USA Today Best Selling Author, Willow Winters, brings you an all-consuming, sizzling romance featuring an epic, anti-hero you won’t soon forget. Some love stories are a slow burn. Others are quick to ignite, scorching and branding your very soul before you’ve taken that first breath. You’re never given a chance to run from it. That’s how I’d describe what happened to us.Everything around me … us.
Everything around me blurred and all that existed were his lips, his touch…
The chase and the heat between us became addictive.
Our nights together were a distraction; one we craved to the point of letting the world crumble around us.
We should have paid attention; we should have known that it would come to this.
We both knew it couldn’t last, but that didn’t change what we desired most.
All we wanted was each other…

This one is a tough one to rate. I was expecting Marcus’s story, but what’s included shifted more toward Cody and Delilah’s building relationship. Obviously, the author has a plan. She always does and it often leaves me flipping the page super fast. But I didn’t feel that inner gut twist I usually do when reading this one. It was close, but not entirely there.
The story is divided into two parts, the first half being what was part of the prequel which had previously been released and what I had already read. The second part was what was actually new in this book. And while it was full of tension, suspense, and had me wanting to find out what happens next, it didn’t include enough of Marcus’s role in this story. Yes, he’s here but he’s still in the shadows, teasing the reader as he peeks out on rare occasions. That one kiss scene sent shivers down my spine, but it wasn’t enough.
This was a piece of a story. And while I expected the pickup where the last one left off and the cliffhanger at the end, this story piece was morsel size. For its length, I would rate this one about a 3. But for the part of the story that was actually new, it’s definitely somewhere between a 4-5. So I am rounding up to 4 because the writing was excellent.
/I received an early edition of this book. This did not affect my opinion of the book or content of my review./
“I’ll be her hero this time.
The hero gets the kiss.”
Oh Marcus.
Marcus and Cody. It’s all still a mystery and the suspense is killing me.
We know one of the cross brothers (Declan) knows who Marcus is.
Marcus revealed himself once, and Declan said something like “You?!”.. as If he knew him. “
“Declan’s slow to turn and face me and the recognition lights up in his eyes and his expression turns from stone to one of confusion and then quickly betrayal” – A quote from book four in the Hard To Love series.
It’s literally the last page of the book
Believe me, I keep notes in my phone about this entire world that Willow Winters has built for us. LOL
We also know Cody knows more about him.. ugh. Y’all.
The mystery of my man Marcus is intense.
I actually love Cody. I hope he gets his own story as I feel Delilah and Marcus are meant for each-other… right?
Five stars. This entire world that Willow Winters has built for us is just simply amazing. It keeps you wanting to read, it keeps you on the edge, there is mystery, theres steam, and there’s so much fight and passion between characters it’s unbelievably good.
Eek! I’m excited for part two!!

Willow Winters surprised me with this dark romance filled with mystery and suspense! I had no idea what this book would be like and I was pleasantly surprised because it is not your typical romance. Ms. Winters did a great job of keeping the reader intrigued and on the edge of their seat.
He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you. -Friedrich Nietzsche
I always say a book blurb can sell a book and that is exactly what happened here. The blurb for this book had me intrigued and wanting to know more. Before reading this book I was unsure what it was even about because of how cryptic that summary was. It was a perfect way to draw a reader in and make it so they had to know more. I had no idea whether I wanted her to be with Cody or Marcus. Usually it’s easy to know who the main couple are but that was not the case here.
There was an unspoken deal, a bit of camaraderie between us. I’m not the one who changed things. What happens next is his fault, his doing. Not mine.
I learned that readers first heard of Marcus in the Merciless Series. I don’t believe it was needed to read them first but I may have been at a disadvantage not having some background. While I do love a good anti hero, the fear Delilah has of him and all the terrible things he has done made it a little hard for me to understand her feelings towards him. That is not saying I was not intrigued to see if more happens between Marcus and Delilah.
