
As usual, Devney Perry surprised me and astounded me.
I’m gonna be completely honest here. When she said her last book on this series it would be about Sofia, I was actually “really? Her? Why?” I know…I was a complete jerk (but in my defense, Sofia was a jerk first).
But even if I thought that, I was also sure that she would bring one heck of a story. And it was way better than anything that I could even imagine.
Right at the first two chapters, my heart was alredy softened by Sofia Kendrick, and I was feeling her pain, her dispair, I could feel how lost she was.
But as the pages went by, she grew up so much! It was mesmerizing and addicting to read. She was blossoming, she wasn’t a princess anymore, she wasnt a damsel in distress. She was a woman. A woman with so many emotions and finding out that it was okay to let them flow. A woman with weakness and strengths, a woman vulnerable and seeking for her family approval, but also a woman so genuine and willing to find her passion and her way.
She shone. Not like a tinsel. But like a shining star.
And Dakota was right there to help her find her value.
Oh Dakota. He also had his own issues to deal with. But if you want a true, honest man, and man loyal almost to a fault, a hardworker, a dreamer, a doer….that is you man!
Coming from a rigid family, stuck in traditions, he was struggling to find the balance between his responsabilities to his own blood and the desire to be his own person.
When they started spending time together, there was no apparent thing common between them. But they both seeked their own path, and they both could count on one another for that strength, trust and inspiration.
“‘I’m not going to fall’
‘You might’
‘And you’ll catch me if I do'”
One thing that I also loved was there time apart. That is right. I thought it was so needed and sensible to do that. They couldn’t solely rely on one another.
Sofia needed time and space to be sure about her feelings (and not jump right into it like previous times) and she also needed to prove to herself that she could do it. Even is he inspired her, she needed to find her passion on her own, she needed to be her own person, with her own dreams and aspirations.
She needed to see for herself that she could do it without a man. She didn’t need a man. She was indepedent and strong by herself. But she wanted one. And not just any one. Dakota!
And Dakota needed that time too. He needed it to find his path, to make his choice, to find a balance between doing good for his blood, but following his own steps without guilt.
He needed this time to be free.
It may not have been easy at first. It seemed so distant, so dark, so hidden, they thought they could never make it work. But one thing great about Sofia: she was hopeful. Even being hurt so many times, even being lost, she still believed in love, in her love life, and she was willing to show him too, to help to be free.
“‘I see it. I see it so clearly, and it’s magnificent. It takes my breath away’
‘See what, babe?’
‘The future'”
Their love story showed so many new facets. Showed that there is always a way, a new path, a passion, a way to be free and to love and to be loved.
Actually, this whole series showed me that. Each book filled my heart, softned me and made me believe again. In life and in love.
And the recipe is simple.
“Chase The Impossible.
Be Bold.
Find Your Magic.
Burn Bright, Shining Star”
This is the second time this author has taken a side character from a previous book who was not well liked and given them their own voice and done it very successfully. I’m really impressed with how she has made me completely change my view point on a previous disliked character.
In book one of the Lark Cove series, Sofia came off as shallow and a spoiled brat. She is the younger sister of Logan Kendrick and she was not very welcoming to Thea.
Going into Tinsel, I was curious how the author was going to show her change in character. I’m happy to say she did a really, great job. It wasn’t a sudden change, that would be unrealistic. What we learn is that she was slowly trying to be a better person but it was a specific moment that really made her stop and re-evaluate herself. It made Sofia’s character more believable.
I also really liked how we got glimpses into her growing up that shaped her. I actually really empathized with her character as a child and it made sense how that could mold a person a certain way.
On the flip side, we got to see Dakota dealing with his own family pressures and expectations. Dakota and Sofia are from two different worlds and yet they still had to deal with the same type of issues with their families. It was a big part to how well they connected to each other.
This book had such a great message in it. It showed that no matter how perfect someones life is, we don’t know what they are truly dealing with in their life. I also thought it had a great message about how not dismissing others on how they handle stress or problems. Just because we don’t deal with things the same way, doesn’t make the other person wrong.
I have to mention that the love story in this is just as much worth the read. I loved Dakota for Sofia and I loved Sofia for Dakota. They were a pair you never thought to put together but were ultimately perfect for each other. The way they supported each other was a beautiful thing to see. These two have become one of my favorite couples!
Tinsel is definitely a beautiful story of love, introspection and hope. Never give up your dreams, learn to love yourself and your beliefs finding who you are.
This is the last book in the Lark Cove series, a place so beautiful you feel like you make part of it!
Sophia surprised me so much! I wasn’t expecting her to be this sweet and strong woman.
After all we read about her from previous books, I was expecting a brat, a very wealthy brat, used to have everything she wanted. I am so glad to say I was so wrong!
