MayaMy post-college plans include vlogging, drinking around the world, and following my brother as he races in every Grand Prix. I didn’t anticipate Noah Slade, Formula 1’s World Champion and resident bad boy—a damaged prince who acts like a villain. His vulnerability breaks me down and holds me captive, ruining me for any man who dares to come after him. There’s no point asking for my heart back … There’s no point asking for my heart back because he’ll shatter it before I have the chance.
Noah
Fans call me the American Prince, the only son of a Formula 1 legend. I live for standing on Prix podiums while crowds chant my name, champagne drips down my face, and adrenaline rushes through my veins. Women want to screw me while men want to be me. But no one challenges me more than Maya Alatorre, the sister of my rival and new teammate. We’re a ticking time bomb, about one wrong move away from exploding. But with her, I want to trip the wire, detonating together in passion and pain. Because, in the end, all’s fair in lust and war.
Throttled is a complete standalone and a part of the Dirty Air series
more
„Throttled” is a debut written by Lauren Asher and also the first book in „Dirty Air Series”. This is also a really great book written in Formula One reality.
Maya graduated and she wants to do something in her life. Her brother joined to Bandini Team and he proposed her that she can go with him on the races and do a videos on vlog about life in Formula One. She agreed and one day on the meeting, she met Noah – her brother’s teammate in Bandini Team and also the bigest dick in the world.
For the first met Noah Slade was enchanted about Maya. When he found out that she is Santiago’s Alatorre sister, he wanted her more than everything else. And he wants win with her brother on the track.
Chemistry and lust between Noah and Maya are so strong! I was in this book from the first pages. One, because I love th F1 world.
Two, Lauren Asher knows, how to write the book in F1 reality.
Three, (of course) Noah is so HOT bad boy!
Is „Throttled” really a debut novel? Because while I was reading it, I didn’t see that. Lauren Asher wrote her book like advanced writer and I have no plea to this book!
It is a perfect story with original plot and fantastic heroes!
Lauren Asher wrote about Noah’s and Maya’s feelings gradually. We have here a shy friendship, hide love and forbidden sneaking around. Every of these feelings has the time to grown up and this is so much good!
I am waiting for next book in series „Collide” which will be in May this year. I am also angry, that I had this book too much time on my TBR. Why I didn’t read „Throttled” faster? I am a dumbass.
„Throttled” is your must read if you like the fastest cars in the world and slow burn romance in this reality. This is a really awesome debut and I can’t wait for more!
I love how this book gives you a fair idea of the F1 races and their hectic schedules, their up top parties, the whole deal. I love the chemistry between Noah and Maya. Noah knew she was off limits being his racing partner’s little sister but he went for it and damn! IT WAS NOT DISAPPOINTING. The extended epilogue of this book was my favorite part. I love how their relationship develops through the book, not only showing them as hot fuck buddies but also being equally caring and loving towards each other. The sex scenes are steamy, don’t disappoint throughout the book.
This book is a solid 5 on 5.
My first ever book by Lauren Asher and I can’t wait to read more.
As an F1 fan, I can’t tell you how much I appreciated this book. I started getting into F1 in 2020, thanks to “Drive To Survive“ on Netflix, you should definitely watch it. Ever since finishing that series and starting to actually watch F1 races, I’ve been dying to read an F1 related romance. I searched far and wide and at first couldn’t find anything. But thanks to Brit from My Little Book Nook and Jos from Sportschicreads, I finally found what I was looking for. It is very apparent from the beginning that Asher is very knowledgeable on F1! Since I don’t typically read Sports romance or watch sports in general, I loved understanding and reading about something sports related that I actually understood. I especially loved seeing all of the behind the scenes action and how the book wasn’t totally focused around F1. Maya and Noah really captured my heart. From the beginning I thought these two were pretty unlikely to get together and didn’t really see the spark at first, but the deeper I got into the book, the more apparent their attraction and want for one another really came to life. This was definitely a slow burn and made me work and want to read until the end to see what happened. At times I did think it was a little cheesy and in some parts fell flat for me. I definitely think it could’ve been developed a little bit more, but overall, I enjoyed the story and I thought this was a great debut novel and can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
This book kick starts the amazing Dirty Air series. After reading countless football, hockey and other sports romance books, this book was a breath of fresh air with it being based around Formula 1 racing. As someone who has no knowledge about racing whatsoever, I found this book so exciting.