“Monsters are real and the one named Marcus was the worst of them.”
Cody and Delilah are both in similar positions. While they fear who Marcus is they both have this connection with him. Cody more so and I need to know more about him and Marcus’ history. I cannot tell if Cody really has feelings for Delilah or if it’s just their bond with this case that makes them want to be close to each other.
“You said you’d let me go,” I whisper, speaking over my strangled breaths. My gaze never leaves his, even as tears prick my eyes. Not until he answers me. “I changed my mind.”
We are left at the end of this book on a cliffhanger and it feels like torture. I have so many questions and I am anxious for the next book to hopefully get some answers. Willow Winters did an amazing job with this riveting slow burn romance. She will leave you begging for more and we only hope we won’t have to wait too long. Great job Willow Winters!
What a tangled web she weaves. W. Winters has delivered the next installment of Marcus’ story.
The first half of this book is the short prequel of Do You Want Me?, where we meet our characters for this series, Agent Cody Walsh, Delilah Jones, and Marcus. As we see glimpses of how these three know each other and are entwined with one another, then the author packs a punch with the second half of the book in This Love Hurts. Here, we start to see how Marcus has the ability to control everything around him and others as he sees fit. So the suspense of what is happening to Delilah and Cody and even Marcus is at every turn of the page. And of course we are left with questions waiting for the next installment to this sure to be epic saga.
Who is Marcus? That’s been the question on everyone’s mind since he was introduced in the Merciless world. He’s the anti hero that knows and see everything. Now it’s his turn with love but it doesn’t come easy. Betrayal, suspense and intrigue. You can’t put this book down. Cody and Marcus and Delilah keep you on your toes!! I can’t wait for the next book and maybe we will finally learn who Marcus really is?
Well that was unexpected!!!
I’ve read many books in the Merciless World by Winters. Throughout the books there are two characters who are repeatedly involved but remain very mysterious. The great detective Cody Walsh and the ghostly figure known only as Marcus have remained illusive…. until now. Well sort of……
Cody enters into a casual relationship with lawyer Delilah. They’ve worked together for years and have avoided taking things further, until now. She runs into trouble (Marcus seems to be involved in some capacity, but how exactly is a mystery) and Cody offers to help her out. Delilah soon discovers things that will rock your world!!! This book is not what you think it is! It’s even better than I imagined!! You will actually be left with even more unanswered questions, but who doesn’t want more of this world? I’m hoping she writes fast because that cliffhanger is killer!
You do not need to read any of the other books in the Merciless series to read this. You will however want to read them all after you read this one and get pulled into this unpredictable world.
W Winters has written another amazing addition to her Merciless World collection. This Love Hurts, which also includes the prequel Do You Want Me? centers around the lives of Delilah, Marcus, and Cody. It is a story of a love that could be versus a love that shouldn’t be.
Delilah, an attorney, has dealt with all the raw emotions that cones with the job. She’s fierce in the courtroom but yet she has a weak side to her. That weakness shows up when Marcus is infiltrates her thoughts. She knows she shouldn’t want him, but yet she does. But then again there’s Cody.
Marcus is well know within the mob world, actually he owns it. He is ruthless but yet protective of Delilah. He knows what he wants and has no problem getting it.
Cody, an FBI agent, has a connection to the devil himself, Marcus. He also has feelings for Delilah which seems to create tension between he and Marcus. His secrets and heartbreak from the past haunt him but it’s too late to turn back now.
This Love Hurts will consume you mind, body, and soul. The emotions, well written storyline, and the depth of the characters will capture you and never let you go. W Winters has written a love story that has many moving parts. Each part works in-sync with each other to create multifaceted characters and storyline.
I highly recommend adding This Love Hurts to your literary collection. A warning for those who don’t like cliffhangers. More is to come on the lives of Delilah, Marcus, and Cody with the upcoming release But I Need You, I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are of my own accord and were not influenced by the author or her promotional team.
