Book 1 in a feel good Regency Romance series, full of love, with just the right amount of steam.“Regency Romance with a modern sensibility Unique and totally relatable heroines, irresistible love interests, and a cast of family, friends and villains that thoroughly captivates.” – Ev Bishop, USA Today bestselling authorThe earl finally finds his mystery woman—will he lose her forever to his enemy, … woman—will he lose her forever to his enemy, his best friend, or his own dangerous mistake?
London-hating dreamer, Lydia Norwood, has failed spectacularly as a débutante. Now an encoretante whose family has lost a fortune, Lydia discovers that the beau monde is hard on a nouveau riche social climber, particularly one who is no longer riche and only wants to climb trees. Lydia must stave off the effrontery of rogue lords and conniving competitors long enough to make a good match, or else incur society’s scorn by being so scandalous as to earn her own money. Falling for the unattainable Lord Aldley is a distraction she cannot afford. But they share such an enchanted history, how can her heart resist?
The tragically virtuous Earl of Aldley is tired of ambitious families hurling débutantes at his head, but cannot hide in France forever. He returns to London to seek out the mysterious tree-climbing girl who once saved him from a scheming chit, and finds more than he bargained for. Abductions, seductions, trickery and injury all endanger Lydia, but Lord Aldley’s heart is imperiled beyond rescue. He has only just found her—will he lose her forever to his enemy, his best friend, or his own dangerous mistake?

Well written and interesting for the first 85% of the book. The last 15% descended into graphic sex scenes.
Unexpected and surprising with unconventional characters.
I am looking forward to reading Tilly and Rutherford’s story!
It was only ok. It has a few witty moments. That’s about the only thing l can recommend about this book.
Too much violence
Kinna hard to rate this one. It was amusing at the beginning, but by then end I was rather tired of all the “drama.” And honestly, that she lost her memory, and conflated two of her “abductions”, thinking the hero was the villain, and yet willingly bedded him — made me uncomfortable. I guess we were supposed to think “lust conquers all?”
I agree with other reviewers — her friend is the best character in this story.
Too long, too many contrived twists that don’t work well.
This book is a real page-turner. I just couldn’t put it down it was so amazingly fun to read. This author is a master storyteller. I can still see the Vivid images described in this novel as though they were right in front of me. I can hardly wait to read the next book.
This was my introduction to Tessa Candle. I intend to read more! Written with a humorous touch and some suspenseful scenes. I especially liked the opening scene, wherein our heroine Lydia is “escaping” in a park tree with a good book. She is a very sensible 19 who gets an education in how to get through the season from her new and unexpected friend Tilly and Tilly’s talent for planning and scheming.
Aldley has some family problems to solve and has his true friend Rutherford at his side. I can imagine a story for Rutherford in the future.
I was enthralled with the characters and story line for two thirds of the book. Perhaps the author suffered an accident similar to her heroine’s and resumed writing in a confused state of mind. The progressive mindset of the hero suddenly turns traditional and controlling, forbidding any wife of his from engaging in a business venture. The heroine morphs into a nymphomaniac and tease. The steamy descriptions of the plot kick into gear for the remaining third of the book, replete with noisy premarital sex while parents are staying at the same inn, and in the closet of her parents’ home! The villainous Delacroix brother and sister don’t really get the punishment they deserve. I was disappointed.
I received this book from Tessa Candle free of cost to review same. All opinions are my own. With that being said…
I don’t like to leave a lukewarm or bad review; it was lovely to be asked to review it. However, this book just wasn’t for me. I usually read books quicker than this, but it took quite a long time to grab my attention. About 100 pages could be cut out to make the story more streamlined. I was about one-third through the book before the story really started to move. There were many subplots and people that were difficult to keep up with.
The dialogue seemed to go in and out of the period. I admit I have not studied this time period, as I only get this information from previous novels I have read; therefore, I could be wrong. However, it just wasn’t believable to me that the phrases “shit-face” and “give it to me!” were used back then. Some of the actions didn’t seem right, either. Brandy? So much freedom for women to go off by themselves?
It just didn’t ring right with me that Thomas and Lydia fell madly in love when they barely interacted with each other. And Thomas wasn’t much of an alpha male. That’s a personal preference, not a problem with the story. But for that reason, I just didn’t connect.
However, I don’t want it all to sound gloom and doom. There were some very good parts to the story. I liked the beginning where Lydia and Thomas met. It was a “meet cute” that I enjoyed. I really enjoyed the character of Rutherford, Thomas’s friend. The dialogue between the friends was entertaining, and Rutherford was amusing. I wanted to learn more about Tillie.
So even though this book wasn’t my cup of tea, I believe there’s some good potential for future books from Ms. Candle. Thank you for allowing me to read an ARC of your novel, Ms. Candle!
I really enjoyed the book, although it was longer than I enjoy – I found the 2 leading ladies, Lydia Norwood & her best friend, Tilly Ravelsham to be strong, fun, intelligent, lovely, witty & wise. Thomas, the Earl of Aldley, was handsome, wealthy & I personally found him a little boring (I can’t imagine not being able to ride horses, especially a titled gentleman), but Lydia & Thomas found their HEA in spite of abductions, elopements, bribery, blackmail, accidents & lies with a few spicy love scenes towards the end – whew! I am looking forward to Tilly’s & Rutherford’s story & I recommend this book to historical romance readers.
Three Abductions & An Earl by Tessa Candle is a rather fun historical romance. Ms. Candle has given us a well-written book filled with phenomenal characters. Lydia wanted to be left in peace in the country. Instead, she is forced to London to be a debutante. Aldley is an Earl trying to avoid the earl hungry debutantes and their mothers. Lydia and Aldley’s story is loaded with action, suspense, sizzle and drama. My favorite thing about this book though is the way Ms. Candle has slipped the humor in where you don’t expect it. I enjoyed reading Three Abductions & An Earl and look forward to reading more from Tessa Candle in the future. Three Abductions & An Earl is book 1 of the Parvenues and Paramours Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
Excellent Regency Romance, the storyline was incredibly complex and so many different threads to the story. The characters are a mixture of great, greater and greatest. We enjoyed the story very much, thank you, Danny and Debbie Scott.
