I’ve spent my entire life being passed over by the Shifter Queen. Which wouldn’t be a big deal, except she’s my mother. Now she’s finally let me come to the foremost academy for big cat shifters, Sabre Woods, I’m hoping to find some independence. If only I wasn’t plagued by my rival for the title of Shifter Heir. All I need to do is get through the first few weeks without accidentally challenging … accidentally challenging someone to the Shifter Trials. That should be easy…right?

Tiger Crown is book one of the Sabre Woods Academy series. It is a paranormal academy with shifters and a slow burn m/f romance.

‘Tiger Crown’ is Laura Greenwood’s first book in her “Sabre Woods Academy” series. As is par for most of Ms. Greenwood’s books, this too is a quick, easy read where we meet Kayla, the Shifter Queen’s daughter, who has literally been told her entire life she would NEVER attend Sabre Woods Academy, which was mostly for big cat shifters, nor would be ever become the Shifter Queen’s heir. In case you hadn’t caught on, her mother seems to head the Mean Girls Club. And then there is Serena. She’s the daughter of her mother’s favorite lady-in-waiting and her mother’s favorite pick to become Heir. Kayla does eventually convince her parents to let her attend the academy but Serena attends as well and manipulates circumstances to bring about a confrontation. There are lots of questions with no explanation right now so I’m anxious to find out in ‘Tiger Thone’, book two if there are more answers. A bit slower moving than what I anticipated but worth another shot.
Life at the Sabre Woods Academy doesn’t start easy for tiger shifter, Kayra. For a school that takes pride in tutoring only elite big cat shifters, it’s no surprise that politics and intrigue follow her around. Our main character is smart and kind but sadly for her, her mother and current shifter queen doesn’t agree. To make matters worse, her rival for the throne is also attending Sabre Woods and isn’t shy about challenging her. As always, Laura Greenwood creates an intricate and immersive world that really feels alive. It’s refreshing to read about a smart and capable main character that’s also acting her age and growing into her role as heir to the shifter throne. I’m writing this review after I read the entire series so I won’t spoil what happens in the next two books, but the story comes to a satisfying end. Definitely worth a read!
Kayra is the daughter of the shifter queen, but has not been named heir, because her mother believes her weak. Both Kayra and Serene, her contender to the position of heir, both attend Sabre Academy and sign up for the Shifter Trials, which decide wh is going to the the heir apparent to the shifter throne.
Kayira starts the story as a soft, untrained and kind of weak young woman, but with the help of her friends and her inner strength she quickly becomes a real contender.
Like most of Ms. Greenwoods books, this is a mix of romance, young adult and fantasy. A nice, entertaining story that is fun to read and entertaining.

Kayra is a white tiger shifter and the daughter of the Shifter Queen. Even though Kayra should be the heir her mother wants it to be Serena because she’s just like the queen. This is an interesting journey that Kayra is on and I loved all the characters we met along the way. After that ending I can’t wait to read the rest of the Sabre Woods Academy series.
Tiger Crown (Sabre Woods Academy #1) by Laura Greenwood is a wonderful story to read. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series that I am absolutely hooked on and can not wait to read the rest. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about cat shifters, urban fantasy and paranormal romance.

Kayra has been belittled and passed over by her mother, the Queen, because of her white tiger shifter fur. The Queen favors a daughter of her favorite maid, Serena, who is conniving and evil. Kayra is finally granted access to the Sabre Woods Academy and finds a few friends right off, who help her navigate her new surroundings. Kayra decides she does want to be the leader and so starts her journey of growing up and taking charge of her life, no matter how others feel about her.
The characters are well detailed with great backstories and attitudes. The storyline has the ups and downs of being in school, with teachers and students you do not like or want to be around. Bullies, like Serena, make life miserable. Loved the types of friends she gains and the close bond they grow. Can not wait for the next book.

Poor Karya a white tiger sifter, she’s the daughter of the Shifter Queen and her own mother overlooks her and wants another to take her birthright. When she finally gets to attend Sabre Academy she finally makes some friends Demi and Magnus, but dealing with Serena is another story.

