After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.
Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a … by a member of the king’s council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.
Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her… but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.
Then one of the other contestants turns up dead… quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

Totally sucked into this series. Have to say books 1-3 were good, but 4-6 so far are excellent. The world building is very good. A great cast of characters. And a bit of romance for the HEA junkie inside me.
Loved this book. The first book in a 6 book series (4 are currently out). It reminds me of Poison Study by Maria Snyder and Graceling by Kristin Cashore both excellent stories. Strong female protagonist that knows herself. However, she goes on an incredible journey. Magic, elves, violence, and murder. Definitely for Upper Middle School and …
If you haven’t started this series, get on it! Love, love, loooove.
I decided to try Throne of Glass as my first YA read in years, having heard a lot of great things about Sarah J. Maas’s A Court Of series. Unfortunately, it was kind of a watery read, with characters I couldn’t care about and vague gestures at world-building.
It was definitely easy to get through and there were certain elements of the premise …
The action doesn’t stop, and with a strong female lead, this story is a hands-down must read. Couldn’t get enough of Maas’ fantasy-fueled world!
I am just hooked on Sarah J. Maas’s books! A good friend recommended the series when I read the Court of Thorns and Roses series (which by the way is faaar from over!). The book starts out with Celaena Sardothien, the badass imprisoned for being the Assassin of Adarlan. She’s been “freed” from her prison salt mines in Endovier so that she can …
Heard about this series years ago, but I’m just picking it up. Best. Decision. Ever. I’m only on the first book and I can’t wait to get my hands on the second. You have this great female assassin who was betrayed, jailed, and made to fight in this tournament for her freedom. Oh, and she has to compete against these other equally great competitors …
The Throne of Glass Series would make a great movie or TV series. I read the book would love to see come to life.
This series is incredible, This is the First book in the series! I am on book 5 Empire of Storms! I highly recommend this series, Sarah takes you on a journey that is Exciting and Enthralling. This series will keep you on the edge of your seat, and it is very hard to put down!
I’m not going to lie; I am totally invested in this series already. It has everything I normally crave for in a fantasy: great characters (both likable and not), great drama and intrigue, mystery and the promise of magic, and of course romance. I loved ACOTAR and I have great hopes for this series. I was a bit thrown off at the end (no spoilers) …
I loved all 7 installments of this series. They were tragic at some parts, and joyful at others. You really get to know the characters as if you were right there with them. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves adventure and long reads.
Ohhhh, how this book whisked me away.
I had listened in audio, and from, what I assume is the first page, I was HOOKED. The characters are believable, the world is outstanding, and the plot is twisty. LOVED IT! Will be grabbing the next one.
My recommending this is obvious. A real tour de force of a story, reading Throne of Glass will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Phenomenal world building and the characters are strong and well developed. The introduction of each character was flawless and they came alive on paper.
Celaena, Adarlan’s Assassin, is a likable character and her personality is charming, but she also has a wicked tongue. Chaol, Captain of the Royal Guard, is a complex character, but I immensely …
I had pretty high expectations for this book – I absolutely love Maas’ Court of Thorns and Roses series, and I’d heard just as amazing things about this one. Sadly, it didn’t quite live up to the hype for me. The world-building was almost nonexistent, which meant there were a lot of plot holes that were difficult for me to get around. …
I absolutely loved this series but I’m fairly certain the first book was hands down my favorite one. So many great characters that you get to know through their journey and get to watch them grow. I was a little sad when it was all over.
I’m actually not a big fantasy reader, but everyone loves Sarah J. Maas so I figured there had to be something about her books! And indeed, this one captured my attention and held it all the way to the end. The plot may have meandered a little here and there, but it didn’t matter because Celaena Sardothien kept me entertained the whole time. A …
Who doesn’t love a strong heroine, rich world-building, and a plot that keeps surprising you? I usually don’t like love triangles, but Sarah Maas handles this one carefully, and has it worked out by the end of the book. I love the fantastical elements of the story, and the heroine’s complex characterization. She’s an assassin, which should make …
This was a nice introduction to a new world and definitely something that made me want to read the rest of the series. Celaena is an interesting and well rounded character, but I wish there was more diversity to be seen.
This is such an amazing series. It has a little of everything. Celaena Sardothian was a renowned assassin at the age of 17 until she was set up to be captured. After spending a year in a prison slave camp she is offered a second chance. The Prince of Adarlan offers to have her released if she is willing to be his champion in the tournament his …
