A luminous novel of a powerfully intuitive young girl’s coming-of-age in a small, Midwest town in the late 1960s. Eleven-year-old Grace Carter has a talent for hiding things. She’s had plenty of practice, burying thoughts and feelings that might anger her strict Evangelical pastor father, and concealing the deep intuition she carries inside. The Knowing, as Grace calls it, offers glimpses of … offers glimpses of people’s pasts and futures. It enables her to see into the depth of her mother’s sadness, and even allows Grace to talk to Isaac, her twin brother who died at birth. To her wise, loving Aunt Pearl, the Knowing is a family gift; to her daddy, it’s close to witchcraft.
Grace can’t see into someone’s thoughts without their permission. But it doesn’t take her special talent to know that her small community is harboring its share of secrets. A young girl has gone missing. Within Grace’s own family too, the cracks are widening, as her sisters Hope, Joy, and Chastity enjoy the normal life that eludes Grace. It’s Grace’s kinship with other outsiders that keeps her afloat—Lyle, a gentle, homeless man, and Lola, a free-spirited new girl at school. But when her mother lapses into deep depression after bringing home a new baby, Grace will face a life-changing choice—ignore her gift and become the obedient daughter her father demands, or find the courage to make herself heard, even if it means standing apart…
“A heartfelt and beautifully crafted coming-of-age debut…Don’t miss this one.”—Lesley Kagen, New York Times bestselling author

I could hardly put this book down. The theme of religious superstition is a favorite of mine, and I am a Christian . It’s been two weeks since I finished the book, and I think about the characters every day. My only critique is that I would have had it end differently, but that’s just me.
I LOVED this book. I read it in two days. I couldn’t put it down. The main character is so engaging. But other characters in the story are wonderful as well. They are three dimensional with endearing qualities and less than endearing qualities. I don’t want to give any spoilers except to say that you should read this book.
I might have viewed this book differently if I didn’t personally know a man who had this ability.
Fascinating premise and unusual main character.
I loved the main character of this book and the theme of a child with clairvoyance. The conflict of this with her parents religious ideas made for some thoughtful discussions.
I love this book! Could not put it down.
I liked reading this story. It was an interesting twist to who people could be and what makes them tick.
This is an amazing book about love, individuality, acceptance and our interpretation of God. Simply wonderful.
This book made me consider what unknown capabilities human beings might have and the problems created when they become recognized by others.
I loved this heartwarming story!

I enjoyed this novel because of its original point of view. I was slightly disappointed that Grace’s talents weren’t more developed and used, but, perhaps, I was being unrealistic. Overall, I recommend this novel to everyone who can keep an open mind.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I loved the characters and the plot.
This I Know is one of the best books I’ve read in quite awhile. I can visualize this becoming a coming of age movie or series. It’s well-written, heart-warming and compelling. I felt utterly charmed and inspired by the main character.
I loved this book. You will fall in love with the main character. It’s a very touching story.
I love Eldonna’s books!
What a beautiful book. I enjoyed the humor, as I was brought up a church environment much like Grace, including The Look and the pinch in church. So much love from the heart in this book. I couldn’t stop reading; it just drew me in from the beginning and deepens my faith in God’s love and His gifts to us.
This I Know is a fantastic novel. This inspiring story is about Grace Carter, who is a preachers daughter who happens to have the gift of seeing, also known as clairvoyance. This does’t bode well with her father. You will absolutely fall in love with Grace, I know I did. The author does such a fantastic job with Grace’s character which is quite complex and endearing. The story is well thought out and really grabbed me from the beginning.
You don’t want to miss this story or this author, I anticipate I will be reading many of her books in the future .
An easy to read book with a pleasant story. It tells of a young girl and her struggle to fit in. She has something she calls the knowing. This is her ability to see a person’s past, feelings, and future. The problem is her extreme thinking Baptist minister father believes it is the devil! What she does, is become friends with other people who are considered unacceptable. The ending of the book is ambiguous. Overall a pleasant story.
It seems lately that so many new books are so similar. Everyone wants to jump on the same currently popular genre bandwagon. I just want to thank author Eldonna Edwards for stepping out of the box and conceiving a story that is unique…original…and stirs up all the feels.
I loved Grace. Her personality, her heart, her gift of clairvoyance. And her courage to stand up for what she believed and what she knew to be true.
Do yourself a favor – take a refreshing break from the usual and read this wonderful debut novel. Today.
This I Know is a beautiful coming of age story! Grace is eleven years old and has “the knowing” or second sight. Grace’s father is an evangelical preacher and believes Grace’s knowing is close to witchcraft. I LOVED reading Grace’s story! Highly recommend!
