This Time was a fabulous read. The author did an excellent job of building her characters, especially Nadira. They are original, realistic, and essential to the story. While not all the characters are likeable, but that is one of my favorite things about this book.
The world building was excellent and explained naturally within the story. Once the action picked up, this book was difficult to put down. I enjoy well written action with a great deal of depth. I’m one who doesn’t like a lot of fluffy, feel good moments in stories, and the author did a great job of balancing the good moments and the dark moments.
I will definitely be buying the next book!
I enjoyed this book.
It started with a very heart-rending and emotional scene which I quite enjoyed because it let’s you know why she’s like the way she is.
It was a slow start but the pace picked up when the action started.
The character nadia is very complex but you cant help but fall in love with her.
I will read more from this author
This Time by Azaaa Davis is an amazing new author for me to read. This story is the first in the an amzing start to a brand new series for me to read. I am so glad I read this story I fell in love with the whole story and characters from the very begining and it kept my interest till the very end. I can not wait to see what the author will write in the next book of this series. I highly recommend this book to everyone and if you buy this book you will not be disappointed.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Three and a half
This review is quite difficult to write because I have no wish to give things away and actually things do happen fairly quickly here. Nadira has no idea why twenty five years later she’s crawled out of her grave and is as if she never died fighting the Demon King. The war that raged as he sought out his missing daughter is apparently well and truly over with those who previously hunted Demons vilified. Who would have guessed that Demons would openly walk the Earth ? Nadira doesn’t know who to trust anymore but finding out her father is missing means she needs to get her head in the game because this time it’s personal !
I really liked this story and it had a lot of things going on that felt very unique. I did feel occasionally that the writing tried to tell rather than show and sometimes the words used to describe things felt overdone eg Nadira describing her fellow Hunter as being manhandled . However this has a different heroine with immense possibilities and potential to shake up everything. Obviously no spoilers here but if you enjoy a slice of romance in your urban fantasy then the next book is bound to be an eye opener because this is left in a way that is very intriguing.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
I received a copy of this book from the Author, in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is a fast-paced urban fantasy start to what I think will be a great series. The concept for this book is interesting and different from other books I have read. (I have not read a lot of urban fantasy so I am not sure how unique it really is).
I found myself being annoyed with Nadira sometimes but is technically is in her early 20s so some of the things that bothered me I guess are normal for that age. Also, you have to factor in that this girl has been dead for over 20 years then she is pulled into the present day. Anyone who lived in the early 1990’s knows how different things are and I can not imagine having to face all of that change at once. So the fact that the author showed her struggles I appreciated.
There was a point where I was very confused by the story and I actually went back and looked at the blurb to see if I really missed something. But I kept with it just to see where we were going with it and I am happy that I did. Things get explained later in the book you just have to wait for it.
I am interested to see what happens next now that we know everything that we do. This could get very interesting.
Whilst there were a few technical issues for me, with this book, an interesting and well paced plot meant that overall this was an enjoyable read and one that left me wanting to jump straight into the next book in the series.
I loved how the author built this world for us without it feeling as though we were subject to a large information dump. It perhaps isn’t the most detailed world building I’ve seen, but it was still pretty decent and allowed me to build a good mental picture of Nadira’s world. Personally I would have liked a little more detail on the present day Children of Orion organisation. Thankfully it didn’t impact on my enjoyment of the story.
The author used some excellent foreshadowing to hint at future revelations, and I have a suspicion there is much more to learn about Nadira’s situation in future books. Overall I really liked her, she sometimes seemed to make immature decisions, but given the whole situation it wasn’t surprising that Nadira struggled at times. There were some engaging secondary characters that I can’t wait to get to know better. This book very much focused on the main protagonist, developing those secondary characters would add extra depth and interest to the story.
I actually had a couple of books on the go at the same time, one which was an arc on a deadline. Sadly the arc wasn’t “speaking” to me, and I found myself returning to this and wanting to read it instead. This Time easily held my attention throughout the entirety of the book and it’s definitely one I’m happy to recommend to those who enjoy Urban Fantasy.
The awesome cover for This Time does not foreshadow the terrifying opening pages. Are you claustrophobic? Afraid of being buried alive?
Nadira is a warrior, a demon hunter, but there is more than meets the eye to her since her resurrection.
Humans and the supernatural world existed side by side. Would they live to regret it? Can you ever trust a demon?
Is she their secret weapon?
Jamie is a character I quickly became enamored with. She takes all the abuse Nadira heaps on her with a smile on her face. She wants to be her friend. She’s got her back whether she accepts her help or not. I become more and more curious about her and what will become of her. I love when an author creates a minor player that becomes as important to me as the main character.
This Time was a nice surprise and a bit different kind of demon/human and other supernaturals in a battle between good and evil. Nadira is a fascinating character and, while I wonder where she will end up, I feel she couldn’t get there without Jaime.

I went into this book not knowing what to expect, because I don’t read much in the urban fantasy/romance genre. So I was pleasantly surprised when the story gripped me from the get go, and held my attention throughout! I had to make myself stop reading at one point, just so I wouldn’t fly through the whole thing too quickly, since I was enjoying it so much.
