Viola Fisher is the epitome of perfection. She despises my one-night stands and mocks my less-than-classy habits. She’s smart, beautiful, and too good to be true. And I want her. If she were anyone else, I’d have made my move years ago, but considering she’s my best friend’s little sister, she’s always been off-limits. Not to mention how much she loathes my very existence. Hating me is her religion, … sister, she’s always been off-limits. Not to mention how much she loathes my very existence.
Hating me is her religion, but needing her is mine. Her sexy curves and filthy smart mouth make me want her even more, and I’m more determined than ever to change her mind.
I’ll prove I’m done playing games.
But until then, we’ll continue to play by her rules.
Viola Fisher may have won the battle, but the war isn’t over yet.
Checkmate, princess.

Can I just say I absolutely LOVE this book! I have read it and now got the privilege of listening to the audio. Lia Langola is Amazing! She does such a great job with both male and female roles. I can Still say I ABSOLUTELY HATE MIA FU**ING MONTGOMERY!!! I’m so excited to read Courtney & Drew’s story and I’m really hoping Mia gets what’s coming for all the crappy things she’s done.
This book sent me on a roller coaster of emotions. I was angry, I was happy, I was exasperated, I was in love. There was a bit of a twist I didn’t see coming, which I like. Viola is a girl after my own heart, with her love of all things Harry Potter and books. It was hard to watch her lose trust in our King. But it was all worth it. I loved the end of this story for this couple. I also really enjoyed the narration on this duet. Lia Langola’s “man voice” is very good. The steamy scenes are of the quality over quantity type in this one, since they spend some time apart. Overall I really enjoyed it. The ending though, Wow!
I don’t even know where to begin with Travis and Viola!!! They are simply amazing!!! This conclusion of the duet was done beautifully and I love how it all came together at the end. And to hear the book come to life with audio made it so much better!!
Travis stole my heart and he is such an amazing character. Viola is such a strong character and she doesn’t take any of the crap. She is the perfect match for Travis King!!
********AUDIO REVIEW********
As with This is War, Lia Langola did a phenomenal job narrating. I don’t know if it is because there were more characters in this story vs This is War but she really brought life to the characters. She can transition from male to female to giddy female to growly male and not miss a beat.
This is the continuation from Travis and Viola’s beginning. In This is Love they are experiencing what a relationship would be like for them and just when it seems they are getting the hang of things something goes wrong….Viola gets an internship offer across the country, Mia “F’ing” Montgomery makes another appearance, and Drew finds out about Travis and Viola. What never changes is Travis’s love for Viola and his loyalty to his princess. He will do whatever it takes to be with her forever. Can their love withstand six months on two different coasts? If you have ever read any Kennedy Fox books then you know the answer that question. This is a great beginning to a six book series.
This is book 2 in the duet and picks up right where the first one left off. I enjoyed book 2 a lot more than book 1. The characters both did a little growing up and didn’t fight the entire book. This is Love is a quick, easy read. I am looking forward to Drew and Courtney’s story as well.
Fantastic Story & Narration TravisViola!
Checkmate: This Is Love
The Checkmate Duet: Travis & Viola, Book 2
By: Kennedy Fox
Narrated by: Lia Langola
I loved Travis and Viola’s story it is a great enemies to lovers romance and so much more. I enjoyed Kennedy Fox’s writing style, the storylines and characters she created were interesting and swept me right in and captivated my attention from start to end. I wound up binging on “The Checkmate Duet: Travis & Viola”, starting with “Checkmate: This is War” and what a start it is. Travis King is Viola’s older brother’s roommate and best friend. At one time they themselves were tight but that was when they were younger. Viola still crushed on him but hated what he did to her, torment, tease and get under her skin anytime he could. She started to give just as good as she got. This is one angsty story, they continually pushed each other’s buttons but then something gives and it turns into something more. The chemistry between them is undeniable, it is smoking hot and it is real. I loved how everything plays out in this book, there is never a dull moment with plenty of drama, angst, some twists, some laughs, lots of emotions and some hot romance. This ends in a cliffhanger so be sure to have the second book “Checkmate: This is Love” in hand because you are going to want to know what and why. Sorry, no spoilers here but I will say, Kennedy Fox does not disappoint she continues to bring it in the second part of Travis’ and Viola’s story with more drama, angst, twists, lots of emotions and some more hot romance. I am looking forward to the next Checkmate Duet in this series, Drew and Courtney’s story, I adored those two. Kennedy Fox, thank you for this great book and the emotional roller coaster ride
I listened to the Audible edition, Lia Langola is a terrific narrator and voice artist. She did an amazing job portraying the characters and bringing them to life, giving each their own voice and personality. You could hear how much heart she put into her work as she captured and projected the characters emotions into her performance. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen
“Checkmate: This Is Love” (nook) picked up where “This Is War” left off (that’s good). I was quite happy that Viola and Travis had a HEA. Overall the story was good. However, I felt that the ending was drawn out more than needed.
