THIS DOESN’T HAPPEN IN THE MOVIES
A wannabe private eye with a love of film noir and detective fiction.
A rich, attractive femme fatale.
A missing husband.
A rollicking ride to a dark and daring ending.
This is a fun pulp fiction mystery. I like that the characters are from the pulp fiction era without the whole “whiskey drinking PI” who just lucks out. Reed Ferguson actually puts the clues together and solves the case using his brain and wits. Fun characters with enough “family” situations included that it also has that touch of cozy mystery …

If you’ve watched ‘old-time” detective movies and loved them, then you’ll want to check this book out. Or you could collect all the books in the series and have a binge-reading fest.

Great detective book! It is wryly humorous and fast paced with original plot twists. Detective Reed Ferguson accepts his very first case and what a lulu it turns out to be — a missing husband, a drunken, lying wife and a company of hit women. What could possibly go wrong?

I like the querky characters and unique voice of the author. Have read other titles by this author and enjoyed them as well.

I received the book when I subscribed to the author’s newsletter.
I quick and very good read I did in one sitting. From the first page, you are hooked to the book. I think Humphry Bogart would have been proud to be the inspiration of the main character dream to be an investigator.
The adventurous investigating that had me guessing right to the …

Brand new Private eye, Reed Ferguson takes on his first case when sexy Amanda walks into his office looking for help in finding her missing husband. Oddly she doesn’t seem all that upset. Turns out she’s simply checking the boxes after reporting him missing to the police. From there Reed’s investigation leads him to a criminal organization, X …

Do read any of Renee Pawlish’s Reed Ferguson Private Investigator series. They can be read in order starting with this one, or stand alone, though reading them in order is more fun & you get to know Willie, Reed’s girlfriend, and find out if he ever pops the question! You’ll also get familiar with the nuances of all his helpers.
Reed solves …

A good, very good in fact, quick read. A mystery noir, not in any way offensive or too violent ( after all it is a mystery) about a PI who wants to be Phillip Marlowe or SamSpade. All of the author’s books are fun. Thy one and see.

This was the first Reed Ferguson book. It was set up well, and held my interest throughout. It was good enough to pique my interest in the series. Later books and even short stories have helped to flesh out the characters so you get a better sense of Reed, Willie, and the goofball brothers.

A true page turner! Impressive characters. “Reed” is a wonderful film noir buff, who dreams that he himself is a little like “Bogie.” Well, considering he solved his first Private Detective case-apparently he does resemble his favorite movie characters after all. This was a great book, full of surprises and twists. Totally enjoyed!

Entertaining film noir read, reminding me of many of the old “B” movies I’ve been watching since my youth. Now if we can get someone to write a series like “Yours truly, Johnny Dollar” in the voice of Bob Baily, the best Johnny Dollar, we would have a great radio noir collection to read.

Funny characters, interesting plot, great ending. Thus is why I read books in the first place! I’m glad that I picked an author out of the blue. Lucky me
