This is an adorable story featuring wildlife using the author’s beautiful photography as illustrations. The story inspires friendship and empathy for others while at the same time educates. Highly recommend.
An entertaining glimpse into the wonders of the wild!
“Time for Margot to Go to Bed” is author Lieve Snellings’ third book about a creature most of us never thought of as a delight to read about: Margot the Woodchuck (also known as a Groundhog.) Snellings’ photography enhances the adventures as Margot and her friends inform and entertain us about their habits and ingenious use of nature’s gifts. Employing cute little props and costumes, Snelling gives the critters a very appealing persona. And through it all we learn very important aspects of their lives in the wild. This book explores the necessary cycle of hibernation, which for most animals who “go to bed,” is just something they do when the time comes. For Margot, who is not like other woodchucks, it is also a time of sadness for she has to leave her friends for a long period of time. It is not surprising then that her friends offer some creative ideas as to how to make that separation much easier.
Through her charming storytelling, Snellings reinforces our belief that animals are sentient beings with emotions, who can form deep friendships, and are playful in their own sweet way. I strongly recommend that you acquire the first two books in the series as well as this one, to provide children with relatable tales that will instill in them a love for nature, and an educational glimpse into that mysterious world.
Margot is no ordinary groundhog. Most groundhogs do not have friends or visit with their families. Margot has lots of animal friends that she loves to play with.
Now that the weather is getting cooler, it’s time for her to hibernate. But Margot fears she will miss her friends too much. Her friends including chipmunks, squirrels, raccoons, and birds, brainstorm how to keep in touch. Can a cell phone, photographs, periscope, a magic spell or sweet dreams keep away Margot’s loneliness?
Margot is truly touched by her friends’ thoughtfulness and kindness. Children clearly get the message that we can have many different types of friends and that true friendship means empathy and kindness. The beautiful photographs of these animals will delight young readers. Adults will enjoy them just as much.
This gorgeous picture book is highly recommended for readers of any age.
A groundhog that doesn’t want to hibernate? Yes, it’s true! Margot is a groundhog that doesn’t want to go to bed. I know many children do not want to go to bed too. They (and their parents) will enjoy reading this book as Margot’s friends suggest ideas to help Margot. But another group of children that this book can help are those that move away from their friends. This can be a very sad time in a child’s life but Margot and her friends have wonderful ideas to keep friends connected! I love the real photographic pictures that is a hallmark of Lieve Snellings’ books! I think children and parents will enjoy the pictures too! A hearty 5 stars for this book!
Time for Margot to Go to Bed is a very cute book with real life photographs of animals out in the wild. The author does a great job of telling a story about the animals with the animals having a conversation about why Margot does not want to go hibernate. The story is great for kids to teach them about friendship, kindness, and thinking of others and their feelings. It is a great teaching tool for problem solving when the animals all try to think of ways to help Margot so she won’t feel so lonely while hibernating for the winter months.
My daughters and I enjoyed reading this story and think kids around ages 3-9 will enjoy reading this story.

MY REVIEW
Time for Margot to Go to Bed is an adorable heartwarming story about friendship ,problem-solving and being different. The girls fell in love with Margot. I love the message it sends about it’s ok to be different. This adorable story is perfect for bedtime reading. It’s not to short , not to long. Margot, the groundhog feels different from her fellow groundhogs because she is sad and not ready to start hibernation, because she’ll miss her friends when she hibernates for the winter. The girls loved all the ideas Margot’s friends came up with to stay in touch with her during the long winter.
The illustrations are wonderful real photographs of animals with funny little details edited in that had the girls laughing. .Many thanks to the Publisher , the Author , and NetGalley for a ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way . If you are interested in this book it can be found on kindle unlimited right now. Not sure how long it will be available on KU though. #TimeforMargottoGotoBed #NetGalley

“A Wonderful Story of Friendship”
I enjoyed everything about this book. The multi talented Lieve Snellings uses nature photography to illustrate a lovely story of friendship. I recommend this story for all ages. It is adorable.
What a great book! I just love the inventiveness of seeing a groundhog with different technologies to try and stay in touch with friends while heading into hibernation. This book uses a charming combination of photos and illustrations that will provoke your children’s imaginations. You can ask your child, “How do you think Margot should stay in touch with her friends?” The book touches on friendship, problem-solving, and nature. It’s really great!
Another wonderfully adorable book about Margot the groundhog and her friends! It’s fall and Margot is sad because it’s almost time for her to hibernate. Margot loves to sleep so she is confused as to why she is so unhappy. Her caring (and oh so cute) friends help her figure out that she is distressed because she will miss all her friends! They then get together to brainstorm ways to cheer her up and ways for Margot to communicate with them when she wakes up to pee and poop during hibernation! The ideas are all so creative and show how much Margot’s friends love her.
Kids will absolutely fall in love with Margot (like I did!). The author/photographer did an amazing job of capturing the most adorable aspects of Margot and her friends and then adding props to make them even more precious and relatable! Parents/teachers/caretakers will appreciate how this story shows what true friendship looks like and that it promotes diversity. This story teaches that being different is not only ok, but that it can be a gift.
I love these books about Margot and her friends. With gorgeous photos, a cute story line, and information about woodchucks, they’ll appeal to children and adults alike. A lovely book that can be read over and over again, and treasured by all the family.
