From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Discovery of Witches—look for the hit TV series “A Discovery of Witches,” streaming on AMC Plus, Sundance Now and Shudder. Season 2 premieres January 9, 2021! What does it truly take to become a vampire? On the battlefields of the American Revolution, Matthew de Clermont meets Marcus MacNeil, a young surgeon from Massachusetts, during a moment … MacNeil, a young surgeon from Massachusetts, during a moment of political awakening when it seems that the world is on the brink of a brighter future. When Matthew offers him a chance at immortality and a new life free from the restraints of his puritanical upbringing, Marcus seizes the opportunity to become a vampire. But his transformation is not an easy one and the ancient traditions and responsibilities of the de Clermont family clash with Marcus’s deeply held beliefs in liberty, equality, and brotherhood.
Fast-forward to contemporary Paris, where Phoebe Taylor–the young employee at Sotheby’s whom Marcus has fallen for–is about to embark on her own journey to immortality. Though the modernized version of the process at first seems uncomplicated, the couple discovers that the challenges facing a human who wishes to be a vampire are no less formidable than they were in the eighteenth century. The shadows that Marcus believed he’d escaped centuries ago may return to haunt them both–forever.
A passionate love story and a fascinating exploration of the power of tradition and the possibilities not just for change but for revolution, Time’s Convert, the fourth books in the All Souls Series channels the supernatural world-building and slow-burning romance that made the previous books instant bestsellers to illuminate a new and vital moment in history, and a love affair that will bridge centuries.

The book shows the author’s love of history. At time, the details for the historical tale of one newly born vampire took over the story, but as always, there was a purpose to the information as she compared Marcus’s mate’s birth to his own. Baldwin is even a kinder, gentler soul in this book.
Cozy readers who love historical will appreciate the historical references to the American revolution and the sickness that almost wiped out our country afterward.
TIME’S CONVERT is wonderful and fascinating. Deb Harkness never disappoints, especially when you’ve been waiting for something exciting and magical. If you haven’t read the All Souls trilogy yet, please do. If you have read them, this picks up where they left off. I was so happy to see Matthew and Diana again!
I recommend reading Deborah’s All Saints trilogy first, She expands on a relationship of two characters while she gives a reunion of sorts to the characters in the original trilogy. True understanding exists once the trilogy is completed and this book revisits the established concept of complicated vampire relationships.
Harkness imagination knows no bounds, making vampire’s is captivating and intriguing that leaves you hanging on every word until the end. This is a luring hot paranormal romance you can get caught up in
I found this book felt a bit different from the other All Souls books…there was less of an urgency (no quest for the book of life, etc.) but I really loved Marcus’s story. Now I’m wishing we could have Gallowglass’s story. I love him as a character, and he went offscreen in the Book of Life and we just get a glimpse of him in the 18th century in this book.
While not quite up there with the All Souls Trilogy that it is related to, this is still a great read. My only real criticism is that it would be difficult to read without having read the All Souls Trilogy first, as the characters were mostly developed there and a reader new to them might be confused.
I listened to this book on audio early this year during the first lockdown and loved it. There was something about looking at past pandemic and racism when we are living through it. It provided a different sort of insight. I also have a huge soft spot of American revolutionary history and this mixed with the continuing characters from the All Souls Trilogy which I adored… was perfect.
Great storytelling and love story .. I love witch and vampire romances, but Harkness’s story is wonderful in this All Souls Trilogy
I love the whole series!
4/5 Stars
3/5 Steam Rating
Let me start off by saying that even though this is the “first” of a new series, in reality it’s more like the fourth book of the All Souls Trilogy. I honestly think that you’d be a bit confused if you picked this book up without reading the other books first. When I saw that this book was out, I was expecting it to be a full spin off based on Marcus’ past. While this book was in fact about Marcus, Diana and Matthew were still main characters; so much so that Diana’s chapters were the only ones told from the first person, while Marcus & Phoebe’s chapters were written in the third person.
While this story wasn’t quite what I expected it to be, I was still very happy to read it. If you enjoyed the All Souls Trilogy, I have a feeling you’ll enjoy this too. Not only does this book enlighten us as to how vampires are actually “reborn”, but we get to see more of the twins and the rest of the de Clermont family.
While I loved catching up with this family that I grew to enjoy so much, I was a bit disappointed in the lack of a climax and tension within the story. I was use to the build up of tension within the previous books, that this one felt a little flat comparatively. With all of that said, I still thought it was an enjoyable read for those that loved the trilogy and crave more of the family.
The ending to a great series.
A great series.
Today is the day Phoebe is turned into a vampire to join Marcus in his lifestyle. The book takes you into the 90 day seperation period of the two required by vampire tradition. Through flashbacks you learn Marcus’s history of becoming a vampire and his participation in the American and French revolutions. Not just a supernatural romance, but a vivid party of vampiric characters, each with their own schemes and powers. An absorbing, informative read. Not just a supernatural romance, but also a story of a vampire and his adventures in the American and French Revolutions. Vivid, interesting characters. Easy to read.
1st one was a bit better though
More info and history to the series. Excellent!!
Excellent read
A fabulous historian in the flesh; writing intoxicating novels that cannot be put down. Harkness’s writing allows the readers to supplant themselves into the characters; you feel as if the situation is happening to you or that you are a third party throughout the story. Very interactive!
truthfully all of Ms. Deborah’s books have been fantastic! I was so thrilled to discover she’s continued the series beyond the first three books. I always thought that there is more to the “whole story”. Sure hope Gallowglass will meet his love. He’s missing from this book (sadly), but is mentioned. (He’s my favorite).. if you’re new to the series I would recommend reading from beginning; first, because the books are great and second, you’ll be lost otherwise.
It was a great extension to the All Souls Trilogy. Hopefully she will do the same for some of the other characters, like Gallowglass.
While associated with her All Souls series. This was interesting and gave good back story to some characters as well as creatures it feels a little disjointed to me. I am not sure what I was expecting but I feel it missed the mark for me.
