The beloved New York Times bestsellers that inspired the popular BBC series—from a Yorkshire veterinarian and a “wise and wonderful writer” (The Boston Globe). Perhaps better than any other writer, James Herriot reveals the ties that bind us to the natural world. Collected here are three of his masterpieces—All Creatures Great and Small, All Things Bright and Beautiful, and All Things Wise and … and Beautiful, and All Things Wise and Wonderful—which have been winning over animal lovers everywhere for almost fifty years. From his night visits to drafty barns during freezing northern England winters, to the beautiful vitality of rural life in the summertime, to the colorful menagerie of animals—and their owners—that pass through his office, Herriot vividly evokes the daily challenges and joys that come with being a veterinarian.
Witty and heartwarming, this collection of whimsical, dramatic, and touching anecdotes reveals the ties that bind us to the animals in our lives. This edition features a new introduction from the author’s son and bonus archival photos.

Love these stories – so well written and evocative. I plan to watch the new BBC TV series as soon as it comes out on PBS!
I read these books as a child and I still love them as much today! One of my favorite authors ever. You can’t go wrong reading these books!
I truly love all of his books. He, as a veterinarian, writes about his interactions with the farmers who call upon him, some being helpful, others not really, the problems with the animals and his interactions with the other residents, such as his boss, at the practice. There is also a great love for the landscape that sometimes soothes his soul …
Absolutely loved it! Very well written. All animal lovers will be this book!
I loved that this was written by James Herriot about his real life as a country vet. The characters are hilarious and when you finish one volume you can’t wait to start the next one.
I really like all of these. A fascinating look into a vet’s life.
Reread these after many years. What a delightful time remembering why I loved these books when they first came out. Any animal lover will especially enjoy these books.
All time classic stories. Worth re-reading several times.

These books are great to see the life of a large animal vet early in the 20th century. A pure pleasure to read.
A great story about a vet in England from the past. Goes along with my up-bring around all kinds of animals.

My favorite of all time. Wonderful stories told with laughter, empathy and compassion. A must read for any animal lover!
Life of a vet
James Herriot, an English veteranian in WWII era, writes one of the best and beloved series of the love between animals and humans. Poignant, descriptive, insightful, and sometimes heart-wrenching. Most people wish they had not read them just so they could read them again! A wonderful read. Enjoy!
One of my favorite authors, own them all. Re-read if I need to visit an old friend.
I love to read James Herriot. He has a way with words.
I have read all of James Herriott’s books. This trio is his first three books. Wonderful animal stories written by an amazing veterinarian who’s love for all animals is admirable. Read the books, you’ll love them
I would have loved to have met James Herriot. Anyone that loved animals and their people to the degree he did as obviously he demonstrated thru his writing was a true treasure. I’m so glad we have his books.
