The beloved New York Times bestsellers that inspired the popular BBC series—from a Yorkshire veterinarian and a “wise and wonderful writer” (The Boston Globe). Perhaps better than any other writer, James Herriot reveals the ties that bind us to the natural world. Collected here are three of his masterpieces—All Creatures Great and Small, All Things Bright and Beautiful, and All Things Wise and … and Beautiful, and All Things Wise and Wonderful—which have been winning over animal lovers everywhere for almost fifty years. From his night visits to drafty barns during freezing northern England winters, to the beautiful vitality of rural life in the summertime, to the colorful menagerie of animals—and their owners—that pass through his office, Herriot vividly evokes the daily challenges and joys that come with being a veterinarian.
Witty and heartwarming, this collection of whimsical, dramatic, and touching anecdotes reveals the ties that bind us to the animals in our lives. This edition features a new introduction from the author’s son and bonus archival photos.

Enjoyable for all ages. You’ll feel like you live in Darrowby near the veterinary clinic.
Great for readers who are drawn to stories about the simple life in Yorkshire. Although I am not a serious animal lover, I still found these to be well worth my time. This country veterinarian’s stories are a mixture of quaint humor and sadness.

My sister loved reading Herriott. She frequently told me I’d like it. I had thought, “It’s about a British guy, and he’s a veterinarian, and it’s during the Depression of the 1930s. Why would I want to read it?” Then one evening I was stuck for something to read, so I started “All Creatures Great and Small.” . . . Six hours later I had finished …
I loved his stories about being a country Vet. They were charming, witty and engaging and some were funny.

He writes with wit and wisdom while sharing his life before and after World War I in Yorkshire with his mostly four-legged patients and his partners. The author writes with great affection for the Yorkshire area and its inhabitants. While written some years ago, these stories carry …
