Kayla Sinclair is a saint and real life Angel. She wears her heart on her sleeve and inspires me to be a better person.Rescuing dogs, feeding the homeless, volunteering at the local food pantry are just a few of the ways she gives back to others, although no one has ever been there for her. Falling for her was inevitable, losing her will destroy me. Letting someone in didn’t come easy, but she … someone in didn’t come easy, but she made me want to try for the first time in years.
Her bubbling personality and kind spirit make it impossible to forget a girl like her.
But when tragedy strikes and she loses all memory that our relationship ever existed, my worst nightmare comes to life.
I’ll do anything to remind her of the love we shared. I know it’ll be an uphill battle, but I won’t walk away without a fight. Whoever said all is fair in love and war never played by my rules.
Checkmate, Angel.
*Recommend for ages 18+ due to sexual content and adult language.*
**This is book 2 in the Logan & Kayla Saga–a second-chance romance. Must read This is Dangerous first. However, you don’t need to read any of the other Checkmate duet series to enjoy this one, but is always recommended as they are both introduced in the earlier books.**

This book was everything! It brought the checkmate characters full circle for me! To finally read Logan and Kayla’s story was absolutely everything I hoped and more! I’m definitely buying this whole series in paperback! It was such a great read that I couldn’t put it down!
My heart was in pieces with the cliffhanger in Logan and Kayla’s story and have been dying to get to the second half. There wasn’t a second of disappointment while hearing the conclusion to their story, there was however a lot of heartbreak for Logan. I felt it for Kayla too don’t get me wrong but I just felt more of a connection to him through this part. This man devoted his time, patience and his whole heart to Kayla every second I could feel how determined yet beaten he felt. If I was able to I would had their story glued to me and would of finished it in one sitting no matter how long it took. I absolutely loved it and of course towards the end there’s the biggest grin on my face. It’s sad to know that this particular series is ending but we’ve met all of these wonderful characters. I will undoubtedly be following these two authors for their future workings in the book industry. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
Kayla wakes up from her medically induced coma after a brutal knock to the head. She has zero recollection of Logan, but is attracted to him. Logan’s pain tore me up like no other. Watching him as he waited for her to remember him tore me apart.
Grab your tissues and buckle up for the ride of your life.
This is the second book of Logan and Kayla’s journey. The story picks up right where it left off. Overall it was a beautiful story that gives all the feels and a wonderful conclusion for their story.
This is Beautiful is the conclusion to Logan and Kayla’s duet and the sixth and final book in the Checkmate Series. It picks up right where This is Dangerous left off: Kayla waking up from a medically induced coma after a head injury with no memories of the last two years—or Logan.
After finding out that Kayla had been in a relationship with Logan before her accident Kayla feels like she owes it to both Logan and herself to give their relationship a do-over. Kayla’s heart and mind are at war though and it doesn’t go unnoticed by Logan, who can feel her holding him at arms length. Throw in some suspense and an ex that won’t quit and you’ve got Kennedy Fox’s signature recipe for a 5 star read.
Logan has to be my favorite main character of this series. I feel like Logan showed the most growth as an individual and partner. He went from closed off and determined to avoid relationships at all cost to in love, no holds barred. When Logan loves, boy does he love—HARD. And Lia Langola captured every ounce of emotion for Logan so perfectly. This was her best narration of the series in my opinion.
Although I’m sad to say goodbye to the three Checkmate Series Duet couples, I can’t wait to see what else Kennedy Fox has in store for us!
Book 6 in the Checkmate series and book 2 in Logan and Kayla’s duet and it was a great end to their romance and to the series. The journey to love that Logan and Kayla embark on will pull at your heartstrings and have you rooting for them to get their HEA. Lia was able to really bring out the emotions that Kennedy Fox was able to convey through their words. Loved this entire series I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to be taken away to a world of wonderful storylines and characters that will make you wish you know them in real life.
The love story of Kayla and Logan continues but they have hit a roadblock as they find out that Kayla’s physical injuries after the accident were much easier to heal than her loss of memory for the last two years. Her body remembers Logan, but her heart doesn’t which leaves her confused and wondering where they go from here.
Now that Kayla no longer remembers him, he regrets all the time that they lost before they became a couple and he kept pushing her away. He has been advised by her doctors that he shouldn’t give her any information she doesn’t remember, and he is devastated that he will lose the one woman who will always hold his heart.
