Tara Shiloh knows she’s not a drug addict. She’s positive she’s a good mother and hard worker. So why is she in an alley with a needle in her arm? Waking up in the hospital without her son is terrifying. Being told she can’t have him back nearly crushes her. With her memory spotty and the circumstances incriminating, Tara must fight to learn the truth and wrestle with the idea that maybe her son … son is better off without her. Reid Holliston defends guilty people for a living and it’s slowly killing him. He’s certain there is no such thing as a truly blameless client anymore. When his phone rings with a voice from his childhood his jaded views make him certain Tara is just one more criminal claiming innocence. But even his skepticism isn’t enough to keep him away. Best friends from a lifetime ago, the two must find a way to trust each other again in spite of how the years apart have changed them. Can a promise made in childhood be enough to save them both?

Loved it, devoured it. Though I had it basically figured out early on, it just did not matter because Danielle has a way with devoting my heart to the characters themselves and in such a way that I felt I just couldn’t “give up” on them. (My only wish for any of her books is for more detail on the physical appearance of each character so I can create more of a picture in my mind of what they look like) I could relate to the indecision and fear that life’s experiences create, especially the Mom experience. Every ounce of me was rooting and wincing for Tara throughout the entire book. I was also very pleasantly surprised (and maybe ignorant of) the Edenville tie but sometimes ignorance is bliss?! Left me feeling very warm & fuzzy.
Excellent, quick read. Quick because I never wanted to have to stop reading! I figured out the “bad guys” pretty early in the book, but it was still a pleasure moving toward that conclusion. Ms. Stewart has created an incredible woman in Tara, and Reid’s coming around was fun to read. The story is suspenseful and unique, and the story lines casual and believable.
I enjoyed this one. Different and fast paced with a sympathetic main character and not too predictable plot, it was one of those that occasionally keeps me ready too far into the night. Simply entertaining if you like a little suspense with your mystery.
Tara is a single parent. She has just woken up in a hospital room. People are saying she tried to kill herself with a heroin overdose. She does not do drugs. Her husband died of an overdose and she would never do that. She is working 3 jobs trying to make sure her son has food even if she goes without sometime. No one will believe her. They say she abandoned her son. She cannot remember what happened after going grocery shopping. She calls upon a childhood friend, Reid, who is a lawyer,to help her. She needs help figuring out what happened that night and help getting her son back. She has always loved Reid and hopes he will be willing to help her.
Good book
Great Read! You can’t help rooting for this girl!
This books was a real page-turner . . . once I started it, it was hard to stop!
Wrote already on book bub.
It was a good book and I like this author as well.
Love the character building thru past and present story line
This book has mystery, tension and a lot of emotions. The story takes you on a great journey. I found myself staying up late at night to finish it. The book is well written and great read. I really enjoy Danielle Stewart’s books.
Very interesting. Hard to put down. A good author. I usually read more relaxing books, but this one kept me reading. I like the author especially well and chose the book because of that.
Interesting read.
Could not predict what would happen next. Enjoyed the tension.
Outstanding
This was a good read. It kept me wanting more.
This was a good story. Characters were believable and the plot twisted and turned with just enough of a hint of romance to keep things interesting.
A great read I did not want to put the book down
This author never disappoints, fantastic as always
Though my world does not include drug abuse, big city life, a harrowing or pampered childhood, this story is far more than educational and inspirational. It helps me, and others hopefully, understand how and why people find themselves in very difficult situations in life. And it may help readers to become empathetic and inspired to help.