The story revolves around Noah Slade, a F1 racer, one of the best in his field and his rival’s sister, Maya Alatorrez. Sparks fly when Maya joins her brother on his Grand Prix season. The undeniable chemistry, the sexual tension and the forbidden aspect adds fuel to Maya and Noah’s story.
Noah Slade is definitely my new book boyfriend. That guy killed me with his on point sarcasm and fiery charm. He was everything you’d want in a hero, cocky, passionate and oh so charming.
Maya was a decent enough character. I didn’t find her too compelling. While she was a fun heroine, I didn’t find any depth to her character.
All the other characters were so damn interesting, I can’t wait to dive into their stories.
After reading The Fine Print by Lauren Asher Lauren Asher I felt really inclined to read more of hers. So I decided to start with her debut novel “Throttled”.
This book checks all my boxes when it comes to a great romance:
A hot, broken, troubled hero:
A smart heroine, who know what she wants:
Witty banter:
Amazing settings:
Steamy scenes:
Swoon-worthy moments:
Sports romance is definitely one of my favorite tropes and in this story the mc is a F1 driver who is very successful in the sport but in his personal life acts like a total jerk. That until he meets Maya, the sister of his biggest rival in the team.
Maya enters Noah’s life like a breath of fresh air and when he finally realizes that she’s changing him, things get complicated and they need to figure out if what they have is worth risking so much.
I enjoyed this book very much as it’s not that dense even though Noah goes through some trouble which made my heart ache for him.
The story is also fast paced and so romantic! I especially loved the ending and the surprise reserved for when you finish the book is so damn good!
Throttled is book #1 in the Dirty Air series and I’m definitely grabbing the next ones so I can get to meet the other drivers and their stories.
Great read!
“Throttled” by Lauren Asher has romance, conflict, humour, and so much more that brings Noah and Maya’s story to life.
Maya is courageous, brave, and funny. She is an inspiring character and someone to who I can relate a lot.
Noah is cocky, handsome, and a badass on the F1 track. Although he carries a bad boy reputation, Maya sees that there’s more to him than what the media says.
I did not know much about F1 coming into this book, but the consistency and accuracy were brilliant!
3.5
I’ve never read something about F1 racers before(though I’ve watched shows about them before) However, Throttled, it does so much justice to the F1 life, I’m in absolute awe of how this is Lauren’s debut novel. It’s written so amazingly, I think I just about fell in love with the writing when I first saw a Harry Potter refrence. The humour, the witty banter, the emotional bonding and especially the friendships are everything in this book.
Noah appears to be quite arrogant at first, and I would’ve hated him if it wasn’t for the little snippets that hinted at him being more than just a ‘badboy’ who also happens to be three (oops four) times World Champion. Maya is quite a funny, bubbly person who knows how to stand her ground, and while I loved how she fought for what she wanted with Noah, her initial streak of immaturity frustrated me to no end.
Noah and Maya have a soulsearing connection that’s so heartwarming to read about, especially the way the book ended, I feel like it makes all the times I wanted to throw my phone away worth it.
I didn’t particularly enjoy how meddling their friends were, but I understand why it was needed for world building as this is the first book in a series of standalones. All in all I do adore all of the characters, and I’m really excited about reading their stories. Safe to say I’ll be reading a lot from Lauren in the near future.
Hot Dang is all I can say about this book by Lauren Asher. Have to say Lauren has just made me love Formula 1 racing more just by reading about Noah Slade. I loved that here is a man who has had his whole life circled around racing that when a woman like Maya makes him question his whole life he has no idea how to react. The world see’s him as a playboy bachelor yet for the first time in his life he is well wondering if there is a life without racing. Not only do we see them form a relationship but man the adrenaline, speed and oh the competitiveness in this book was well adventurous. This is the first time I have read by Lauren Asher and definitely won’t be the last just by meeting these characters makes you wonder what else we have coming by this talented author.
“I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.”
5 / 5
It felt super refreshing changing things up a bit and read a racing romance, my first one ever! I was surprised to hear ‘Throttled’ was Lauren’s debut novel. It was all very well written in my opinion, and I was able to enjoy every second of it and feel like I was actually there!
This story follows Maya Alatorre and Noah Slade. After graduation, Maya decides to join her brother Santiago, who is an F1 racer, around the world. She’s determined to find her purpose while having fun traveling. She’s sweet but sassy and feisty, something that I personally adored!
