When a child goes missing, two mothers’ lives collide in a shocking way in this suspenseful novel from the bestselling author of The Marriage Lie.
It’s every parent’s worst nightmare: the call that comes in the middle of the night. When Kat Jenkins awakens to the police on her doorstep, her greatest fear is realized. Her nine-year-old son, Ethan, is missing–vanished from the cabin where he’d been on an overnight class trip. Shocked and distraught, Kat rushes to the campground, but she’s too late; the authorities have returned from their search empty-handed after losing Ethan’s trail in the mountain forest.
Another mother from the school, Stef Huntington, seems like she has it all: money, prominence in the community, a popular son and a loving husband. She hardly knows Kat, except for the vicious gossip that swirls around Kat’s traumatic past. But as the police investigation unfolds, Ethan’s disappearance has earth-shattering consequences for Stef, as her path crosses with Kat. As the two mothers race against the clock, their desperate search for answers reveals how the greatest dangers lie behind the everyday smiles of those they trust the most.

Three Days Missing is a highly entertaining thriller with crisp writing, believable characters, and a plot that delivers… I almost swallowed this book in one sitting.
This book kept me from doing all sorts of things I was supposed to do today, spurred on by those empty “just one more chapter” promises that readers make when they’re really engrossed. Kudos to the author for writing such a page-turner.
Kimberly Belle’s Three Days Missing is her best book yet. And that’s saying a lot. This one is vividly written, emotional, and engaging, with real, three-dimensional characters who will always keep you guessing. And the finale… it’s a right cross to the reader’s jaw I never saw coming. Buckle up and turn the pages as fast as you can. This one’s a winner!
Gripping and compelling with great characterization, Three Days Missing is a first-class read.
What a ride! I listened to the audio of this book with my heart in my throat, experiencing everything Kat went through as the single mother of a missing child. When the story of a second family wove into the plot, the pace didn’t slow down, it picked up. And I’m still mulling over that ending. All hail, Kimberly Belle, queen of domestic suspense.
Another home run for Kimberly Belle! She is such an amazing writer. I could barely put this book down long enough to sleep, bathe, go to work, etc. There are so many plot twists that I didn’t see coming. The characters are all amazing, and I especially loved Ethan. Kimberly Belle never disappoints, and I can’t wait for her next book.
Kimberly Belle is an expert suspense building and you are in for a wild ride with every book she writes. Don’t miss this one.
Three Days Missing is a chilling, twisty tale pitting two moms against each other in a desperate search for a boy, and the truth. Gripping.
This book is an edge-of-your seat, can’t turn the pages fast enough, thrill a minute, masterpiece! It details a mother’s anguish when her son is kidnapped during a class camping trip. There are many twists in this story and the motive for the kidnapping is not at all what it seems. Fans of Shari LaPena, Kate Moretti, and Nicole Baart will love this book!
Kimberly Belle is a one-click author for me, so when I saw the audiobook I couldn’t resist as I hadn’t read the book yet.
Ms. Belle’s style is so utterly perfect and she brings an element of pure human emotion that few authors can. Event though the kidnapper was fairly evident (to me, anyway) the author does a superb job of seasoning the plot with just the right amount of clues and a nice balance of sub-plot to keep the listener on their toes.
I enjoyed the dual-character POV, however the two women were so similar in voice, it was hard at times to remember who was narrating (if I had to stop in the middle of a chapter) and there were several times when the narrator briefly sounded like she was in a tin can which was distracting, but it didn’t take away from the story.
I love Ms. Belle’s novels and recommend this one to anyone who enjoys a thriller.
Kimberly Belle delivers Three Days Missing with a powerful punch and a skillfully twisting plot that flings you headlong into a riveting conclusion that you’ll never see coming.
Kimberly Belle’s Three Days Missing is exactly what you want in a thriller — riveting, edge-of-your-seat storytelling. When an eight-year-old is kidnapped from a remote Georgia campground, two seemingly opposite mothers fight to recover the boy. Every minute counts as Belle keeps the story racing to its gripping end, but the most intriguing element of the book is the interplay between disparate characters. Belle resists easy conclusions and nearly every relationship — be it spouse, family, friend, or foe — doubles down on its intricacies during the course of the action, making readers acutely aware of the unfathomable space between ourselves and others. Absolutely unputdownable. I couldn’t let go of this book until I’d devoured the last page.
Three Days Missing is a taut, intelligent, heart-pounding thriller about two mothers whose lives intersect when the unimaginable happens and a little boy goes missing. Belle weaves a spellbinding tale of suspense and family drama that twists and turns until the final pages. I couldn’t put it down!
4 out of 5 stars
It’s a nightmare for any parent. When Kat Jenkins sends her young son, Ethan, on an overnight school trip, her biggest fear is that bully, Sammy Huntington, will torment her borderline-genius and somewhat awkward son. It’s her worst case scenario until police knock on the door in the middle of the night to tell her that Ethan is missing. He vanished. No one saw anything.
The high level of suspense kept me turning the pages! A variety of well developed characters brought to their knees by the unthinkable sucked me in immediately and never let go. Ms. Belle hooked me with THE MARRIAGE LIE and certainly didn’t disappoint with this psychological thriller.
I would have liked for the “why” of the story to come back to Kat and Ethan rather than the way it played out, but the disappointment was a small price to pay for the thrill of the ride.
