The second in New York Times bestselling author duo Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner’s sweeping science fiction Starbound Trilogy is an unforgettable story of love and forgiveness in a world torn apart by war, a “sci-fi Romeo and Juliet” (Booklist). Jubilee Chase and Flynn Cormac should never have met. Whereas Flynn is leading the rebellion against the powerful corporate conglomerate that make their fortune by terraforming uninhabitable planets across the universe and recruiting colonists to make the planets livable, and rule with an iron fist and unrealized promises.

**spoiler alert**
From the beginning of this novel I was rooting for Jubliee and was invested in her story. The authors did well developing a strong female protagonist, while still allowing her to be vulnerable when it fit with the story line. Flynn’s story was also intriguing and I felt heartbroken when his people shunned him. I really appreciated that Flynn did not abandon Avon and that he did not choose Jubliee over his family and friends. I think too many YA romance characters choose love over everything else they value in their lives and I have never seen this as something people should strive for or as realistic. Who really wants to read about someone who abandons everything they love for someone they just fell in love with? Lastly, I really liked that the authors brought back Lilac and Tarver in this book. I’m glad they weren’t too intertwined with Jubilee and Flynn’s story, they were mentioned just enough to make the story interesting, but not so much that it felt like a continuation of their story. Overall, a stunning sequel to a pretty good book!
This is second in the Starbound series, and I recommend the entire trilogy. It’s young adult sci-fi and I couldn’t have enjoyed it more (as someone who has been adulting for more years than not). I appreciated the romance woven into the stories, the action, and the way the authors never lost the thread of their plot through three books. I am glad I read them back to back to back because I might have lost the thread even if they didn’t.
This book is an amazing sequel to the first in its series. Its plot weaves in perfectly with the first and third books of the series! Definitely recommend!
I really liked this book. It had the perfect balance of romance to action. Although, I was confused at some points in the story, I was happy overall when I finished reading it. The authors did an excellent job.
As the second book in the series, I expected this one to be less compelling than the first, but it so wasn’t. I was entranced! I really, really loved this story and the characters. The world-building was so unique and interesting. Avon, a marshy world in the early days of its terraforming, and totally clouded over, had me wondering what the heck went wrong there. I’ll admit that the world itself affected me, so it was a good thing I read it on the beach in the sun because if I had read it at home in the winter, I would have been SO DEPRESSED. You need a good dose of Vitamin D to get past wet and cloudy Avon. I loved the characters too, Jubilee and Flynn. Their relationship felt natural and real, even with the circumstances it began under.