Noah is cocky, handsome, talented, and funny but he carries the reputation of sleeping with a lot of women, something that doesn’t exactly appeal to Maya, despite his looks. He’s far more complex than it seems in the beginning and once you get to know more of him, you start understanding his attitude.
Their attraction to each other is unquestionable and there’s so much chemistry flying around I barely could contain myself while reading. It took them a while to get together since Noah and Maya’s brother were both rivals and teammates. They both tried to keep their hands away but, of course, that didn’t last long.
I loved seeing Maya’s interactions with her family, especially with Santi. She grew up with love surrounding her, the total opposite of what happened to Noah. She was the one that took his walls down and showed him what it felt like, what it was missing in his life! Noah’s development throughout the story made me love him even more like… can I have one?
In this book, we got to see bits of side characters like Liam and Sophie (the girls’ friendship was honestly so cute) and I’m so excited to start reading ‘Collided’! Their connection was palpable through the screen and I need to know more! I was also very happy to discover that Santi and Jax are both getting a book!
Since the whole racing thing was new to me, let me just say – or write – that I became a fan! Not that I didn’t like it before but I’m one step closer to start watching races now ahah. Every detail caught my attention and it was all very enchanting. 100% recommend this story!
Throttled is my first Lauren Asher book, and it was an amazing introduction to her. Throttled was an amazing, forbidden racing romance.
Noah and Maya’s story is so much more than I thought it would be. These two are hot AF, and they are real. Their journey is messing and forbidden and left me feeling all kinds of things. Their chemistry and attraction jumps off the pages.
Throttled is my first F1 racing book, but Noah has created a need in me to find more. When the bad boy falls, is my favorite thing. The playboy who finds the woman who brings him to his knees. Noah’s journey in itself is hard and painful to read. Asher does such beautiful things with this book.
Throttled had me hooked. Noah and Maya’s book is the perfect read. It was real, emotional, captivating, and well-written. The plot is perfect. Asher left me needing more and I cannot wait to see what she delivers with book two! I’m completely hooked in the Dirty Air wold.
This is the author’s first book and I honestly say I loved it, the forbidden romance combined with F1 sport was perfect. Maya and Noah’s story is phenomenal, I couldn’t put it down, all the characters in the book where great and so I can’t wait for the next installment. A must read for all F1 fans.
Throttled is the debut novel by Lauren Asher and she hits the ground running or should I say racing in this instance. A story based in the F1 racing world where egos are huge and the passion is high. Noah and Maya’s story is a slow burn romance that is full of emotion, heat and banter. These two have a connection that won’t be ignored and you will feel right from the start. I loved that these two talked out their issues and didn’t have my anxiety requiring medication to keep reading. Throttled took me on a ride that hugged the curves, sped through the straights and had me heading for the finish line with these two with a huge smile on my face.
Beta and ARC review
Different, fresh and real!!! That’s one of the things I adored about this story..and besides who doesn’t love HOT AF F1 racers?!
This book was so different from others I’ve read. I usually can’t find books with racing being the scenario where the story takes place. The author took a chance with this and totally nailed it.
Maya and Noah’s attraction was hot and you could see that from the very first moment they’ve met. I loved her personality and the way she struggles to find her way in this World and how she managed to accomplished what she wanted to do for her life. I also loved the way she interacted with her family and that warm way of connecting that only Spanish families have, it was a nice detail I don’t get to see much in books, also, Santi is a side character that I can’t wait to know more about, he was so easy to like.
Noah, on the other hand, he was such a douche at the beginning, although eventually, we get to know why all the suffering and that facade and charming broody boy attitude he was to show. He has to be strong. Show no weakness. Only winning. Those are his walls, the ones Maya, eventually starts knocking down and we get to see more of the real him. The one she loves.
Entertaining and informative, my first book with an in-depth look into the world of F1 racing. I found that the book really took us into their world, including the nerves of racing days, the tedium of constant interviews and public relations stuff, the gym time, and also, the parties, before and after races. The competition is fierce, even within the same team, the stakes are high, and a minuscule error in spacing between cars can end up your dreams and your car.
Noah Slade comes from racing loyalty, his father is Nicholas Slade, a legend in F1 circles. Noah was born into this world and is already a World Champion thrice over; he’s also thirty years old and subject to the verbal abuse of his father, who lives his life through his son’s. He’s a horrible man, and he stays current by investing in the Bandini race team, thereby forcing his presence on his son.
