Once things start falling apart around Polly Giller, chaos takes over and all she can do is hold on for the ride.
Sylvie Donovan has finished school and things are supposed to be rainbows and unicorns. Not in Bellingwood. Her oldest son, Jason, has just started high school and isn’t handling the transition well. Within the span of three weeks, his behavior has escalated to the point that she … that she doesn’t know what to do next. Her ex-husband shows up and the mere sight of him drains her confidence, returning her to the days when she lived with an abuser.
Polly’s little family is dealing with bedlam of its own. Jessie Locke is twenty years old and no matter how badly she wants to be an adult, she’s making horrible decisions. When she runs away, Polly has to deal with a furious husband and a devastated little girl. Poor Rebecca Heater’s life is already in disarray as she watches her mother’s health deteriorate.
The one constant through all of the storms that come is the friendships each person has developed along the way. Friends show up when you least expect it and are there when you need them. If there’s one thing Polly knows and Sylvie is learning, it’s that when you need strength to stand against the horrors of the world, you can find it in those who love you.

I love all these stories and can’t wait for the next one
a good series altho a little unrealistic
Love this series. THey are like a grown up modern version of of Anne of green gables crossed with Trixie belden Imysteries
Excellently written and highly entertaining. I would have easily given it a 5 except one of the middle chapters was at the end rather than where it belonged, and I didn’t know how to fix it. I’ll be reading more of the series, but probably in print rather than ebook.
An interesting mystery, lots of interesting characters, but probably better if read in order that the series was written.
Fairly quick read.
The characters are wonderful. Action packed and full of twists and turns but never felt artificial. It was a delight to read.
Love this series!
This book has people you care about– people of heart and integrity who care about their community and grow in the process of the book– and also a humor and light about it. Would recommend!
I’m reading the series and I look forward to each book. Small town USA with a twist.
Love the whole series!
I love this series
I loved it and all of the others ..and buying all of them also.
This is book number 8 (I think) of a series. Perhaps if I had read all (or at least most) of the series, I would have had a different opinion. This was the rare book that I couldn’t waste any more time in waiting until things made sense or were interesting; I just gave up on reading it. There are tons of named characters, but little if any clue about who they are and how they are related to the person who presumably is the main character. By the time I actually got to the (I guess) main event–the discovery of a body by the character who apparently often finds dead bodies–my head was spinning both from confusion and boredom. Sorry if this review offends any who love this series!
Loving the entire series, waiting for the next one.
Fairly well-written for the most part but, as another reviewer commented, a little smarmy. Everyone in town LOVES the protagonist and she ALWAYS has the perfect advice for everyone. She’s brave, honest, and takes in stray people like she runs an orphanage. Along the way, there are a couple of murders but they’re hardly mentioned. I didn’t hate it and I enjoyed some of the characters but the heroine was way too good to be believed.
I’ve read every book in this series enjoyed each
wish I had read the earlier ones and will look for the later ones in the series
This book had no real beginning or rational connection between the characters
I am hooked on this series!