Kayla and Logan take us on an emotional and suspenseful journey as they try to deal with the past she doesn’t remember and the past that Logan can’t forget. The narrators did a great job at bringing out the angst of the story and the characters.
The title is exactly what this story is.
“This is Beautiful”
Gah, I can’t describe how this book tore at my emotions. It gave me just great feelings. I was pulled into this quickly and melting instantly. So amazing!
Kennedy Fox knows how to make their stories extremely heated while pulling at your heart strings and surprising you.
Logan and Kayla have officially been bumped up to my number one favorite couple.
These two will steal your heart and never give it back.
Loved this!
This is the sixth and last book in the Checkmate Duet Series, and the second book in Logan and Kayla’s Duet. I love this Series. The story continues where the first book left off. Kayla is a beautiful character, strong, and caring. Logan is handsome, protective, and caring. They are perfect together. Skylar, Logan’s daughter, is such a cute kid. The storyline is emotional, and sweet, filled with twists and turns. I loved to follow Logan and Kayla in their journey to love. It was great to see again the characters from the first books, and this is a beautiful conclusion to this amazing Series. Lia Langola did a fantastic job with the narration. Looking forward for more books written by Kennedy Fox!
Audiobook Review:
This book definitely took me on an emotional roller-coaster. I felt my anxiety level rising as the book continued and the incidents that happened in the end of This is Dangerous continued. I felt so bad for Logan. He was so clearly affected and I was just desperate for something to happen to fix things for them. The moment that changed everything for the better was perfect. It was emotional, and sweet, and just perfect. It kind of made everything that came before worth it. I was certainly happy for that because the angst was killing me.
Lia Langola gave another fantastic performance for this one. She really does have one of those voices that makes it hard for me to miss having a male voice for the guy chapters. I really have enjoyed her during this whole series. She did good accents and great energy and passion and emotion all when needed. I look forward to more books from her in future.
Overall another great story from Kennedy Fox and I am excited to try more from them.
After all the tension, Logan and Kayla finally have their duet! Kayla has been lusting after Logan Knight for a while and Logan can’t deny his feelings for Kayla anymore.
Logan is a single father and a detective for the Sacramento PD. Logan has been building walls around himself for years after coming back from the military and getting divorced. Kayla has had a hard life growing up but she tries to make the best out of her life. She has a successful career and volunteers as much as she can.
I loved Logan and Kayla so much. They had been through so much and still found each other. Their romance starts as a slowish burn romance because they are dancing around their feelings. But once they get together, it’s hot and steamy. You’ll probably end up turning up the AC while reading or listening to this story. The Queens of Cliffhangers leave us with a jaw dropping cliffhanger that I can’t wait to dive into.
I listened to this story as an audiobook and Lia Langola is amazing per the norm. She is so talented as a solo narrator. She flawlessly goes back and forth between Kayla, Logan and all the secondary characters voices.
You must read This Is Dangerous first! This was such a beautiful conclusion to Kayla & Logan’s duet. I love how instead of focusing on getting her memories back, the priority was to create new ones to cherish and let her fall in love with him all over again. Kayla is my favorite of all the Checkmate duet couples and this was the perfect ending to the series. The audiobooks are performed by Lia Langola, who always brings the characters to life perfectly!
Best of the Series!
Five golden, angsty stars for this final part of the Logan and Kayla duet, which closes out the Checkmate series.
This. was. the. best. Logan and Kayla fought so hard to even make it as a couple, and were beyond beautiful together when tragedy struck. Logan had already shown what a man of strength, honor, and grit he was in the previous novels. But this one, Sweet Sunday Mornings! His character is so gentle, patient, and kind while still harboring that amazing protector quality Kayla needs (whether she knows it or not). This man has White Knight DNA.
I love that the author didn’t take the easy way out of this story line, which would have made it trite and sappy. Instead, these characters stayed true to who they were and fought– again– for themselves. This wasn’t a roller coaster ride of emotions, it was cat 5 hurricane.
Beautiful. Just beautiful.
*review for audible version*
The second half of this duet and it put my heart through the wringer. So freaking angsty, I didn’t think I would be able to make it through. My heart was hurting for Logan and Kayla, just uncontrollable tears streaming down my face. Their situation is one that I don’t think I could ever have had the strength to endure. So many moments that broke my heart and then so many that made my heart feel full.