It was lovely to see her fighting for her passion, showing the world and specially her, that she is so much more than her money. She’s a beautiful person, inside and out.
Dakota is one of a kind. I fell in love with him early in the beginning of the book. His strong personality, great heart and hard work ambition, makes him the best match to Sophia’s fragility.
They are one of the best couples in the series.
Their journey to love is terribly emotional. I felt it hard inside my heart and the feeling the book gave me, is why I love so much to read.
I know I’m being vague, but that’s the beauty of going blind into a book! This one has some magic for the reader to discover! “Burn bright, little star.”
Devney Perry is a fantastic author. Her words grab my attention from the beginning, filling my heart with pure love.
5 Magnificently Burning Bright stars
Devney Perry has ultimately knocked it out of the park—of this whole freaking world—with the fourth book in her Lark Cove series. I didn’t think it could get any better after Tragic, but… here it is. Tinsel was just so much more than I thought it would be. It’s a soul-stirring, unputdownable and profoundly emotional tale that squeezed and tore my heart straight out of my chest. It definitely hit all the right spots for me. I had no doubts about loving it either, but I was astounded by how much it took over my life. How much I lost hours of sleep because I couldn’t, for the love of all things holy, stop myself from turning the pages. To say that I devoured this would undoubtedly be a vast understatement. All I know is that I cracked this book open, lost myself in it and never looked back.
“Dakota was more than just a good guy. He was top-shelf. His moral fiber ran so deep it was ingrained in his very being. With him, there were no games. No tricks. No ulterior motives. He was just pure and honest.”
All Dakota Magee has ever wanted was to live and see the world. But he couldn’t do that unless he broke free of his family’s traditions and left their struggling reservation behind. Mind made up, he moved to Lark Cove to start paving his way to achieve his goal. He worked himself to the bone as a bartender at Lark Cove Bar and acquired small investments here and there—seriously, this man’s drive and dedication was just beyond impressive. He rarely had time for anything else aside from work either, so when Sofia Kendrick strutted into town and fell onto his lap to babysit and train around the bar, he wasn’t so sure if he should be all too happy about it.
“She was an enigma. A puzzle. She was a woman who had everything in the world at her fingertips and yet seemed so . . . miserable and lonely. She seemed so lost.”
Sofia Kendrick got a fine dose of reality when a reporter chose to write a juicy exposé about her and her superficial lifestyle than the uplifting article they agreed upon. She was beyond ecstatic with this gig, thinking she’d finally make her family proud. Instead, she got the biggest shock—or should I say, slap (in the face)—of a lifetime. One that gutted her deeply, but also made her step on the breaks and reevaluate her life completely. Sofia may be perceived as a petty, shallow and spoiled princess, but given the chance, she’ll actually stun you with her utter sweetness, soft heart and sharp mind. And it only took ten days working and being with Dakota to flip her whole world upside down.
“A real man doesn’t fuck you for your money. He fucks you because you’re gorgeous. Because you come like a rocket. Because you have eyes that show him everything you’re feeling. He fucks you because nothing has ever felt better.”
I surprisingly felt such an intense and strong connection with these two. It wasn’t only because their attraction was instantaneous or their chemistry was more than palpable and undeniable, but I also felt deep in my bones every heartache and pain they endured; every hitch and hurdle they had to bear and live through; and most importantly, the surge of love and passion that simmered and burned bright between them. This is a couple you’ll want to root and live for. Sofia and Dakota certainly had this gripping and all-consuming spark that will draw you in and have you hooked in no time.
“We’d touched one another’s lives, leaving permanent marks neither of us would ever erase.”
Breathtakingly poignant and heartwarming to the core, Tinsel was a tale as unexpectedly gratifying as the pouring rain in a hot summer day that followed Sofia and Dakota’s journey to finding true happiness and love, and embracing their purpose and passion in life. It’s not just a story that you never knew you needed, but it’s one that will consume every single part of you. If this truly is the last book in the Lark Cove series, then Devney Perry made damn sure that she saved the absolute best for last.
We were first introduced to Sophia Kendrick in Tattered, the first standalone on the Lark Cove series. While Sophia started as an unlovable character when we first met her, she really did develop into a verrrrry lovable and complex heroine. This is a story of all the messy, imperfect and amazing connections that are in every family. We never know someone’s story until it’s written and I am ever so glad Devney Perry wrote Sophia’s story.
I loved this book more than I though I ever would! So if you want a read that is both deep, emotional, steamy and real, here is your perfect one. So worthy of 5 and more stars!
When I started reading It, I found myself thinking that Sofia and Dakota’s story would be just another cliché. But I was so damn wrong and so damn thankful to myself for having stuck with it a little bit longer and not give up just yet: first appearances can be misguiding.
Sofia is someone trying to find her goal, her purpose, something she is passionate about. So her struggle is one a lot of people find themselves fighting.
