She hates him.He loves getting under her skin.Travis King is the worst kind of ahole. He taunts me for being a good girl and mocks my high standards. He’s cruel, crass, and has enough confidence to last two lifetimes. And I hate him.It wouldn’t matter so much if he were avoidable. But considering he’s my older brother’s best friend and roommate, I see him more than I’d ever want to. His sculpted abs … roommate, I see him more than I’d ever want to. His sculpted abs and gorgeous eyes are wasted on such an arrogant man, which makes me hate him even more.
Even though I’ve had a crush on him since I was ten, the feelings weren’t mutual and he’s made that very clear. He’s always loved getting under my skin and one night against my better judgment, I let him in my bed. I’ve succumbed to his manwre ways, but that doesn’t change a thing.
Because the King is about to get played at his own game—and lose.
Checkmate, King.
This is book 1 in the Travis & Viola duet and must be read first. Suggested for mature readers only.

Love this book
OK, I think I just found my new book boyfriend, Travis!!! I know, I have been a bit of a “Book Boyfriend Floozy”, but it SO HARD to remain faithful, when I just keep reading about these HOT BAD BOY jocks & rock stars!?! I mean, really?!? What am I suppose to do?!?
I really enjoyed this book! I know that I’m “late” starting this series but I’m SO hooked NOW!! The love/hate relationship that V & Travis had was funny, hurtful at times, but you knew it was going to be hot as HELL when they finally slept together (around page 270 or so)! The reader knows the hidden truth behind the “act” they portray to each other, so we are patiently (or losing our damn mind) waiting for them to do the “dirty” deed!?! If I had not already been in a constant state of lust from reading about Travis’s physical DESCRIPTION—MAN…Travis…was just the type of book boyfriend I like!!! He “talked the talk” and delivered…over & over again!!!!! If you are looking for a hot & steamy read, then I highly recommend giving this book a try!!!
This is one of those books that you know exactly what was going to happen (except for the ending) but you still can’t put it down. Definitely a hot read and not for the faint of heart. Even with the switching of characters throughout the book it was never confusing and flowed very well. I can’t wait to see where the next book takes us.
I wouldn’t rly recommend it but it was an enjoyable read
I absoutley LOVE this book! Once I started, I couldn’t stop. I read all the book in the series. They’re sooo good and keep you on your toes. So romantic and exotic. Definitely a must read.
Great read with decent character development and build up. I recommend it.
Great read but make sure you purchase the second book as the story continues…
This book is part one of two in the Checkmate Duet. It’s the story of Travis King and Viola Fisher and it has a cliff hanger, lots of sex, lots of love-hate chemistry, angst and drama. These features usually deter me from reading it but this one grabbed my interest from the first word to the last and I immediately downloaded part 2, i had to know the outcome…
Travis King and Viola Fisher were friends and neighbors until she turned 13 and overheard him telling her brother, his best friend, she was just a pity friend. That broke her heart and then seeing him go from girl to girl in high school just made her hate him. Then as a man he becomes a tattooed, cocky, man-whore and that just sickens her. Travis always has had feeling for V, but her turning her back on him as kids with no explanations just hurts to much so while she openly hates him, he pushes her buttons and tells her how nerdy and prudish she is.
Spring Break has arrived and she decides to stay at her brothers and Travis’s place for the 2 weeks. But her brother decides to take vacation and go see his girlfriend which leaves these two enemies alone together. A game of up-man-ship ensues and words lead to pranks and then to touches and kisses. V is still unsure of where she stands and tries to leave her heart out of this affair and knows it may be just to late for that. Travis has had her, they have cleared the air and he knows he has to prove himself to her but work is getting in the way. So, a late night drive ends up in an accident with another woman in the car just has us asking, WTH??
I loved this series. I loved the characters, the backstory, and the connection. This book was mind numbingly good from the very first page to the very last. A hot and steamy hate war between a princess and a king. Who will turn out on top or in this case on bottom.
