USA Today Bestselling BookShe’s never left her home in the mountain wilderness of the Canadian Rockies—until now. Little did she realize this journey would change her life in every way.The mountain wilderness of her family’s home in the Canadian Rockies is all Hannah Grant has ever known. Now at the age of twenty-four, she’s on a journey to help her father to find the son he gave up for adoption … her father to find the son he gave up for adoption three decades before. This is Hannah’s chance to discover the life she’s missed out on so far—and hopefully find a husband along the way. But she certainly doesn’t plan to fall for the first man she meets.
Years in the cavalry provided Nathaniel Peak with more than his share of violence and adventure. That life behind him, he wants nothing more than to settle down in the beautiful Montana mountains and raise his own stock—in peace. The last thing he expects is the savagely wounded child who shows up in his barn. Nor the woman he comes to rely on for the girl’s care.
Hannah can’t help but fall in love with the brave Indian child who so desperately needs her, but no matter what, she can’t let herself fall for the man whose past choices go against everything she believes in. As the situation grows worse, Hannah and Nathaniel are forced to make a heart-rending decision to save the girl’s life. Little do they imagine, the choice they make could spell disaster for them all.

I’ve loved every book in Misty Beller’s Heart of the Mountains series. There is so much to love in this book. Of course, her characters are well-developed. There always are unexpected dangers. And romance. This book also took us back to an unfinished event in one of the early books. I loved that. You won’t want to miss this one. I highly recommend it.
“But what if’s don’t matter at the end of the day. You made the choice you felt was right, and God worked good from it.”
The title of the book says it all. This final installment of the Heart of the Mountains series indeed is a healing journey. After having met and fallen in love with many of Simeon’s extended family in this series, we now circle back to Simeon from the very first book as he sets out to search for his infant son Reuben whom he left behind in another couple’s care thirty years ago. With her beautiful descriptions of the wilderness and fluid writing style, Misty Beller will once again set you right in the heart of Montana Territory in 1880 as she lets you see, hear, taste, smell, touch, and feel with the characters. Since this story involves Simeon and his past, it would be best to read This Treacherous Journey (book 1) first if you haven’t yet to understand Simeon and his relationship with Emma and her daughter Hannah. The whole series is quite delightful and I recommend reading all the books in order.
Reuben, now a man with a wife, spends his days happily ranching his deceased father’s land and taking care of his ill mother without having a clue as to his past. He is completely taken aback when Simeon, his wife Emma, and their daughter Hannah come looking for him and share their reason for finding him. Simeon and Reuben’s reunion is emotional, heart-rending, and beautiful. But there is more to this story than a long lost father and son bonding! Simeon and Emma’s daughter Hannah meets Reuben’s neighbor Nathaniel as he starts out a new life after leaving his years in cavalry. Hannah is a capable frontierswoman and well-versed in wilderness life, looking for a husband outside of their secluded location in Canada. Their attraction is immediate but their friendship/relationship is fraught with uncertainty and doubt, enhanced by their shared care of an injured Indian child, and threatened by those bent on revenge and harm.
If you enjoy historical romance set in the wilderness of the west, you will absolutely love this book and the entire series. I can’t wait to read Misty Beller’s next series!
I received a copy of the book via Celebrate Lit Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
Christian Historical Romance
I think this was the best book I’ve listened to of Misty’s! And Leonor narrated it superbly!
It’s a journey neither expected…
Well, it’s over. Seven books for me and twenty-five plus years for the extended Grant family. It’s time to say goodbye. This Healing Journey is the conclusion to Misty M. Beller’s wilderness themed historical romance Heart Of The Mountains series and the story has come full circle. Our heroine is on an emotional journey with her parents as they try to find the son that her father gave up after the tragic death of his first wife. She just never expected to find her hero at the same time.
This Healing Journey is one of my favorites from the series and not just because of the solution to the mystery that has intrigued readers/listeners from book one. No, I liked it because Misty M. Beller takes the story in a little different direction than in the previous six books. Instead of being a book-long trek through the wilderness much of the story takes place at the hero’s fledgling ranch. This time the heroine is the one who is wilderness-wise. And the journey they do take is one of the most suspenseful in the Heart Of The Mountains series. One nice thing that hasn’t changed is that t he cast of characters is still pretty small and easy to follow, which is perfect for audiobook listeners such as myself.
Speaking of the audiobook, it was excellent. Once again the narrator gives a stellar performance and really brings the story to life. The audio quality is also very good making it a seamless and entertaining listening experience. If you love historical romance but don’t have time to read I would definitely recommend this audiobook and the entire series.

Well written and very interesting.
This was a good book. The journey to find a son that turns into a wedding of your daughter. Hannah is not a women to look past. She has inner strength that is just what is needed when Nathaniel find a small little girl wounded in his barn. Between him and Hannah’s family they do the best they can for tiny Itu. Then add in her people and this book was interesting.
It kept my interest from beginning to end. It was a beautiful demonstration of true love.
This was a great story of how different races can get along.
This story reminds us how difficult life and love were in the early years of this clash of two views, two cultures, two purposes. Yet, it is a child who brings it together. A lovely tale of romance, compassion, and new friendships.
Faith and Inspiration
Each of the tales I’ve read or listened to (ably narrated by Leonor Woodward) has involved travel (a journey!) and is interrelated to others in the series by virtue of extended family, but each story stands alone and complete. Largely set in the mountains in the Butte, Montana, and southern Canada region, we endure the rigors of winter, the ordinary hardships and isolated lives led by the settlers, and the uneasy peace with the local native tribes. In this story, the blossoming romance is almost incidental to the main plot involving a very young girl’s life-threatening injury. Faith is tested but remains strong as folks lean strongly on their beliefs and rediscover their ties to God. Note: although clearly focusing on a Christian viewpoint, the text is neither preachy nor oppressive but, rather, inspiring.
This was a heart warming story about people who care enough to help someone they don’t even know, and therefore developing relationships that will last a lifetime – a good example for us all.
It was a good story and I think it is a very good read.
Loved the characters
This final book in The Mountain Series definitely stands on its own as I have not read any of the other books. The characters are strong and the story is well written giving the reader an idea of how life in the early US west might have been like facing obstacles of life such as finding land, then making an actual home to live in while forging for food, dealing with the elements including weather, wild animals, finding friends and … a real shortage of choices for someone to marry. This book addresses it all in a beautifully woven story that involves a man, a woman and a beautiful little Indian girl.
Pioneer man starts a new life of ranching, after leaving the war. Finds a small injured Indian girl in his stable. His new neighbors help him care for her.
Great story and adventure.
Loved it good story line and great ending…
So meaningful and expressing good human qualities.
It was a fun, easy read.
I loved this book. It was well written. I was fully engrossed.
Misty M Beller is a great storyteller and I have enjoyed reading ‘This Healing Journey’ immensely. I love the detail that she includes in her stories and the depth of emotions. Thoroughly enjoyable reading experience.
