The beloved New York Times bestsellers that inspired the popular BBC series—from a Yorkshire veterinarian and a “wise and wonderful writer” (The Boston Globe). Perhaps better than any other writer, James Herriot reveals the ties that bind us to the natural world. Collected here are three of his masterpieces—All Creatures Great and Small, All Things Bright and Beautiful, and All Things Wise and … and Beautiful, and All Things Wise and Wonderful—which have been winning over animal lovers everywhere for almost fifty years. From his night visits to drafty barns during freezing northern England winters, to the beautiful vitality of rural life in the summertime, to the colorful menagerie of animals—and their owners—that pass through his office, Herriot vividly evokes the daily challenges and joys that come with being a veterinarian.
Witty and heartwarming, this collection of whimsical, dramatic, and touching anecdotes reveals the ties that bind us to the animals in our lives. This edition features a new introduction from the author’s son and bonus archival photos.

I love these books they are so funny and he has a great way of making you feel everything he does. They are a classic I will want to read them again and again.
A lot of people have tried to imitate Herriot, usually with limited success. His prose is clean, everything is well-rendered, and I just find myself wanting to spend more time in his tales. Highly recommended.
There is no such thing as too much James Herriot!
I chose this trio of James Herriot as all of his books are a delight to read. The author is a veterinarian in England who is a genius in humor! He will keep you laughing as animals and his colleagues keep him humble. He will warm your heart as he displays his genuine love of people and animals.
A great read. A true classic.
I have always enjoyed James Herriot’s books and I enjoyed rereading these books. He does a good job of describing the characters that he met up with during his practice.
One my top five favorite book series, have read these again and again over the past 30 years. Anyone with animals will find them a Laugh out load romp!
What can I say, James Herriot, it’s a classic. Movies made of it. Is just fun to read.
James H. brings back memories of time spent in G.B. Quirky characters. Lovely landscapes. COLD winds. Always interesting and heat warming.

Wonderful books to read aloud to family and friends.
Lifetime favorites.

Delightful characters brought to life through Herriott’s loving them, their animals, and the country: then immortalized in his delightful and engaging words, sentences. stories. I DO recommend.
What a happy chronicle of the busy and devoted life of an veterinarian. Wonderful reading.
What can be said about James Herriot that hasn’t already been said many times? By the end of the first page you are there with him in Yorkshire. He had the ability to draw you in immediately and keep you there through the book. He seemed to see the best in people, the land and animals without loosing the touch of reality that makes his stories …
I loved reading these books again! I read them many years ago, and also loved the PBS TV series made from them!
Best series ever for animal lovers
These are stories I read to my kids years ago, and they haven’t lost any of their charm. We were fans of the BBC series (just hearing the theme music makes me smile) and are looking forward to the new one.
I envy people who haven’t read these James Herriot books yet; they have such wonderful reading waiting for them. Due to the rules governing self advertisement by the veterinarians era, Alf Wight wrote his memoir of the era under the pen name of ‘James Herriot’, and altered the identities of the people in the stories to protect their privacy.
