Were pulled into a world of magic and fae. I love Brie and Kai make a great duo. She sides with what she believes and that truth hurts her. She lived free once before but to save her friends. In doing so gave her life for them. Within her cage she has rose up but yet still oppressed. She wants to better the world and bring fae to better life. She didn’t know it was a double edge sword. Sophia Davis builds strong characters and riveting story. Great detail and inter personal relationships all through out the book. It makes you wonder how things came to be this way. Kai brings hope that things can change and a real difference made. Only Brie must choose where her loyalty lies. Can’t wait to read the next book, Throne of Fire: Dark Court
Throne of Winter (Dark Court: The Fire Fae, Book 1) by Sophie Davis and narrated by Sarah Puckett is an enjoyable YA story with tons of potential. Recommend if you’re looking for a YA story with magical elements. 4 stars for story, 3 for narration.
What’s it about? Maybrie (Brie), who is of Fae blood, was captured when she was younger and has been fighting in the pits in order to gain her freedom. She has become a well-known fighter over the years but despite this, she is still considered to be of the lowest caste (Casters, Shifters, Fae, and Vampires). She moonlights as a waitress to give money to the resistance. She meets Prince Kai one night who asks her on a date. Brie is asked to spy on him by the rebellion, however, her feelings soon get in the way and she is torn on what to do and who to trust. The world is set as a dystopian with tech and magical elements. There are things I absolutely love about this book, then there are parts lacking details (hopefully in future installments?) or too much detail on unimportant things that would keep the story moving. If you find yourself saying meh to the beginning, please stick with it as once it picks up, it gets better.
The narrator, Sarah Puckett, was not my cup of tea in the beginning, but she did grow on me and improved as the story progressed. I turned the book off several times before making it to a point where I wanted to listen and not put it down. The beginning is rough (story too), but as it goes on, she gets better (not so monotone, not so meh). With this being said, I would listen to the second book in the series and hope it’s in production.
*I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you for allowing me to listen and review the book!
I got one enjoyed this book immensely. It is one of those go slow so you don’t miss anything kind of reads. Just soak it all in. I could even see this making a good movie. I love the characters and there dynamic with each other. The storyline and all the ways it can develop. Thank you Sophie for this happy place in my day.
This was the first book I have read by this author and it won’t be the last. I know many people have complained about wanting a back story behind the winter world but for me, that was secondary to the world the story takes place in. Magic and mayhem, murder and betrayal as well as a cast of interesting characters and a smoldering love story that left me wanting a whole lot more. The book ends without all the questions being answered but its not quite a cliffhanger more of a new beginning. Look forward to reading more from this author
I thought the story was very interesting and I liked how it had multiple genres. It had UF, drama, dystopian, with a hint of romance in this book. I loved how it was said that the beach was there but that this was a frozen place. I could just picture it in my head along with the people that lived in this world. For the first book I thought that it was promising and I still have tons of questions that I’m hoping book 2 will answer.
Wow this book is a Fantastic read. It grabbed me from the first page to the last. It a real page turner that had me on the edge of my seat. With lots of twists and turns. I love how well This story is written. Its like the Characters just jump of the page. This is a definite must read.

I love Brie, the fire fae fighter who has 100 wins under her belt in the arena. She isn’t going to let some cute prince flatter her and forget her morals. She can make it through one date to get info for the resistance. She definitely isn’t going to keep her comments to herself when it comes to fae not being allowed to leave the dome or the fact they were all kidnapped to get there.
What a fabulous story. Brie is a fae and captured by vampires. Kai is the prince of the kingdom under the dome and this is where Brie lives now. Over the years, she has become a famous fighter and Kai has his eyes on her. What he doesn’t know is that she also works for the rebellion. Brilliant story and I cannot wait for the next one. Very highly recommended.
