She’s desperate for a new life in the Canadian mountains…He’s the last person she should trust to get her there. After her husband’s death, Rachel Gray is finally free from the turmoil his addictions caused. She wants nothing more than a new life with her twelve-year-old son. If she can reach her brother in the wilderness of the Canadian territories, they’ll have help to start over in peace. She … have help to start over in peace. She knows better than to put her life in the hands of another man, but she never expected the Montana mountains to be so treacherous. When two brothers invite her to join their small group traveling to the same area, she refuses. After she and her son narrowly escape a bear attack, she’s forced to admit they need the safety of numbers in this untamed land. If the men prove dangerous, she can always leave with her son and strike out alone again.
Seth Grant has made some bad choices in his life, but God healed him from the addiction that mired him in his sins. Now, he’s determined to live the life God called him to, starting with a journey northward to see the Canadian mountain both his brother and sister have fallen in love with. When he discovers the woman and boy who plan to travel the same mountain trail, he can’t fathom why she refuses to join in the safety of their larger group. Though her decision seems unwise, he has no other choice but to pray God provides her protection.
Despite Rachel’s best efforts, she can’t seem to fight her attraction to the Seth—until a secret from his past proves he’s not at all the man she thought. When a new peril threatens her son’s life, she must choose between trusting in what she can control, or the man who her heart says is trustworthy, no matter his previous sins. The path she chooses just may determine whether she can step into the new life God has in store for them all.

This timeless adventure captivates readers with the hardship, treachery, and undeniable splendor of the mountain wilderness. Rachel Gray is one fierce mama bear. Her wisdom, caution, and determination make her a force to be reckoned with. Seth Grant is a truly redeemed former bad boy. He proves his gentle patience, generosity, and authenticity in a solid, steady, purposeful quest for Rachel’s trust.
Beller brings the mountains and her genuine characters to life. Each new installment of the Heart of the Mountains series has its own personality and challenges yet each is equally entertaining and heartfelt. I highly recommend this story and anything written by this author!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions expressed are my own.
I’ve loved every one of Misty M Beller’s books. With the Heart of the Mountains series, all of the books are a long journey through treacherous mountains. This is book 5 in the series. Each of them have been a unique story. This one is no exception. The back stories of the hero and heroine play a prominent place in the story. The effects of the past is a strong element that keeps them apart. I really loved this hero, as well as the heroine. Secondary characters all helped the story move at a good pace. As usual, I had a hard time putting the book down when it was necessary.
I highly recommend this book.
Oh yes!! Another GREAT story by Misty Beller. Family’s, love, danger, lots of mountains and great scenery (just wish there was a movie so I could see all that!).
Another captivating read by Misty Beller. This fifth book in the Heart of the Mountains series follows Simeon and Noelle’s younger twin brothers as they traverse the mountains of Montana Territory to reach their family in Canada. Surprisingly, this book takes place during the warmer months and not during the winter, like all the previous books in the series. The book can definitely be read as a stand alone, but I’m sure you’ll want to go back and read all the other books to familiarize yourself with the entire family once you’ve read this one. If you love historical romance, you’ll definitely enjoy this book and the whole series.
Misty Beller has a way of bringing the rugged outdoors of the West in the mid 1800s to life and painting a story filled with adventure, love of friends and family, romance, second chances, and God’s gift of grace onto this beautiful canvas. Seth is a healed man from his past of addictions and mistakes and wants to start a new life in Canada. Rachel is a broken woman, hurt and abused by a husband who was enslaved by his own addictions. Samuel, Seth’s logical, calm, and quiet twin, and Rachel’s preteen son Andy round out the small group heading north and all four learn what it means to be a family as they travel through the wilderness.
I’m hoping for more books in the series to get to know all nine Grant siblings; just Simeon, Noelle and Seth are not enough! Maybe next book will be about Samuel?
I was given a copy of the book from the author/publisher via Celebrate Lit Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
Can she take a chance on him?
Another sweet historical romance from Misty M. Beller set in the wilderness of Montana and Canada. As with the previous books in the Heart Of The Mountains series I enjoyed the relatively small cast of characters in This Homeward Journey. With that smaller number you have more of a chance to get to know them, especially the hero and heroine, which is something that I like.
This Homeward Journey is a fitting title as it pretty much describes the storyline in three words. It’s a fairly quiet story punctuated with some exciting moments and life threatening danger. This falls in line quite well with listening to this fifth book in Misty M. Beller’s Heart Of The Mountains series.
As alluded to above I did listen to the audiobook of this novel. As with the previous books I found the production and sound to be top quality and I absolutely love the narrator. Her quiet voice and gentle reading style are perfect for the historical romance genre and have made her one of my favorite repeat narrators. Overall, good story and a wonderful narrator!

