A Welsh Methodist minister’s daughter changes her life when she appeals for help to Nicholas Davies, a half-Gypsy earl…
They called him the Demon Earl. They said he could do anything. Son of a rogue and a Gypsy, … Nicholas Davies, a half-Gypsy earl…
They called him the Demon Earl. They said he could do anything. Son of a rogue and a Gypsy, Nicholas Davies was a notorious rake until a shattering betrayal left him alone and embittered in the Welsh countryside.
Desperation drives quiet schoolteacher Clare Morgan to ask the Demon Earl to help save her village. Unwilling to involve himself in the problems of others, Nicholas sets an impossible price on his aid–only if Clare agrees to live with him for three months, letting the world think the worst, will he intervene.
Furiously Clare accepts his outrageous challenge, and the two are swept into an intoxicating Regency world of danger and desire. As allies, Clare and Nicholas fight to save her community. As adversaries, they explore the hazardous terrain of power and sensuality. And as lovers, they surrender to a passion that threatens the very foundations of their lives.
“An extraordinary romance from an extraordinary author.” – Romantic Times
I just love her characters. They speak to me
Mary Jo Putney is a must read author!
Excellent book. Reread it every couple of years
I absolutely loved this book
I loved the friendship that built between the two main characters.. It was wonderful to see something other than misunderstandings and immature antics develops between the romantic interests.
I liked the characters in this one and the way that the heroine seemed to save herself along with everyone else. It was a feel good read.
Good character development.
It’s always a delight to have historically accurate references added to the story line – in this case slate mining, billiard tables and cue sticks, plus all that miners endure. Clare’s struggles with inner faith and temptation and her own nature are beautifully written, while Nicholas and his brotherhood of fallen angels explore friendship and …
first in a series. all are exceptional
Great read
This is a book whose story will stay with you and inspire you to read it again in the future. This book is a treasure as well as a pleasure to read. I highly recommend it.
Overall, this series is too sensual for me, but this is one of the few I enjoy rereading (while skipping some scenes). There are some great emotionally-charged scenes, attempted murder, and an inside look at coal-mining practices. The hero is half-gypsy (Rom) and there are some interesting tidbits about their nomadic lifestyle. The characters are …
Absolutely brilliant! Well thought out, plotted and written!
I loved ever second of this most satisfying story about a half-gypsy, Nicholas who becomes a Marquis and the love of his life, Clare (if only he would admit it).
Mary Jo Putney is a new writer for me and I will certainly be reading more of what she writes.
I am really happy to recommend …
