The only hope to keep her newborn baby alive is to reach the safety of her Indian people… This mountain man is the last person she should trust to get her there. As a half-Indian raised among her Peigan tribe, Moriah Clark knows better than to trust white people. The tragedy that resulted in her birth is proof enough. But when her trusted grandfather marries her to a white man, she has no choice … to a white man, she has no choice but to obey and hope this new life isn’t her downfall. Her white husband turns out to be a decent sort, but his unexpected death left her to birth a newborn baby among hostile mountain men. She wants nothing more than to retreat to the safe haven of her tribal upbringing. When a mysterious frontiersman arrives on her doorstep seeking her deceased husband, his offer to escort her and the babe to her people seems like the opportunity she’s been praying to find. But can she trust him?
Samuel Grant has been sent to retrieve Henry Clark for his sister’s wedding, but the sight that greets him at the little cabin in the woods is not what he expected. Not only has the man died, but Henry’s wife is fighting off an aggressive gang of men at gunpoint—while trying to conceal a newborn. He can’t leave the pair unattended, so helping her travel into the mountain country to reach her family seems like the only option. If he can win her trust, that is.
Such a grueling journey with a three-week-old baby will be risky, but the challenges that arise test them far more than either expected. When a devastating surprise increases the danger ten-fold, Moriah focuses all her efforts on keeping her newborn daughter alive. Maybe that’s why she doesn’t realize how much of her heart belongs to the mountain man—until it’s too late.

Another winner by Misty M. Beller! This book is full of action, adventure, love and faith. The way this book is written you feel all of the emotions and can “see” everything happening. Just be warned, once you start reading you won’t be able to stop. I highly recommend this book and the entire series.
This is book 6 in the Heart of the Mountains series and this book picks up directly after book 5 where we are on the journey with Samuel Grant. He is in search for his soon to be sister in law, Rachel’s brother Henry Clark. He happens upon a cabin in the woods which he is guessing belongs to said Henry but there are men there and he can tell they are up to no good. Once he discovers it is a woman they are trying to gain access to he comes to her rescue.
Moriah Clark has been on her own for a while and has prayed for help. Could this man be who God sent to help her back to her people? Moriah and Samuel along with Moriah’s young daughter Cherry, begin their journey in the cold wilderness. They have trouble along the way as well as learn to trust and love one another. To survive in this wilderness you must learn trust in both God and the man you are falling for.
This story is so inspiring. I felt for Moriah, I loved Samuel and was so happy we get to visit with the entire Grant family again and see how a families love can conquer all. We also get a new person to love along the way. I love how this author gives us such details that you feel like you are there with the characters and can see what they see and feel what they are feeling. That is talent to take you there without pictures.
I received an early copy to read and review and give my honest opinion. I loved this book. I highly recommend it as well as all the others in this series. You do not have to read the others first to enjoy this story but they are all so good you will want to.
I love this series of books. Once I start one I can’t put it down. This is my favorite time in history.
This was another great audiobook I got to listen to written by Misty Beller narrated by Leonor Woodworth. The narration of this book was wonderful just like all the other ones. This book is a treacherous journey over the mountains with barely enough food and sickness and cold weather. I love that Samuel and Moriah are both strong characters. Many things happened that kept me on my toes to see how they were going to get out of different situations. And there’s a baby to keep warm and alive too but Moriah and Samuel are very determined to keep everyone alive and get to a safe place. This is book six and can be read alone. I have enjoyed each book in this series.
I received an audiobook from the narrator but was not required to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
How can he safely lead the woman and her newborn to her people?
My rating is 4.5 stars
Imagine traveling on a multiple day journey through the wilderness. In the Canadian Rockies. In the cold. With a newborn and a man you had never met. . . Without a map or GPS, and on an unmarked route!
This Daring Journey chronicles Moriah’s journey back to her people after the death of her husband. This amazing French-Indian woman had a strength and determination not often seen. The story of her tragic birth was hinted at enough to give the sense of what had happened and yet it wasn’t explained. I appreciated that the author knew that she didn’t need to go into more details than she did.
Samuel, who we met in This Homeward Journey, was determined to help this strong, yet fragile woman on her journey. I loved his protective nature and the way that he fell so quickly and completely in love with Cherry, the newborn.
I really like the way Misty Beller gives such a sense of place in her books. The details of the surroundings, the frigid temperatures, and the perils of the journey seemed very real.
Despite the dangers of the journey and the developing romance, a few parts seemed to drag a little.
I recommend this for lovers of historical fiction who do not require high action or intrigue to keep them interested.

I was given a copy of this book. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own.
Heart of the Mountains series continues with brave, compassionate Samuel Grant traveling to give a message to Henry Clark. Samuel finds Henry’s widow, Moriah Clark, and her newborn baby at the rough cabin. Moriah has not been treated kindly by whites and doesn’t trust this burly white man.
Moriah is a strong half white and half Peigan woman but knows she cannot stay alone and protect her baby. You will admire both Moriah and Samuel as they travel through snow to find Moriah’s tribe only to find them gone. Should they continue searching for her tribe or seek shelter with Samuel’s family? I have enjoyed all of the books in this series and recommend them to others.
It was interesting. Moved a little slow but I was interested in how it was going to end.
I loved this story – a combo of adventure, horseback travel, incredible obstacles, growing faith and, of course, romance. This author has a beautiful way of re-creating life on the 1800s frontier. She doesn’t gloss over the reality of how challenging life was back then but also reminds us of the natural beauty to be found. Moriah was my hero throughout the story. She survived incredible trials and faced them head-on, all the while growing in her faith. Her honesty and the deepening love between her and Samuel were memorable. This was my second Misty Beller book, and I am now a fan!
Another fantastic book from Misty Beller. The Grant family comes to the rescue of a newly widowed woman and her newborn daughter, Cherry. Moriah’s husband Henry has died, and Moriah must try to find her people again. This means having to traverse the Montana/Canadian wilderness with an infant. When Moriah does go home, she finds that her family has moved on–without a trace! Where shall she turn now? Don’t miss this one!
Loved it. Good clean Christian historical fiction.
This was enjoyable read. I like books that are a little unpredictable. This one kept me wondering what would happen and kept me interested.
This was a good ole fashioned story- easy reading.
I really enjoyed reading this book
Only ‘caveat’ I would offer is be prepared to purchase the succeeding books (at regular price, if you’ve purchased this book at a reduced rate). It’s a good story. It involves travel under harsh conditions and the characters do encounter ‘setbacks’ in addition to harsh winter weather. This author is an excellent ‘story teller’ and this has been the foremost selling point all the way back to the Blind Greek Poet, Homer of antiquity. I would encourage all who read to ‘take a chance’ – read this book!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book—the storyline & characters were believable!!! If you enjoy clean books that are pertaininng to the time when our great Country & Canada were settled you will find this to be an excellent read!!
Great inspirational reading and action-packed.
I adore the story-line and its lifelike characters. It was hard to say goodbye to them. They are so relatable. Kudos to the author.
Just completed this book and, while very few characters, it was interesting to see how they reacted to the present circumstances in regard to their past. A story of love, difficulty and second chances.
Enjoyed this book
Very good book