The last duet in this epic series and I’m sad to leave these characters and their world. It couldn’t have ended any better. Love always wins in the end.
The conclusion to Kayla and Logan’s story was definitely beautiful. The twisted cliffhanger from book one was like a telenovela! Kayla loses her memory!!! That was great move on the Kennedy Fox’s part because now it forces Logan to fight for what he has always wanted and thought he never deserved. In book one we see Kayla do the chasing, but in book two Logan gets to put his heart on the line to help the girl he loves get her memory back and fall in love with him all over again. This story pulls you in from the start and never lets you go. This book was angsty, cute, steamy and the perfect conclusion to Kayla and Logan’s story. All questions are answered and we get to revisit some of our favorite characters from the previous duets.
As with her other narrations, Lia Langola wonderful narration of this book captivated me. It was phenomenal and she did a great job narrating dual POV bringing both Kayla and Logan to life. It was easy to fall into the story and not get lost in the who is who with Lia’s narration She is an entertaining storyteller and has become one of my favorite female voices to listen to!
Checkmate: This is Beautiful by Kennedy Fox book 6 in the series is probably my favorite of all. The way Logan’s reserve finally crumpled…the connection that him and Kayla…the passion…the tragedy. It’s all too much to not love their love story. Their tale is not one of tradition nor is it for the faint of heart. It’s full of heartache and at times I wasn’t sure if I could keep listening to it but I managed and I am so glad I did. Their secrets could be their undoing…or it could bring them closer together. But if they don’t share them…well then we will will never know. I received a free advanced copy on audible to listen to and review. I love to read books but having the ability to listen and drive or clean or anything is oh so nice. So get your copy now lovelies.
AUDIO BOOK REVIEW
Logan and Kayla’s story is one of my favorites of this series! I’m sad that listening to the Checkmate Duets is over because I just love all these couples stories.
Lia Langola is by far one of my favorite female narrators and she does such a great job narrating both the female and male characters.
I have read all of these books in this series but I love being able to listen to them in the car when I am driving. Since it has been a while since I read them it was nice to catch up with these characters again. If you have a chance to pick up these audio books you should. It’s nice to be able to listen to them when you are needing something different then sitting down and reading the books. I highly recommend!
This is the 2nd book for Logan and Kayla. After the cliff hanger from the 1st book I was not sure how their story would play out. Gives you lots of feels, highs and lows. Keeps you on edge with the twists and turns. Lots of steam and a little kinky… Glad they got the happy ending they did. Another wonderful story from Kennedy Fox.
Once again narrator Lia Longola did a beautiful job on telling Logan Knight and Kayla Sinclair’s story. The 4.5 stars read was heart achingly beautiful! Logan and Kayla’s story gives hope to second chances after an unexpected event especially being in a new relationship with one another. One has memories of the past one while creating new ones is a challenge that they will face. It gives the saying “if it was meant to be it will be” to a whole new level. It was the perfect conclusion to the series.
This is Beautiful is the final book in Logan and Kayla’s story, as well as the final book in the checkmate series and what a ride it’s been. Following on from the cliff hanger in This is Dangerous we pick up with Logan at the hospital trying to come to terms that Kayla doesn’t remember the last few years of her life or the people in it including him.
The story progressed as I expected in a sense that Kayla would have to fall in love with Logan all over again but it wasn’t repetitive and it didn’t go quite to plan. Kennedy Fox brought some unpredictability, some human variation to a predictable storyline and they crafted the perfect story for Logan and Kayla. I love that we didn’t just get a repeat of dates gone by or a retelling of their relationship to the point of the accident. The journey felt organic and unforced and Kayla’s slow building emotions or lack there off surprised me.
My heart really hurt for Logan, what he goes through in this book pulls hard on your heartstrings; but at the same time you sympathise with Kayla too and losing that time from your memory and seeing evidence of the life you did have and don’t remember everywhere you turn must be tough. Despite the journey Hero and heroine take in this final book, of course everything works out and I was very happy with how this duet and the series as a whole turned out. Once again Lia Langola did a phenomenal job narrating the audiobook. She really understood Logan and Kayla’s emotional journey and portrayed it perfectly.
