A Welsh Methodist minister’s daughter changes her life when she appeals for help to Nicholas Davies, a half-Gypsy earl…
They called him the Demon Earl. They said he could do anything. Son of a rogue and a Gypsy, … Nicholas Davies, a half-Gypsy earl…
They called him the Demon Earl. They said he could do anything. Son of a rogue and a Gypsy, Nicholas Davies was a notorious rake until a shattering betrayal left him alone and embittered in the Welsh countryside.
Desperation drives quiet schoolteacher Clare Morgan to ask the Demon Earl to help save her village. Unwilling to involve himself in the problems of others, Nicholas sets an impossible price on his aid–only if Clare agrees to live with him for three months, letting the world think the worst, will he intervene.
Furiously Clare accepts his outrageous challenge, and the two are swept into an intoxicating Regency world of danger and desire. As allies, Clare and Nicholas fight to save her community. As adversaries, they explore the hazardous terrain of power and sensuality. And as lovers, they surrender to a passion that threatens the very foundations of their lives.
“An extraordinary romance from an extraordinary author.” – Romantic Times
Very well written. Could not put book down. Loved it.
Thunder and Roses is a great Historical and Romantic read. I enjoyed all of the characters and how each of the Fallen Angels came to be their characters. I appreciate an author who shares history about the time in which they are writing. I am looking forward to reading Dancing on the Wind soon.
Excellent book! Page turner, original, beautifully written!!! Loved it!!

Clare and Nicholas meet when the schoolmistress marches inti Aberdare manor and demands that the Lord Nicholas address the dangers of the coal mine and take better care of his people. Good plot twist with unusual characters. The romantic duel has a long and enjoyable buildup. I would look for more of this series.

Interesting story
A very enjoyable read. I’m going to read the next one
I absolutely loved this book for a number of reasons!
First of all, let me say that the book grabbed my attention on the first page and I couldn’t put it down – I even forewent sleep for this book!
I gave the book five stars because I loved that the characters conversed; they were open, frank, honest, witty, damaged, and accepting. (I …
Great read!
I enjoyed reading this story. You could actually see the events taking place. The characters and how they interacted was amazingly told.
Kept you attention
Love love love Mary Jo Putney! This is the second time I’ve read this book. Years ago I read most of her books and recommend to read as many of her books as possible. Her characters are deeper, more complex and truly lovable. Female characters are strong but compassionate. Storylines are timeless. In my mind truly classics.
Clare makes a bet with the devil, a wealthy property owner in her village.
The village is in need since there are no jobs very little food or money.
Nicholas takes the bet to heart an attempts to make a difference. (Whips, guns, and explosions are only a few of the fast pace events Nicholas and Clare will live through.
Loved this book!
Good dialogue but descriptions were overly repetitive and premise a little far-fetched.
Another wonderful book by Mary Jo Putney. A serious page turner.
