The beloved New York Times bestsellers that inspired the popular BBC series—from a Yorkshire veterinarian and a “wise and wonderful writer” (The Boston Globe). Perhaps better than any other writer, James Herriot reveals the ties that bind us to the natural world. Collected here are three of his masterpieces—All Creatures Great and Small, All Things Bright and Beautiful, and All Things Wise and … and Beautiful, and All Things Wise and Wonderful—which have been winning over animal lovers everywhere for almost fifty years. From his night visits to drafty barns during freezing northern England winters, to the beautiful vitality of rural life in the summertime, to the colorful menagerie of animals—and their owners—that pass through his office, Herriot vividly evokes the daily challenges and joys that come with being a veterinarian.
Witty and heartwarming, this collection of whimsical, dramatic, and touching anecdotes reveals the ties that bind us to the animals in our lives. This edition features a new introduction from the author’s son and bonus archival photos.

I read these 3 books when they first came out, and read other books by James Herriot, too. Well worth reading if you love pets.
These books are always heart warming and sweet.
You’ll laugh and cry while reading this book. And it’s a don’t miss if you are an animal lover. It’s a world apart from any I have ever lived in. Nostalgic and old world but certainly applicable to our life with animals today. Makes me wish I was there…and isn’t that what a good read does best, take you away to another time or place.
I read all of these when I was young. Wonderful stories.
Loved it!
James Herriot is as usual, truly readable with charming characters, great animals and insights to the inner life of a busy veterinarian. When your patients cannot speak you have to listen harder. Reading a James Herriot is like a visit home.
If you love animals, these stories are for you.
This is a classic for good reasons, I cannot recommend it enough. This is not the first time I have read it. The librarian claimed that it is one of the most popular cd’s in Orange County California System, Adults and children adore the …
Taken together, these three books constitute Herriot’s memoirs of life as a veterinarian in England’s far northern Yorkshire Dales. Coming from the chaos and pollution of …

All animal lovers must read these. WONDERFUL.
Since these books are an autobiography you must bear in mind that all situations do not have an HEA but these are beautifully written and pull you into another place and time. If you watched the TV series you will find the books to be much richer and deeper.
Herriott wraps us up in his lovingly told tales of humans carrying for animals and v/v. The truth and beauty of their lives is engrossing and engaging. You’ll love them.