Kayra Herrity is finally attending Sabre Woods Academy. She’s the Shifter Queen’s daughter and up until her mother refused permission. Kayra isn’t sure why her mother changed her mind but she’s very glad to finally have the opportunity to learn at the prestigious Academy. In spite of being an only child, Kayra hasn’t been named heir. The leadership of the shifters is not a hereditary post and the reigning monarch can choose someone outside the family as heir.
It’s while she’s waiting for orientation to begin that she’s joined by Demi. Demi recognizes her and senses the two of them could be good friends. Then Serena enters the room, her mother’s favorite ladies maid’s daughter and rumored choice for heir. While Kayra really isn’t sure she wants the job, she doesn’t want Serena to have it either. Before reaching that decision she has to manage to get an education without initiating the Shifter Trials.
Physical Education hadn’t been high on Kayra’s to do list and as a result she had no experience with archery, the first of her PE classes. At least she hasn’t had to shift, her mother always disliked when she shifted because her fur is white as opposed to the more prominent orange. As she’s struggling to figure out the gear, she’s approached by a male tiger student.
Marcus becomes another friend Kayra can depend on like Demi. Demi also gifts Kayra with a wishing bracelet, it’s when she’s putting it on that she realizes she truly does want to be the heir. She really wants to make a difference for the shifters of the world. She also finds some of her teachers are more in favor of her than Serena which is refreshing.
Before an assembly Serena approaches her with taunts and then twists Kayra’s words to make it appear as a Shifter Trial challenge.
There’s plenty of underhanded sneaky stuff with Serena, friendships and a possible romance as this book progresses.
This is a fun read with an interesting ending. I am already reading the next book to see what happens next.
What a fun beginning to this series. Kayra Herrity is a beautiful and unusual white tiger shifter. Her mother has done everything to prevent her attendance and has chosen someone else as her heir…
Hmmm what mysteries abound. Why is Kayra different than the other tigers? Why did her mother choose another heir over her. As Kayra struggles with these questions she accidentally let’s the chosen heir Serena trick ger into entering the shifter trials. A fight that forces the true heir to be revealed. Can Kayra’s friend help her stay alive.
As Kayra pprepares for the trials her friends her friends each give Kayra a valuable resource. Demi gave her a bracelet that grants a wish. Magnus taught her to use a bow and arrow to help her fight. Will she be prepared to compete? Can she actually win the competition? And why is her mother treating her as if she isn’t good enough? Come along for the ride you won’t be disappointed! Excellent story and characters.
Kayra has to fight tooth-and-claw to be able to go to Sabre Woods Academy. The daughter of the Lady-in-Waiting to the current Queen is whom the Queen wants as her Heir to the Crown, not her own daughter. Kayra is a white tiger shifter, not the usual orange, so her mother the Queen has always belittled Kayra and kept her from Court functions. During Orientation, another student comes and sits with Kayra and so the friendship between her and Demi begins. Then Kayra sees a male classmate who seems familiar. He turns out to be Magnus, the cousin of Serena, the supposed Heir to the Crown. This short story is fun to read, with plenty of drama and ends in a cliffhanger. Highly recommended.
After being past over for years by her Queen who also happens to be her mother, our heroine finally receives a chance to attend a prestigious shifter academy. Little does she know how much things are going to change for her.