There were definitely some adult themes/language I’d rather have done without, or at least not have gone into detail about, but I understand that comes with the genre (again, a reason I don’t read it in much), but apart from that, I found the book to be a wholly fantastic read. From the shocking opening to the dramatic ending, I was utterly absorbed in the twists and turns of the story. Whenever I thought things might slow down, the author threw in another twist – cleverly foreshadowed right from the very beginning.
The writing was the raw, passionate style I’ve started to come to expect from some indie novels, and it worked very well in this type of story.
I loved Nadira and all the little details about her locs, and I appreciated how well rounded of a character she was. “This Time” is definitely a must-read for fans of the urban fantasy/romance genre.
great read
A unique and complex story involving a strong and resilient female main character dealing with a new world with things not the same as she once knew. Full of action, drama, romance, mystery, suspense, secrets, betrayal, and conflicts, this well written story and its well developed and intriguing characters kept me totally involved. Surprising twists & turns left me wondering what in the world was going to happen next. All in all, a super awesome urban fantasy.
Brought back to life after 25 years, demon hunter, Nadira Holden finds the world has changed and she is not sure how she fits in. Story is well written and full of twists and turns. Both good and evil characters are interesting and add to the development of this tale. The ending twist will leave you reaching for the next book.
A young woman who’s been raised as a demon hunter wakes up buried in a grave yard, only to discover she’s been dead for 20 years … and that’s just the first of the things she never knew about herself.
A well written urban fantasy with lots of action, interesting characters, a villain you’ll love to hate and just enough loose ends to make you anxious to get hold of the next story in the series without leaving you with frustrating cliffhangers.
I enjoyed this one and would love to find out what happens to Nadira and Roquelle and just what unfinished business they’ll have to resolve with the hunky demon Derek.
this book was really great! she has always been a demon hunter than paid the price one day. now brought back to life years later. things have changed. read to find out why
This book is not my typical read but I figured I’d give it a go. The characters and the world the author created is believable and very well detailed. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys this genre and I did enjoy trying a new genre and author.
I will start by saying this is not my typical genre BUT that is no reason to take away from the author’s wonderful writing of this story. Should you like monster and demon stories this is a must-read. Characters are well described (both good and evil). Great plots with twists and surprises you may not be ready for. Well written story by this author.
I was very caught up in this story.
When circumstances beyond our control change everything. How we respond to those changes makes a huge difference. Without knowing details. Some being deliberately kept from us. Others slowly remembered. How would you react? Myself likely much as Nadira does.
This Time started off slow but interesting, and with a lot of information. Besides the slow start, it was paced rather well and the action helped to keep it going. There was one part where it stumbled a bit and felt like the story didn’t know it’s own direction but that quickly resolved. The world building was great and I really enjoyed how the characters were developed. Nadira is kickass! Overall, This Time is a unique and enjoyable quick read.

3.5 stars
This Time wastes absolutely no time diving into the depths of a strange and unknown reality, where demons and humanity appear to be coexisting within the same reality. We’re introduced to this world by Nadira Holden, who wakes in a casket, digs her way out, only to find out it isn’t some horrible joke; she has been dead for 25 years, and a lot has changed since she was a demon hunter, and, you know, alive.
Watching the story unfold was an interesting experience. Nadira has to deal with a lot as she adjusts, or at least travels through, a world that isn’t her own. Past loves, friends, and even ideas seem to be turned on their heads, and digesting that is one of the largest tasks that Nadira has to wrap her understanding around. Not only has the world changed, but the hunters, who were so dedicated to defeating the demons, have changed as well, and there seems to be some disagreements in the ranks. Nevertheless, once Nadira finds that her father is missing, she’s willing to brave all of it to find him.
Add to that the strong currents of possible motives of the people around her, and the world at large, and what you are treated to is an action-packed tale of a woman finding her place in a world that had completely changed, and had moved on, leaving the grave of Nadira Holden as it forgot about her. Turns out, that was the world’s mistake!
I have to say that I really enjoyed my glimpse into the world that the author has created. Seeing all of it through Nadira’s eyes helped, as we were both on the same footing, traveling through the plot. There were a few spots that dragged, but overall, a good read if you’re looking for some urban fantasy.
Nadira is resurrected after being killed by demons. As a demon hunter that is part of the job, but now she faces a new world in the future. She struggles to deal with it, but her skills are needed. I enjoyed the story, it was well written and I liked the main character. I would definitely recommend it.
This Time by Azaaa Davis is an incredible debut novel. Azaaa’s world-building is fabulous. It’s so in-depth and meticulously crafted. The characters are solid and believable. As for the storyline, it draws you in and keeps you reading “just one more page.”
I found the premise of demons and demon-hunters to be intriguing but not caricatured. The author is able to pull empathy from you for many of the leading characters, whether they are good or bad. How true that we all have those traits inside us. Just like Nadira, we don’t know what we are capable of until we have to protect family, friends, or even our world.
Book one wraps up its story completely but drops a bombshell leading to book two. This aspect was very well done.
I’m looking forward to reading the next books in the series. I would recommend This Time by Azaaa Davis to lovers of paranormal, fantasy, and other-world adventure.
