From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Discovery of Witches—look for the hit TV series “A Discovery of Witches,” streaming on AMC Plus, Sundance Now and Shudder. Season 2 premieres January 9, 2021! What does it truly take to become a vampire? On the battlefields of the American Revolution, Matthew de Clermont meets Marcus MacNeil, a young surgeon from Massachusetts, during a moment … MacNeil, a young surgeon from Massachusetts, during a moment of political awakening when it seems that the world is on the brink of a brighter future. When Matthew offers him a chance at immortality and a new life free from the restraints of his puritanical upbringing, Marcus seizes the opportunity to become a vampire. But his transformation is not an easy one and the ancient traditions and responsibilities of the de Clermont family clash with Marcus’s deeply held beliefs in liberty, equality, and brotherhood.
Fast-forward to contemporary Paris, where Phoebe Taylor–the young employee at Sotheby’s whom Marcus has fallen for–is about to embark on her own journey to immortality. Though the modernized version of the process at first seems uncomplicated, the couple discovers that the challenges facing a human who wishes to be a vampire are no less formidable than they were in the eighteenth century. The shadows that Marcus believed he’d escaped centuries ago may return to haunt them both–forever.
A passionate love story and a fascinating exploration of the power of tradition and the possibilities not just for change but for revolution, Time’s Convert, the fourth books in the All Souls Series channels the supernatural world-building and slow-burning romance that made the previous books instant bestsellers to illuminate a new and vital moment in history, and a love affair that will bridge centuries.

I really hope there will be more books in this world?!?!?!
I tried to read this book on several occasions, but I couldn’t pay attention to the words. I loved the author’s trilogy. When I bought this book, I thought it was a standalone and not a continuation of the trilogy. I read half of this book before I got the characters straight in my mind. Her previous books had many characters with twisted stories. Once I was on track with the players, I soon discovered that this book has no plot of its own. It follows the transformation of a character from a human to a vampire in detail, hour after hour. Then I stopped reading.
Not as good as the original trilogy but always nice to check in with characters I’ve come to love. If you haven’t read the first three books, read those first. This is more of an after thought and not a stand alone.
The All Souls trilogy rocks!! Love the characters. I am ready to re-read them all again.
Wish it was longer then 5 starts for sure seemed short compared to the other all souls
Great continuance of the “All Souls” Trilogy.
Love Harkness’s writing and characters! She has built a wonderful world of interesting characters
Absolutely love this trioligy!!
Great continuation of the world already developed for us from a different point of view. I found it absolutely enchanting.
This book isn’t a good at the All Souls Trilogy. I did enjoy it, but I was expecting more. It focuses greatly on Markus and not so much on Matthew and Diana.
This is a continuation of her All Souls Trilogy and just as good as the first three books. It’s a pleasure to re-enter the world and eventful lives of the de Clermont family and follow them through the centuries.
The author continues to develop a world of witches, vampires, and daemons after her first award winning series. We continue to see the lives of Diana, Matthew and the twins. We learn about Marcus and Phoebe. The interactions of the DeClermont family never fail to entertain. This was a very enjoyable novel.
Loved this book, it encouraged me to go back and read the three All Souls books AGAIN.
I read the All Souls trilogy before Time’s Covert and the new book carries on the story. The author does a fantastic job of describing the places, events, and characters. I feel like I’m there too and I’m hoping she will write more books on other characters.
I’m also hoping the Discovey of Witches television series based on the first book in the All Souls trilogy will make it to the United States!
Time’s Convert picks up where the All Souls Trilogy ended. Diana and Matthew have the twins who are entering the terrible twos. Phoebe Taylor has opted to become a vampire as well as Marcus’s mate. As part of their traditional mating ceremony, Phoebe and Marcus are separated for 90 days while Phoebe transitions from an infant vampire. Marcus spends much of that time reflecting on his early life before the American Revolutionary War and after until the present. The three strands of stories alternate very nicely to make a cohesive whole.
Meanwhile, we get to visit with a number of other characters from the previous books which is always interesting. I really enjoyed the bits and pieces of history including the American Revolution and the French Revolution inserted in the stories. The drama around the twins’ expanding powers makes a fun read also.
If you liked the previous books, you’ll be happy with this one. I found it an enjoyable read.
An interesting look and update on some of the favourite characters from the beloved All Souls Trilogy, that tries to help the readers understand one of the more elusive vampires. However, this book painfully pales next to the series as the three storylines clash too much to be placed in one book. Catching up on Matthew, Diana, and the twins would make a solid story; Marcus’ backstory would form an engaging novel; and Phoebe’s transformation would be powerful on its own but all three make it feel squished and not fully formulated. There is no understanding why Marcus and Phoebe are in love and the audience does not gain anymore knowledge into who she is separate from everything else. The historical details are accurate, somewhat engaging, but cause to plot to slow down. The scenes with the twins invoke chuckles and are incredibly realistic, as any parent can attest to. For fans of the trilogy, this is a large disappointment, but as a stand-alone it’s only a mild let-down.
Recovering from a stomach virus, I read this book in one day. This book follows The Book Of Life. Matthew, Diana, the twins and Marcus are spending the summer in France at the family castle, while Marcus’s fiancee, Phoebe, is in Paris, being turned into a vampire by Miriam. Following vampire rituals, she could not have Marcus as her maker and then become his mate. They then must be separated for 90 days before they can be together, while she learns to be a vampire. Diana, sees how disturbed Marcus is and as a historian, slowly gets him to reveal his history and how he was sired by Matthew. This is where the book becomes fascinating, with his memories of the Revolutionary War and onward. The story swings back and forth between the present and past, between Phoebe’s growth and Diana’s anxieties about her Bright Born children. Captivating characters, spellbinding story and lush descriptions of the settings.
All of her books are worthy of your attention!!!!
