A trio of powerful New York Times bestsellers—which all became the basis for acclaimed films—from the award-winning Southern novelist. The Great Santini: A son struggles to escape the domineering expectations of his volatile military father. “Robust and vivid . . . full of feeling” (Newsday). The Lords of Discipline: Will McLean begins his studies at the Carolina Military Institute during the … studies at the Carolina Military Institute during the Vietnam War era and must mentor the school’s first black student—while facing down the menace of a racist secret society. “A work of enormous power, passion, humor, and wisdom” (Jonathan Yardley, TheWashington Star).
The Prince of Tides: When Tom Wingo learns that his twin sister has attempted suicide—again—he leaves the Low Country to visit her in New York and confront the family secret that haunts them both. “Conroy has achieved a penetrating vision of the Southern psyche” (Publishers Weekly).
Deeply influenced by the author’s own experiences, with his Southern family and education at the Citadel in Charleston, these stunning novels represent the very best of Pat Conroy’s impressive literary career. The South Carolina–set sagas were made into blockbuster films—two of them earning multiple Academy Award nominations—and each is a rich, emotional journey into the inner lives of fascinating characters.

Pat Conroy is a terrific read.
Five stars for each book.
Deep, thoughtful, and educational.
Pat Conroy’s stories have the most realistic characters. Reading his books take you to the locales. You can smell the southern flowers and the salt air and feel the wet beach sand between your toes! There is always a sadness to his stories but I can read them over and over.
Pat Conroy writes so realistically about the South…its beautiful and harsh realities. Great books, worth reading again to savor.
I love everything by Pat Conroy
I just love his writing. He is my all-time favorite author. The world has lost an incredibly talented man.
Pat Conroy is one of my favorite authors. He is very verbose; however, I like the descriptive writing in all of his novels. I was so sad when he passed away a year or so ago from pancreatic cancer. One of America’s great storytellers.
Conroy was simply the best writer of the last quarter of the 20th century. His works drips with the wounds wrought by parents at war with themselves. He is never afraid to expose those wounds and show just how much they have hurt and how much they have contributed to making him what he is. I can’t get enough of his writing and femme day to anyone with am empathetic soul to read everything he has ever written. You will be enriched.
Conroy is the real deal. An American author who captures the deep South in a personal, deeply realistic way and creates spaces for the reader’s own emotions and thoughts to come into play throughout the story. His characters almost step off the page and into readers’ hearts. We lost a great one when Conroy passed.
Loved all three of the books
Anything Pat Conroy writes is a must read. He is a master story teller.
Love Pat Conroy. I’ve read almost all of his books multiple times.
Lords Of Discipline is in my Top Ten of All Time – and I’m 75! Complex characters, fascinating plot, suspense, great dialogue. Made me laugh out loud. Brought a tear to my eye also. Great Santini is great also. Very intense. Book much better than movie. Prince of Tides is very good too, but not as intense as the other too.
I could not finish it. Too sad.
Pat Conroy was an American Treasure! I never read any of his books that I did not like, and I have read them all. Some more than once.
Pat Conroy’s command of prose is beautiful. his prose creates images in your mind that are simply awe inspiring.
Pat Conroy is ones of my favorite writers. Each of these books touched me in different ways. I live in South Carolina and have friends who graduated from The Citadel and don’t career much for the portrayal of The Citadel in Lords of Discipline. However they mostly agree that it has merit in its accuracy of Cadet life.
My favorite hands down is Prince of Tides. Best love story and example of deep south mind set I’ve ever read. Awesome story teller!
The three best from Conroy, an underrated master.
Three great classics in one…..nice
