After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.
Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a … by a member of the king’s council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.
Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her… but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.
Then one of the other contestants turns up dead… quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

It took me a while to get into this book but when i finally did, I really liked it!
Love this series!!
After recently finishing A Court of Thorns and Roses and A Court of Mist and Fury , I preordered the paperback of A Court of Wings and Ruin and the lovely A Court of Frost and Starlight . During the one week I had to wait for their delivery, I was a complete nutter. I was going out of my mind wondering what was going to happen to my favorite …
This series is crazy addictive! You won’t be able to put it down!!
I read this entire book sitting in the back seat of my parent’s prius on a 17 hour trip from OH to NH. I could not put it down. If you are a fan of Tamora Pierce, you will be happy to jump back into a world of strong, flawed, amazing heroines who are willing to fight against the injustices in the world.
I love this series. It’s not meant for 16 and under. Great start to it and the rest of the series has been a amazing to read.
This is my absolute favorite series. Though the books are long, I can’t help but to finish each one in a day! I can’t put them down. This book is much slower than the rest in the series, but still wonderful. I recommend this series to anyone who loves to read!

Good story .Pulls you in and keeps you worrying about the characters. Strong female lead who can bring you along for the adventure.
This series is one that I am so thankful I stumbled upon! The characters all have their own little nuances and personalities and many times they easily Clash but yet they still have to work together for the same goal… Or is it different goals? The great thing about this book is there so many twists and turns you get a little dizzy sometimes …
There is a reason she is called the Maas-ter
