Can a Shipbuilder and a Doctor find their ever after?
Caleb Garrett has it bad for the lady Doc Elinor Macy Dallas when he looks at her he is loss he sees her and what goes through his mind is that she is “smart as a whip, capable, tough little thing.” Even with not being the time woman are really accepted as doctors Caleb is surrounded by a strong mind woman who believes in the suffrage movement. Macy is attracted to Caleb too. These two run around each other until they both get caught by each other. Yes, there are some serious matters that take place and decisions to be made but it was beautifully written and this lovely book was a joy to read. I highly recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Caleb does not like Christmas. But his thoughts may change if Macy, the town female doctor can convince him he is good enough for her. Wonderful, spicy love story.
Wow!
This is definitely the best of the three in this series. It is full of passion as Elinor Macy Dallas, a physician and Caleb Garrett, Boat Builder, fall hopelessly in love.
The length is just right, the story flows and the narration is really good.
I enjoyed it so much and am very happy to recommend it.
I requested and listened to a free copy of the audiobook version (and also have an ebook copy) and my voluntary and unbiased review is recorded above.
“Like a sucker punch, love had the power to bring you to your knees when you weren’t looking”
And now it’s the middle brother’s turn. Caleb, the hot head. Caleb, the artist. Caleb the loner. Caleb’s long term “relationship” with Christa ended when he proposed. Alone, but was he lonely? And what was it about Dr. Elinor Macy Dallas that seemed to get under his skin?
Macy came to Point Island as a favor to Savannah Garrett, taking on a town still believing women couldn’t do anything more than keep house. She kissed Caleb. Would it go farther? Trust and commitment were hard for both of them, but there are cracks in those stubborn walls…somewhere.
In this novella both Cale and Macy have to storm the barriers each has built out of fear to find the love awaiting both of them in each others arms.
I was overjoyed to see that Tracy Sumner had finally tackled the incomparable Caleb. It had to be satisfying to deal with the angry “problem child” and finish out the trilogy. For a series advertised as “feisty Southern suffragettes in the Gilded Age” sometimes it felt like “let’s tame the Garretts”. That’s certainly NOT a bad thing. This series is addicting and I can barely contain my glee that I have more on the shelf. Highly recommended 5/5
[disclaimer: I received this book from the author and voluntarily read and reviewed
As a fan of Tides of Love and Tides of Passion, I have been begging the author to finally get a chance to hear Caleb’s story. The bull in the china shop of this family. And here it is! In Tides of Desire, we are treated to a return of the Garrett grays, the color of the eyes that unites these three brothers, each a uniquely distinct character unto himself. In this stand-alone novella, we have the chance to return to Pilot Isle, the slap of the waves on the dock, the snap of a sail in the salted wind, and the warehouse where Caleb plies his trade. Nothing more masculine, I might add, than a shipbuilder. A masterful storyteller, the author simply delights in reminding us of all we already know about this small town. I knew it was a novella, but I didn’t want it to end. Now I’ll have to go back and read the first two books in the series all over again.
Book three in the Garrett Brothers series a well written Christmas story that had me smiling as I read. This is Dr. Elinor Macy Dallas and boatbuilder Caleb Garrett’s story , this is a series I will be reading again. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
It was easy to be pulled into the story about Macy and Caleb, two troubled souls in search of love. I enjoyed seeing characters from previous novels surface again. I also found it hard to put the book down until I saw how things finally played out in the end.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was a sweet and sexy, read in one sitting, historical holiday novella. I adored it. Macy is a doctor and having a hard time building a practice and Caleb is a shipbuilder. They are attracted to each other but both afraid to take a leap of faith. When they do, it is glorious. I enjoyed this holiday treat and am giving it the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR and Enjoy!
“All I remember is being utterly alone in the world before you.”
Cute but steamy and straight to the point.
The thing about short stories is that there is a lot of telling vs the showing but I feel that this one did a decent job. I liked that unlike his brothers Caleb didn’t shy from his feelings.
What would have added to the story was a prologue of that encounter in the cloakroom. This was a turning point moment for both characters and we are just told it happened.
Also, I don’t know if the author noticed but all the female characters had a falling out with their families. Specially with the father.
A woman Doctor is an oddity. She is a devoted spinster until a shipbuilder steals a kiss.
He can’t be in love can he? He has too much family baggage and way too much responsibility. And yet he can not forget that passionate kiss. He has a temper and creates havoc and she is mild and fixes hurt people. Opposites attract but they repel too. This is a great book about the conflict created. Read it. You will be glad you did.