Dakota is someone trying to find a way to be free to decide his own journey, one that wasn’t decided by his family traditions. Also a fight a lot of ourselves are going through.
So both of them were struggling but their relationship allowed them to believe in themselves enough to realize they were meant for each other and could achieve their goals together. Their journey is one full of blissful moments and hard ones too, also the secondary characters are amazing and inspiring! And so damn real!
Devney Perry is now one of the best authors I had the pleasure to meet and look so forward to reading another one of her books! I don’t think I will be able to wait much time.
At first when I found out that Sophia was going to get her own book, I was not thrilled. But let me tell you this book was amazing!!
*5 Stars*
Devney Perry very quickly became a favourite author of mine when I started reading her books – I think it was only just last year. I’ve slowly been working through her catalogue of books, reading all the ones I already had sitting on my kindle or on my bookshelf, and I’ve loved each and every one.
Tinsel was no different. I wasn’t sure how I would like this one, because Sophia was a really unlikeable character when we met her in Thea and Logan’s book. But, in her own book, she really comes to life and into her own, and I found her to be quite a wonderful character.
Her story with Dakota is full of passion and connection, and it actually played out in a different way than I expected it to. I like how they both shared with each other what their innermost thoughts and struggles were, and how they had adult discussions about them and how, or if, things would be possible to move forward between the two of them.
I found them both to be really great characters, and this was another wonderful instalment of this series. Highly recommend!
Tinsel is the fourth book in the Lark Cove series, this is Sophia and Dakota’s story and it had such depth and was amazing!!
Sophia is Logon’s little sister she is a spoiled princess, and when she once again gets into hot water with her parents over an article in a magazine, she decides to head to Montana to spend the holidays with Logon and his family. Little does she know that Thea has decided her and Logon are going to go to Paris and wants Sophia to help out at their bar. Dakota is the regular bartender at the bar and he does not want help especially from the rich little princess!! He asks Thea did I do something to make you mad?? Thea knows that Sophia needs to find some purpose, what better way than to help out at the bar…did I mention it is New Year’s Eve??
Absolutely love this story, epilogue was everything that I love!!
This is a wonderful romance of the melding of souls and joining of cultures that I’d recommend to everyone! I could relate to the characters from the standpoint of being the youngest sibling as well as the need for family members to be proud of my accomplishments. In my opinion it is a really good book that I think many would enjoy!
I enjoyed reading Tinsel. I felt that this story brought the series to a close perfectly, although at the end of the book there is a bonus epilogue that you can sign up for which I am excited to read. I just hope it adds to the emotions I am currently feeling.
If I think back over the series, the author has penned stories that bring to the reader’s attention real life situations that her characters have to work through. In this book, we have two people who fit perfectly together and are desperately in love, but they lead very different lives and have been brought up in two very different backgrounds, plus they have their own personal goals to work towards – and I appreciated just how hard this was for both Sofia and Dakota.
I loved being back once again in Lark Cove and also spending some time in New York. Two completely different places which added to the story in my opinion. There are many things that I am going to take away from this novel – much of it is regarding Dakota and Sofia and the expectations and attitudes that they experience from others. I loved that my opinion of Sofia changed as I got to know her more and I was delighted that she was given the time and opportunity to work out the path she wanted her life to follow.
Tinsel is what I would describe as a lovely feel good story that you could sit curled up in a chair and read. I wish that it had had a little more ‘something’ to bring out the emotions in me, although I did need a tissue whilst reading the epilogue. I am happy to award this book 3.5 stars.
It has been wonderful to meet so many amazing people during my time in Lark Cove. My favourite story out of the four in this series is Tattered and I’m so pleased to have spent so many hours in this wonderful town.
This book is emotional, and sweet and all the things a good romance book should be. I really enjoyed it!
First, I’m finally all caught up on this author’s books! I have officially read every last one of them.
Anyhow…. This book. I really didn’t know what to expect with this one, as most books. I already had a first impression of her from the first book in the series. And it wasn’t a positive one. I wasn’t sure how her character would be able to change my mind. She was so self-absorbed and selfish. It’s not easy to show a different side of a character that vapid.
However, the author did a great job at keeping with her previous impression and slowly transforming her into a whole new, likable character. The author showed how much she relied on her money for things, and then learning how to be more self reliant and down to earth. It was a slow transformation, especially after she was able to see herself through others’ eyes.
Dakota was a perfect match for her. He challenged her, while bringing his own baggage to the table. I think with each of them dealing with each other’s baggage and their own at the same time taught them both so much about themselves and others. They were able to teach each other that perception isn’t always so transparent.
I really enjoyed this book. I had some giggles and almost teary-eyed moments in this one. It was a sweet ending, so to speak, to this series. I’m almost sad to not have more to read.
