A Love Forged in the Fire of Revolution.
The American Colonies, 1776. As the flames of revolution spread across a divided land, a shadowy figure prowls the streets of Philadelphia. Known only as Jack Flash, rebel highwayman, he preys on aristocrats loyal to the British Crown. The unpredictable outlaw always manages to elude his foes, until the night he targets a Loyalist lady whose fiery spirit could spell his doom.
Alexandra Pennington has her future well planned when a chance encounter turns her world upside down. Betrothed to a dashing king’s man, the young widow tangles with an unrefined rebel fiercely opposed to British rule. Against all reason, she finds common ground with an enemy of the Crown. The sensible course for her is clear, but her bond with the notorious rogue will test her loyalty not only to her king but also to the man she vowed to marry.

Readers’ Comments
“I’m a big fan of historical novels, but they tend not to be set in this particular time and place, i.e. The American Revolution. So, not only did I enjoy this novel in terms of the romance and the cleverly plotted story, I also learned a lot.” Female reader, aged 44
“This felt very much like a sweeping saga, a sort of Gone with the Wind type novel. I must say, it’s very well written; simple, not overly flowery, and the primary and secondary characters literally jump off the page. With plenty of fighting and an ample supply of romance, this is perfect for a reader who enjoys character-led novels.” Male reader, aged 56
“It seems to me the author knows what she’s doing and, most importantly, knows what her readers enjoy. The pacing is excellent, the characters complex – but never overly so – and the setting is well-described and authentic. I would happily read another book by this author.” Female reader, age 69
To Sum It Up:
‘A superbly plotted historical drama filled with twists and turns. A FINALIST and highly recommended!’ The Wishing Shelf Book Awards
Finally a meaty, long, factual historical fiction novel. Great characters, setting, and action. I don’t need or want bedroom scenes in my historical fiction, but these were well written. Very much enjoyed the historical detail.
A novel so well written that the characters and history become real
Alexandra seems to have everything settled in her life until an encounter with a rebel highwayman turns her world upside down. Her troubles begin right as the opening turmoil of the American Revolution heats up.
Gretchen Jeannette does it again. This book, like all her others, kept me reading late into the night! You will feel transported to another era; the author’s descriptions of the people, the settings, the desperate battles, and the life of the times are excellent and well-researched. You will experience fancy balls followed immediately by the horrors of the battlefield, all of which will take your breath away. The unpredictable plot thickens with twists and turns, romance and adventure, good versus evil. Through it all, the characters’ actions pull you into their personalities until you come to either adore or despise them.
What is there not to love about a book that has everything? Electrifying battle scenes; wholly intriguing characters; a sensual, enthralling romance; political differences; an intense rivalry, a magnificent stallion; and loyalty and love in abundance. Oh, and a highwayman named Jack Flash who will steal your heart. The climactic ending will leave you deeply satisfied, though I doubt you will see it coming.
Ms Jeannette’s storytelling shines in this wonderfully romantic tale that will grab you from the start and never let go. I highly recommend this book and anything else this gifted author has written.