This story follows the last available Garrett brother Caleb in the small town on the coast. In the prior two stories, Ms. Sumner delightfully introduced us to the baby brother Noah and his love Elle, and then to the oldest brother Zach and his love Savanna. Now Caleb find his love in Macy in a charming holiday story.
This is a steamy Christmas treat that brings us back to peek in on the other couples as well as see how Caleb has been doing. The writing is excellent and the details of a story set at the turn of the century in a small coastal town continues to delight. The characters are vibrant and real. The warm feelings of family and love help to make this a fantastic read.
I highly recommend this book
A sweet and steamy love story, Tides of Desire is the third book in the Seaswept Seduction Series and focuses on Caleb and Macy. Macy, a doctor who is new to town, is working hard to build her career and reputation during a time when female doctors aren’t widely accepted. Strong, capable, and sure, Macy knows Caleb is the one for her. She just has to convince him that she’s perfect for him.
A gifted boat-builder and artist, Caleb is the middle of the Garrett brothers. Though he is drawn to Macy from the moment she kissed him, he doesn’t feel like he is good enough for her. He continually fails to see his own worth. He’s known for being a hothead, and he often uses his fists to solve his problems. Caleb is also loyal, loving, and self-sacrificing, constantly putting other’s needs and happiness ahead of his own. He doesn’t realize what an asset he is to his family and community. He also doesn’t realize how deeply he is falling in love with Macy.
This is a quick and lovely story, and the romance progresses rapidly. Macy and Caleb form a fast connection, and their passion for each other is explosive. Though the story is shorter than the other two in the series, the characters are dynamically developed, and the love story is as wonderful as the others. I love how Caleb and Macy confide in and trust each other from the start. They share things with each other that they never shared with anyone else, which highlights how connected they feel. Their romance definitely has love-at-first-sight vibes, and it is fantastic!!!
I love historical romances with men who support and fight for female empowerment, and this idea is at the center of the series. Like his brothers are with their spouses, Caleb wholeheartedly supports Macy’s career and personal goals. I love how determined Caleb is to help Macy achieve. The Garrett brothers lives have been irrevocably changed by three independent and fierce social reformers, and the men all know they are better for it. It says so much about their characters and the deep love each has for the woman he loves. Garrett brothers for the win!!
I really enjoyed this story and the series as a whole. The themes of love, forgiveness, the bonds of family, and more make for a heart-warming read, and the romance is spectacular! Thanks so much to Tracy Sumner for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
“Tides of Love” is book 1 in the Garrett Brothers Trilogy, and I enjoyed it so much that I read the other 2 in quick succession. Book 2 is “Tides of Passion” and book 3 is “Tides of Desire.” You can definitely enjoy each as a stand-alone, but the characters are so good that I urge you to read them all, like I did. This series is set at the end of the 19th century, a dynamic time period when women were struggling for the right to vote and to be treated as equals to men. The stories take place in a small island town in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The author brings it to life so clearly you can practically smell the wharf and feel the breeze that sometimes blows in off the ocean.
“Tides of Desire” concludes the Garrett Brothers Trilogy with the story of Caleb, the third of the brothers. Everybody perceives him as the rough and tumble brother who’s always good for a drunken scuffle, yet he is also a designer and builder of various types of boats. When Macy, a beautiful young woman who is also a medical doctor, comes to town, Caleb is desperately attracted to her personality as well as her appearance. She is just as attracted to him, which shocks him because he doesn’t think he’s worthy of her at all. They each see the other clearly, without any preconceived notions. This book is a bit shorter than the other 2 but just as excellent and full of emotion. I thought HEA was poignant and terrific.
Tides of Desire is Book 3 of a series, but can be read as a stand alone. This is my first Tracy Sumner book, but I went straight from this one to book one and two! I also continued to some of her other books because of her writing skills and the ability to make the characters to be believable.
In this book Macy was a female doctor during a time when people didn’t believe women shouldn’t be doing anything except staying home and having babies! Trying to get people to trust her to treat them was going to be an uphill battle!
Caleb Garret was a prominent shipbuilder and he felt an instant attraction to Macy, but as a result of childhood insecurities he didn’t feel he measured up to a college educated refined lady!
So, what a dance Macy was going to have to fight ! The people to trust her and convince Caleb that they could be a couple!
This book is truly more than just romance it’s about equality of people and so much more!
This is a wonderful read!