Christian Historical Romance
Another brilliant story written by Misty and narrated by Leonor. I can’t find anything that could be improved upon except maybe another chapter or two!
Learning to Trust
This is, I believe, the second I have read of these intertwined but standalone stories of pioneering and the incredible everyday hardships faced by travelers and settlers. No convenient (albeit filthy) gas station toilets nor available snack shops, nor airconditioned conveyances. Just the routine drudgery of planting and cleaning or perhaps walking long hours behind the wagons in the dust or riding vast distances through dangerous terrain. Our heroine has come west with her son to find her brother in the Canadian mountains, running from the tragedy her life has become and hoping to find peace. Seth has left his own demons behind in California, seeking, with his twin brother, their siblings. Strongly faith based, they find positive reinforcement when they give themselves into God’s hands, relying on Him to guide their own. I had the pleasure of enjoying Leonor Woodward’s strong narration.
I LOVED this addition to the “Heart of the Mountains” series! Seth and Rachel’s story was so intense and engrossing. I loved the dynamics and the emotional charge within these pages.
The adventure along the journey tests the characters and keeps them on their toes, while at the same time teaching them that trust and change are not always impossible or bad.
I loved the setting, descriptions, and the way the secondary characters lent an added layer of depth to the story.
“This Homeward Journey” is an excellent addition to this series and one of my favorites so far! Ms. Beller is an AMAZING author and I just can’t seem to get enough of her writing! I hope she continues dreaming up new stories and look forward to reading them for a long time to come!
Thank you
A good read. Full of action. I like Misty Beller

I appreciate how patient and understanding the men are. Good examples of Christian men.
Without a doubt this is a 4.6 star book. I reserve 5 stars for over the top exceptional, but this comes fairly close. I would definitely encourage one to read it.
I’ve read all of her books I’m a real fan.
A memorable book, I finished it quickly. I have read several books by Misty Beller and highly her books.
This Homeward Journey
Heart of the Mountains, Book 5
By: Misty M. Beller, Author
Narrated by: Leonor A Woodworth
This Homeward Journey is a beautiful love story! I love this series, each taking us on the path to a new life and finding love on the way. This adventure we meet Rachel and her son Andy, who are traveling across Canada to stay with her brother. The death of her husband left her with a mess to clean up and she is ready to start her new life. She begins traveling with Seth and Sam, twins also going to their siblings house, figuring it would be safer, but will Rachel’s heart be safe? Rachel is a great character. She is independent, persistent and very careful. Always checking the motives of those they meet along the way, she is determined to be safe. Seth is a warm and loving man. He sees right into Rachel’s heart, but now he just has to see how to win it. Their journey is long and action packed. There is danger lurking! I loved Rachel and Seth’s growing relationship. Based on trust and faith, these two have a chemistry. Andy is a great boy and adds a lot of fun to the mix, leaving Sam who is a little more jaded than the rest. It’s a great story, full of fear, hope, redemption and love.
Leonor A Woodworth is always a pleasure to listen to. I love her voice, it’s very soothing and has a quality that makes me feel like coming home. Her performance in this story gives us an array of characters from the four main to grunting Indians! It’s a wonderful listen!

First time reading this Arthur but really enjoyed this book!
To tell you how much I loved this book–I immediately ordered all of the others in the series! Story telling at its absolute finest! I sure hope there are more! The protagonist decides to WALK to Canada through the mountains with her 12-year-old son. Because of an abusive marriage, she trusts no man. Then she meets twin brothers Seth and Samuel, who do their best to prove to her that all men are not alike. Fantastic story! I will definitely read more from this author!
I just can’t get enough of the Heart if the Mountain Series books by Misty M. Bellar. The most recent release, This Homeward Journey, did not disappoint.
Meeting Simeon and Noelle’s younger brothers Samuel and Seth was such a treat. As they journey to reunite with their siblings they are joined by Rachel and her son Andy. Rachel so strong and yet so vulnerable and her 12 year old son both afraid to let others in and craving the love and security that comes with a strong faithful relationship.
Their journey is frought with adventure and danger and the growth of friendship and love. Misty winds all of these together with a skill that keeps you turning pages in anticipation leaves you wanting more.
I can hardly wait for the next book and look forward to reading about Samuel’s continued journey.