Santiago Alatorre, an up and coming young racer, joins the Bandini team, and brings his younger sister Maya along as company. These siblings are very close together and supportive of each other. Noah feels competitiveness against Santi and lust for Maya, a dangerous combination in this world where you need your nerves and your wits about you at all times. He also feels jealous because he sees them together and it makes him feel lonely.
The story is fun and entertaining once it really starts to get going. Initially there’s a lot of wordiness, presenting the characters and their situations. It dragged a little, but once the action got going it got interesting and riveting. There’s a slow burn attraction between Maya and Noah, but both have pressures on them. Maya is starting a Vlog, trying to find her place in the adult world, and Noah has to cater to his father’s demands to keep on first position at all times. Noah is accustomed to dickish behavior as a defensive mechanism, but it doesn’t work with Maya, who won’t have anything to do with him. She leads him on a merry chase that ends up being his salvation.
I loved the story once the excessive wordiness in the first part was over and we got into the action of the book. I did feel that the essence of the book felt a little juvenile. I was astounded to read that Noah was thirty years old and still subjected to the ire of his father. He was an abused child but he’s now a fully grown man, with money and fame. He could easily kiss his father’s butt goodbye. This part was not credible for me, but we do need to have an enemy to hate. Young Maya was entertaining, a Spanish beauty, with fire and sass, perfect to bring Noah to his knees. And Santiago was so cute, enjoying his new wealth and fame, hooking up with groupies but relying on his little sister for company and support. She was his lucky charm and they were so cute together.
Endearing and delightful, it was a fun read.
Throttled is a the first novel in a new companion novel series by debut author Lauren Asher, it follows Maya and Noahs story.
Maya decides to join her brother while he competes in the grand prix F1 racing tournament where she can kick start her new vlogging endeavour while also traveling the world. There she meets cocky, handsome and super confident Noah who has a reputation for being a ladies man and happens to a not so great past/interactions with Maya’s brother and is also his team mate in racing.
The story took me a while to get into but once i hit the half way mark i really startes to enjoy it and Maya and Noahs chemistry was insanely hot and super steamy. I loved Noahs character he was more complex than meets the eye and Maya was sweet but also feirce and feisty. I enjoyed how the author took the time to really build the racing side of the story so you really got a feel for the sport as well as the couple’s story.
This story was well written and I cant wait to read more books in this series
Taking The Checkered Flag
An impressive debut novel by the author. This enemies-to-lovers, slow burn romance took the checkered flag. Bad boy Noah will make you fall in love!
He’s the bad boy on the F1 race circuit. Completely unstoppable. She’s young, a little naive but eager to make her own way. Falling for the enemy was never part of the plan.
Maya has joined her brother while he travels the world racing for Team Bandini. She is going to work on starting and growing a travel vlog, while supporting her brother’s racing career. She’s been warned off all the bad boy racers. Their sole focus is women, booze and racing. She’s a good girl. A relationship girl. But she never imagined that the ultimate bad boy of racing, Noah Slade, would be so irresistible.
Noah spends his time with fast women and even faster cars. That’s all he has ever had time for. However, once he meets Maya, that sole focus shifts. He knows that she is off-limits, but it does not stifle their mutual attraction. And after spending more and more time together, resisting is pointless.
The culmination of all that pent up tension is sizzling! These two are HOT! Maya is a game changer. Now the only problem is…keeping it a secret.
The story was well written with a great cast of characters. I am invested in their story’s and cannot wait to read about Liam and Sophie. Noah and Maya had amazing chemistry and their own individual journeys. I loved all the interviews and videos that Maya put together for her vlogs. Most provided both funny and poignant moments with the characters that made me enjoy them even more. I will definitely be following this author as her career progresses. I look forward to the next book in this series.
The cover of this book is good and so is the story.
The writing is in my opinion a little bit long winded but still good for a first time author.
Noah and Maya are great characters both so differend and yet they are pretty damn good together. Both of then have to struggle with stuff in their families but I really loved how it all ended.
I also really enjoyed how you felt as if you where part of the book and a bystander in some situations. The details of the races where great and unexpected. The author really did her research on that one.
I‘m also very curious to find out more about the other characters you get to know in this book especially Sophie, Liam and Santiago.
