Tara Shiloh knows she’s not a drug addict. She’s positive she’s a good mother and hard worker. So why is she in an alley with a needle in her arm? Waking up in the hospital without her son is terrifying. Being told she can’t have him back nearly crushes her. With her memory spotty and the circumstances incriminating, Tara must fight to learn the truth and wrestle with the idea that maybe her son … son is better off without her. Reid Holliston defends guilty people for a living and it’s slowly killing him. He’s certain there is no such thing as a truly blameless client anymore. When his phone rings with a voice from his childhood his jaded views make him certain Tara is just one more criminal claiming innocence. But even his skepticism isn’t enough to keep him away. Best friends from a lifetime ago, the two must find a way to trust each other again in spite of how the years apart have changed them. Can a promise made in childhood be enough to save them both?

This was a great read!
Well written, easy read.
I would have given this a 5-star rating but was disappointed that the author fell back on the “I don’t have any great ideas right now so I’ll right about those crazy Christians” theme. I’ve been around Christians and church-goers (yes there can be a difference) all my 68 years of life and never come across one that is anything like Christians/church-goers are portrayed in books and movies/TV. At least Ms. Stewart did, near the end, explain that this was a cult more than a church, which redeemed her somewhat. Anyway, except for this usual portrayal, I liked the characters and the story. Ms. Stewart is a very good writer and I will probably read other books by her.
Excellent plot. Great for book club discussion on morality vs self interest re family.
I was so nervous for the heroine!!!! So liked the ending!!!!!!!!
Great book if you like suspense and mystery, with an very unexpected twisty ending!!
This is the story of young sole parent with a three-year-old son who is suddenly taken away from the mother due to being accused of a crime. She meets an old friend who is a lawyer and works on her legal case but he has mixed feelings about whether she committed the crime. Conflict and twists surround the characters and the plot is engaging and entertaining. I wasn’t sure I liked the female protagonist in the beginning, but she showed character growth and resilience and became more likable for me as the story went on. Definitely worth a read.
Keeps you guessing!
great story–did not have a good editor, lots of grammatical errors.
interesting concept.
Amazing book!
Enjoyable read
Wonderful!
Wow! I was surprised that I really enjoyed it so much. Was sad to have finished it. It offered good insight to our changing world and how easy it could be to be caught in a crazy drug world
Reminds you of how belonging to a cult can drive one to ridiculous and heart-breaking choices.