Accepting the Challenge . . .
Kayra Herrity, an unusual white tiger shifter, is at last being permitted to attend Sabre Woods Academy. Although the Queen is her mother, she will not name Kayra as the Shifter Heir and instead seems to prefer Serena. Since Serena also attends the Academy, it doesn’t take long for her to start bullying Kayra. Her goal is to goad Kayra into challenging her in the Shifter Trials and force the identification of the Shifter Heir. Unfortunately, Kayra falls into her “trap”.
Kayra needs to prepare for the trials and her friends will try to help her. Demi gave her a bracelet to grant a wish. Magnus was more practical and taught her to use a bow and arrow which can help her fight. Will she be prepared to compete? Can she actually win the competition? And why is her mother treating her the way she is?
Good first book to series about Kayra, the Shifter Queen’s daughter. She is repeatedly told by her mother that she would never be ‘Shifter Queen’ and is passed over for position of ‘Shifter Heir’ in favor of her mother’s friend’s daughter, Serena. This was a really good first story to series and is filled with insecurities and mysteries that are not totally answered in this book. This leaves the reader waiting for the next book to come out to find out why the Queen is acting the way she is towards her daughter. This was a fun paranormal romance and I am excited to read the next book to find out the answers to the many mysteries that Laura Greeenwood hinted at in this book.

The first book in the Sabre Woods Academy series a well written story that held my interest until the end. Kayra has come to Sabre Woods to try out for Shifter Heir her Mother is the Shifter Queen, but her Mother does not want her to win. Kayra meets Magnus and Demi who become her best friends. There is action, drama, suspense, twists, turns, and a budding romance. I want to read the next book. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A quick read but one that I really do not think misses anything because of the length. Kayla is the daughter of the Shifter Queen but that does not mean that she has had a charmed life. Her mother has always found her to be a disappointment and never hesitated to let her know it. When Kayla gets permission from her mother to go to the Academy she is thrilled and views it as her opportunity to get away from the constant negativity and nastiness from her mom. She was never going to be the most popular girl in school but soon befriends Demi and then Magnus. Her arch-nemesis is Serena, her mother’s choice for successor to the tile. Not everybody is happy with the way the succession to the crown works and before she know it she has accidentally challenged Serena to the Shifter trials. I really enjoyed the characters and the story and look forward to more.

She has no idea why, but Kayra’s mother (the Queen) would rather pass her title onto another female who isn’t even her daughter. Kayra hasn’t given up hope about inheriting the role, and she knows it is going to harder to win what she desires. She has plans to fix what she feels is broken about the system. Will she find friends in the Sabre Woods Academy? Can she prove she is the one to inherit? I enjoyed reading about Kayra’s struggles, and I look forward to what happens next

Review of Tiger Crown, Sabre Woods Academy Book 1
By Laura Greenwood
Great Story, But Really Short
Kayra Herrity is a white tiger shifter who at age 18, has finally been allowed to enroll in the big cat academy, Sabre Woods. Although Kayra is the daughter of the Queen, her mother refuses to name Kayra as the Shifter Heir. Instead, she favors Serena, the daughter of one of her favorite ladies-in-waiting. Serena also attends Sabre Woods and has made a number of cutting remarks against Kayra. Within a relatively short period of time, Serena maneuvers Kayra into issuing a challenge for the Shifter Trials, which will determine the Shifter Heir.
Fortunately, Kayra has made several friends since she started at the academy, being Demi, who had brought her a wish bracelet, and Magnus, who showed her how to shoot a bow and arrow. Kayra secretly made her wish to be the Shifter Heir; the bracelet is supposed to fall off when her wish is granted. Her friends help her study and train for the Trials. Will it be enough for Kayra to win and will her wish be granted to name her as the Shifter Heir?
Ms. Greenwood has written an engaging story outlining Kayra’s ordeals at the academy and highlighting the efforts of her friends to help her. My only complaint is that at 150 pages, the story is really short. I haven’t read the second book yet, but I hope it’s longer than this one. My rating: 3.5 stars.

Kayra wants to be the Shifter Heir but for some reason her mother the Queen does not want her in that position. Kayra decides to get away from her mother and attend the Sabre Academy. She meets friends and has to go through the Shifter Trials. A short story that is easy to read and a page turner.

A wonderful story with well defined characters in a fast moving pace. Kayla is finally getting to go to the Sabre Academy. She deals with a lot of inner turmoil that was put in place by her mother. It is a unique story with the paranormal feel with the shifters. I can’t wait to read the second installment.