Loved this duet.
Loved it. The surprise twist was great! Great character development. Travis and Viola grew up a lot over the course of the two books.
Wow. This one is as good as the first part. I am just glad Travis didn’t let Alyssa any where close to him after he found what a bitch she was. Viola is one strong, smart and funny woman. I don’t know how she manage to leave Travis for 6 months, she a better woman than me. I was so proud that Travis never strayed while she was gone. This was a wonderful conclusion to this set. Thank you for the wonderful story.
I hate a cliffhanger so after reading the first book Checkmate: This is war I had to purchase this one. Especially after reading the first few chapters on Amazon.
I love how Viola and Travi’s story continued. I often find with books that stories never quite wrap up well enough for me. I always feel like I want to know a little bit more about the characters’ stories and what comes after. Thankfully, Kennedy Fox delivers that for Travis and Viola with this book.
Of course, Travis and Viola’s antics will never end but that’s what makes them lovable characters. We get to see the wicked friendship between Courtney and Viola continue! Although I would have liked to read more about Viola’s life in Boston, it seemed to be glossed over with on the important bits included.
Likewise, with this book, there needs to be a bit of an edit. Again I found several occasions where the syntax was incorrect. This is incredibly distracting from the story.
I’m a sucker for this world they’ve created as I’m currently reading Checkmate: This is Effortless
Absolutely loved this book, it had me laughing a lot and even crying a little. Can’t wait to read more from this author!
This book is the conclusion to Travis & Viola’s love story. The ending from book 1 left us hanging with the mystery of why Travis was with Drew’s ex Mia during the car accident? Viola puts her faith & trust in Travis, believing nothing happened between them. I love how Travis finally realizes what he feels for Viola and does whatever he can to prove to her that he is all in. But just as Viola decides to meet him halfway a bombshell is dropped by Mia and Viola is now left with a broken heart. Can Travis find a way to win Viola back? A great ending to Travis & Viola’s story!
I am dead.
Kennedy Fox has murdered me.
I cannot function now after reading this duet. Because I am dead.
If you want to experience all the feels, the emotional roller coaster the authors put the reader through, then read these books. DO IT.
That is all.
Absolutely loved this book Travis and Viola are perfect for each other
The second book was good. I liked the dynamic between Travis & Viola. I liked how they are trying to keep the relationship that shifted from pure hate to something else from Drew- which builds up tension & stress… I love how Travis changed some of his ways because of Viola. Of course, when tensions are high, and secrets are kept, something is bound to happen… And it does. In the form of Mia- Drew’s on-again-off-again girlfriend (who we met in book 1). She gets to push Drew & Travis apart, which also results in a riff between Travis and Viola. I loved that scene- so full of emotion!
4.5 out of 5
The way we were left with book one I was dying to jump into this book and see what happened. Travis & Viola are still one helluva team but I just want to scream at them for keeping Drew out of the loop. Their arguments to keep the illusion of what they want everyone to believe are still alive and kicking but when they’re alone together it’s absolutely amazing. Just when you think Travis can’t get any sweeter he takes it to the next level. I love how this story develops and I was squeaking with excitement at times. Courtney and her over the top Crush on Drew has me cracking up with her comments. This is such a great read I loved every minute.
2.5
h: Viola
H: Travis
(Dual POVs)
Let me start off by saying, the hatred and intensity that overflowed from the first book in this duet isn’t really present in this book. I understand at some point, the enemies have to turn into lovers but I just felt like these two lost their snarkiness towards each other in this book. I thought it was a bit silly that Travis didn’t immediately explain the circumstances of how he got into the situation at the end of the first book. He’s given the opportunity to explain himself but instead, he asks Viola to simply trust him. I did understand how this decision played a part in the plot though.
There was a chunk of the book that felt really hard for me to get through, but I was curious enough to see where the book was going and the writing was easy to read. Eventually, things started to pick up a little for me and I liked the turn this book took! I enjoyed watching Travis step up and change for what he wanted.
As a huge potterhead, I was ecstatic over all the Harry Potter references throughout this book!