I don’t want to go into to detail and spoil the ending, but I have to add that I absolutely loved the short chapter at the end. A revelation I didn’t see coming coupled with a deep sense of satisfaction wrapped the book up nicely.
All in all, a really great read!
I thought I knew what was happening as I started the book, then it changed, and yet changed again before the end. Even though I figured things out before the end, it kept me on my toes page after page! Great book…and took me less than three days to read it!
If you want a book you hate to put down, that will make you forget the pot of boiling water on the stove, that will keep you up into the wee hours of the morning…this is that book. I’ve been hooked since page one and I’m almost at the point of snarling at people if they continue to interrupt my reading time 😉
Kat Jenkins is in the midst of a messy divorce from Andrew, her abusive, wealthy husband — complete with a restraining order. She has managed to keep her nine-year-old son, Ethan, enrolled at Cambridge, the prestigious private school where he has had difficulty forming friendships, largely because of his extraordinary intellect and photographic memory. After he begged to go, she permitted him to participate in an overnight school trip to an old gold rush town, complete with two hundred foot mines. Secure with the new backpack he has longed for and her father’s old compass, Ethan sets off with his classmates.
Ethan bears a striking physical resemblance to his classmate, Sammy. But that’s where the similarities end. Sammy is an indulged bully, the pampered son of Stef and Sam Huntington, the mayor of Atlanta. Wealthy, privileged, and influential, Stef is a beautiful woman who appears to lead an idyllic life.
In the middle of the night, Kat is awakened by police on her doorstep telling her that Ethan disappeared from the cabin in which he was staying with the other children. Kat immediately rushes to the campsite, joined by her best friend, Lucas Tanner, her “brother in every way but blood,” a former Marine trained in search and rescue.
Kat and Stef are mere acquaintances when Ethan goes missing, but they soon find their lives intersecting in ways neither of them could ever have imagined. As the hours tick by and Ethan remains missing, author Kimberly Belle reveals clues to his disappearance and details about the Huntington’s lives at tautly-timed intervals. From its opening, Three Days Missing is a tense, meticulously-crafted thriller in which a vulnerable little boy’s welfare is at the heart of the drama. Kat is a wholly believable mother in crisis — Ethan is her whole life. She is strong and determined. Stef, who appears to be a proverbial “trophy wife,” is an intriguing character whose strength and resilience is gradually revealed as the search drags on and she grows increasingly suspicious about Sam’s political ties and Josh, his cousin and chief of staff. The two mothers become unlikely allies as the search for Ethan intensifies with each passing minute, with Sammy playing an integral part in solving the mystery. Belle includes a supporting cast of colorful characters, including Stef’s psychic mother, that add interest and keep the tale entertaining. Finally, the pace of the story quickens as the characters hone in on the truth. And a jaw-dropping conclusion.
As with The Marriage Lie, Belle has penned an un-put-downable thriller that will keep readers guessing right up to the shocking end.
Thanks to NetGalley for an Advance Reader’s Copy of the book.
This is an unputdownable, thrilling, roller coaster ride of a book! Kat is a single mom of 9 year old Ethan. He is on a camping school field trip when he goes missing. Every mom’s worst nightmare! This book is told by Kat and by Stefanie whose son was also on the trip. I felt Kat’s pain and anguish over her son missing. The descriptions of the scenery has you searching right along for Ethan. Just when you think you may have figured something out, another twist comes. I truly loved this book and the ending was a complete surprise! I received an advanced readers copy and all opinions are my own.
A parent’s worst nightmare … a son is abducted and no one saw or heard anything.
Kat is a single mom, doing her best for her son. The police pound on her front door to let her know that her son, Ethan, has been abducted from a school sponsored overnight camping trip. Kat is rushed to the campgrounds, but there has been no sign of Ethan … the trackers lost his trail in the forest.
At the same time, Stef is receiving a call on her cell phone. The caller says he has Sammy, her 8-year-old son. He, also, is on the same camping trip as Ethan.
So who’s son has been taken? and why? and by whom?
This is a well written novel that depicts two women who have been given the worst news .. and how the each cope. The story is told, in turn, by each woman. There are surprises that I guarantee you will never see coming. The ending is a nail biter.
Many thanks to the author / Park Row / Edelweiss for the advanced copy of this intriguing thriller. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Two women, two different life styles, two children the same age, and then one disappears.
Ethan went missing from a school event held overnight at a camp in a wooded part of Georgia.
Ethan was a bullied child and Sammy was a coddled, spoiled child who was the bully. Funny thing is that they resembled each other. The question was if Sammy was the target instead of Ethan.
The search reached far and wide, and the only clue was a trail of clues left by Ethan and a phone call from the kidnapper.
THREE DAYS MISSING moved at as frantic a pace as the search. Ms. Belle left us hanging at the end of each chapter with a clue that wasn’t revealed until another chapter.
As the search reached the forty-one hour mark, a school meeting was organized, and parents started telling what their children remembered.
Could the children’s revelations be the big break through?
Did one of the children know more than they were telling?
Could Kat and Stef become friends after this even though their children were not friends?
Could they really share the grief of a missing child?
But…most importantly can Stef help with finding Ethan or will she have problems of her own that need to be taken care of?
If you like mysteries that have unexpected twists and turns, THREE DAYS MISSING will need to go in your stack of to-be-read books.
THREE DAYS MISSING pulls you in and keeps you guessing along with the characters.
You won’t want to stop reading because of the subject matter and because of the way the book is set up. 5/5