I would definitely recommend this book!
I received an advanced copy for free and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions!
I have the other books in the series to read, and I know this is #3, but I thought I’d read it first because it has a Christmas theme and I thought it might be nice to get into the Christmas spirit. I’m not even sure what to say about this book because every book from Tracy Sumner is amazing. She creates characters who are real, relatable, and usually likable, and the plots tend to have enough tension to push the story forward without causing undue stress. They’re believable too. I never finish one of her books by shaking my head and thinking, that’s ridiculous.
One of the things I liked about this book was the fact that Caleb’s passion/profession as a shipbuilder and Macy’s passion/profession as a doctor were reflected in the writing of the entire story. For example, Macy noticed Caleb’s drawings and commented on them. “Caleb tapped the sketch in two places, and Macy tracked the movement like she’d stitched her gaze to his finger.” Caleb kissed her, then “drew a breath as if he wanted to take her into his lungs like oxygen.” The first time they explore their physical attraction for one another is described in vaguely scientific terms, though really, that’s only in terms of the words used while the overall effect is actually intense: “She blinked, searching for time and place. Her body submerged, engrossed, liquified. Like beakers over a gas flame, the contents bubbling, blazing.” And finally, as she waits for him, nee invites him to come closer, “Her arms rose, beckoning. Like she waited in harbor for him to sail back to shore.”
There are other fun descriptions, like Macy’s house which is “the color of dirty sock,” and Caleb’s eyes as “piercing gunmetal in a slice of moonlight skipping off the sea.” (Another reference to the sea while describing Caleb.) And this scene description made me laugh because it was so droll: “He’d (Caleb) fallen asleep in Zach’s office yesterday and received a blistering brotherly lecture about burning the candle at both ends. Then Noah had to jump in and tell them where the term came from, which was so dull he’d gone right back to sleep.”
By the end of this book, I loved Caleb and Macy, and even though Noah, Elle, Zach, and Savannah made appearances, I didn’t feel much for them. I’m sure when I read their stories, I will also love those characters. I can’t wait to dive into them.
Another delightful story written by Tracy Sumner, filled with wonderful characters, steamy passions and the love of family.
Macy is a newly minted doctor in a time when women doctors were frowned upon in a man’s world and although struggling to get her little practice going, she’s determined to succeed. She knows what she wants….she wants Caleb! If only he would stop believing that he wasn’t good enough for her!!
Caleb is a gifted boatbuilder and has wanted Macy ever since she stole a kiss from him in a cloakroom!! When he finds himself meeting her again, passions flare but he knows he will have to let her go because she deserves better than him.
With the help of his family, Macy will do anything to convince Caleb they are meant to be together.
Guide us to the perfect light.
Macy Dallas is a dedicated doctor who is afraid to fall In love after a traumatic encounter with her uncle in youth. Macy has fallen in love with Boatbuilder Caleb Garret despite this. Caleb is battling his own demons being a Garret brother. Macy kisses Caleb in a closet on Christmas leaving Caleb surprised and confused. Caleb is in awe of Macy as well as in love with her. He desires Macy and wants to make her his, however, he knows she deserves a better a man. That he is not the one she really wants and needs to make a better future for herself. Will Caleb and Macy admit to their feelings after giving in to the passions. I loved this short story. It was short, fast, and passionate and tangy like a slice of rum cake. Lol. I think I’ve read this series (the Garret Brothers) backward. Lol. I can’t wait to go back to read about Caleb and Macy. Lol. The passion was steamy and loving. The characters are interesting. And three dimensional. They love, hate. laugh, cry. I love that Caleb is a huge muscular man with a heart of gold. He is a good man who just doesn’t want to get his heart broken again. I love this author. I just wanted to add that I’ve reread. ”The lady is trouble.” and will buy the book when I’m finished. I just love that book. Lol. I received this an ARC copy of this book from Booksirens.com and the author in exchange for an honest review.
An enjoyable story, shorter than the other two books in the series but just as good. Good chemistry between Macy and Caleb and a great happily ever after. A nice touch to set it at Christmas.
Caleb is a shipbuilder, the middle Garrett boy. Macy is a doctor, only child. Her father wanted a son. She was a disappointment to her father all her life. Macy moved to.the small town in North Carolina , hopefully to start a practice. There she met Caleb, both are strong people. Their chemistry is electrical, when they first kissed. It was interesting how the author incorporated the character from the previous books into this one.
I enjoyed listening to this story narrated by Kimberly Wetherall.