Marcus is still a mystery. I really enjoyed the prequel or part 1 of this book but part 2 while filled with suspense slightly missed the mark for me. I’ve been waiting for Marcus’s book for a long time like a lot of other people and was super excited to read it. However I would not say that this is his book. It’s rarely focused on him and when it is it’s not about any kind of relationship with Delilah. If anything this is a book about Delilah and Cody’s relationship that happens to occasionally talk about Marcus. None of the characters are written in Marcus’s perspective either. Still a good book but not the book I thought I was getting. Hopefully the next one in the series will have more Marcus.
OMG. I hope this series never ends. It’s that awesome! This is the second book in Marcus’ story. The triangle between Cody, Delilah and Marcus begins to heat up in this book, but the mystery surrounding who Marcus is what makes this book so exciting to read. Marcus is elusive but watches over Delilah, so we’re left to wonder what their connection is to each other, as well as the exact connection of Cody to Marcus. The heat in this book comes from the mystery behind Marcus and the indescribable pull between Delilah and Marcus. I can’t wait for the next book! I highly recommend reading the entires series, starting at the beginning of the Merciless World. Willow is a master at connecting the characters of each book in the series, and making each character’s story one you can’t put down!
Who. Is. Marcus? The question we all have been asking pretty much since the Merciless series began. We still don’t have the answer but are so much closer to finding out! Is he truly the monstrous villain we thought before? This book is full of suspense, angst, drama, lies, secrets and questions, I need more!! I had goosebumps throughout most of this book! W. Winters delivers another brilliantly told story!
Ooooh Willow, Willow, Willow….you have smashed this!!!
I don’t know where to start?!?!…the mysterious, infamous Marcus has finally come to light and oh man, do I want me a Marcus!!!!!
Throughout the Merciless world / The Cross Brothers saga, we hear of Marcus, aka Ghost or the Grim Reaper – he’s always hidden, he’s mysterious, he’s dangerous with a capital D and oh jeez, I want more!! I NEED his story!
Cody and Delilah are also part of this story – Cody and Marcus both want Delilah and I admit…sometimes I envy her but sometimes I’m afraid for her!
Willow doesn’t just write a story, she invents a world that you feel part of, you become invested in the characters, you feel what they feel and I love it!!!!!!!!!
Super excited to read more!!!!
*I voluntarily received an arc from the author and this is my honest review.
What a fantastic read! Willow Winters outdid herself I loved the fact that I was on the edge of my seat from page one until the very end. This story was a roller coaster which gave me so many feels. This book was a romantic suspense and I really enjoyed it.
I loved these characters and their passion for what they want! I loved Cody’s desire to help and take care of Delilah and Markus oh Markus…I loved his bad boy, I don’t care personality.
Willow Winters writes really good books and this one is no different. I cannot wait for more of this series!
I had built up Marcus (and even Cody) so much in my head, I was honestly a bit worried he wouldn’t live up to my expectations, that Willow wouldn’t be able to do him justice.. boy was I wrong! It was almost impossible to stop reading once I began. This book was everything I expected and so much more. I’m such a sucker for a good anti-hero and he definitely takes the cake! Can’t wait to see what Willow thinks up next. Readdddd this book world! It’s too amazing to pass up.
This Love Hurts is intense, and suspenseful read that kept me engrossed from start to finish. All the characters have a air of mystery about them, and that makes them even more puzzling. I really don’t know what to think? I know Marcus is still a engima, and I can’t wait to delve deeper into this story, and find out why? I really need But I Need You now after that shocker of a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to see where this story will takes me next.
I’m hooked. I need to know exactly who Marcus is. Walsh knows more then anyone about Marcus and now Delilah is involved. I’m not sure who I want too root for Cody Walsh or Marcus. I can’t wait too read what happens next.
Another great read.. I was not able to put it down once I started it.. I really need more..
