The only hope to keep her newborn baby alive is to reach the safety of her Indian people… This mountain man is the last person she should trust to get her there. As a half-Indian raised among her Peigan tribe, Moriah Clark knows better than to trust white people. The tragedy that resulted in her birth is proof enough. But when her trusted grandfather marries her to a white man, she has no choice … to a white man, she has no choice but to obey and hope this new life isn’t her downfall. Her white husband turns out to be a decent sort, but his unexpected death left her to birth a newborn baby among hostile mountain men. She wants nothing more than to retreat to the safe haven of her tribal upbringing. When a mysterious frontiersman arrives on her doorstep seeking her deceased husband, his offer to escort her and the babe to her people seems like the opportunity she’s been praying to find. But can she trust him?
Samuel Grant has been sent to retrieve Henry Clark for his sister’s wedding, but the sight that greets him at the little cabin in the woods is not what he expected. Not only has the man died, but Henry’s wife is fighting off an aggressive gang of men at gunpoint—while trying to conceal a newborn. He can’t leave the pair unattended, so helping her travel into the mountain country to reach her family seems like the only option. If he can win her trust, that is.
Such a grueling journey with a three-week-old baby will be risky, but the challenges that arise test them far more than either expected. When a devastating surprise increases the danger ten-fold, Moriah focuses all her efforts on keeping her newborn daughter alive. Maybe that’s why she doesn’t realize how much of her heart belongs to the mountain man—until it’s too late.

If you haven’t read any books in this series, I would highly recommend taking the time to read each one. The story is full of adventure and danger as we get to follow Samuel on his journey. He is a strong character with survival instincts which come in handy as he faces trying to save Moriah and her new born baby. I loved how the author incorporated Moriah’s heritage and found it to be fascinating.
Moriah feels all alone in the world after her husband dies. She is a strong person and will do anything to protect her baby. Samuel and Moriah take off on a journey to reunite her with her people. They are in for some danger as they encounter wildlife, storms and caring for a new born on the trail. I could feel the determination in Moriah as she has to learn to trust God. It must have been hard for her to travel with a stranger but she knew if she stayed where she was, her and her baby Cherry would not survive. Samuel must show Moriah that he can be trusted and I really liked how he helped out with the baby when Moriah became ill.
The author has done an excellent job of making readers feel like they are on the journey as she describes vivid accounts of the wilderness . Their shelters along the way are just enough to help keep everyone relatively warm at night. I can’t imagine traveling with a new born in the wilderness and thought at times it was getting to Moriah. She tried so hard to hide her fatigue but Samuel soon discovers that she is ill and steps in to tend to the baby as much as he can.
The story kept my attention and I loved reading how Samuel was such a respectable man. His drive to get Moriah somewhere safe was admirable. I like camping but I would never last out in the cold weather that Samuel and Moriah encountered. At some point I think I would give up and go home. They had no choice but to travel on hoping to reach their destination soon.
I know if you like historical fiction, you will fall in love with this story filled with adventure, faith, trust and finding your way home.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
I did not pay enough attention when accepting this book for review to notice that it is book six of a series. Sometimes that means that I will be hopelessly lost without a clue throughout the entire book. I can thankfully say that was not the case with This Daring Journey by Misty M. Beller. It easily stood on its own merits and was a complete story by itself. I was mostly through the book before I encountered more than a mention of other characters who I assume were featured in previous novels. I was impressed enough by some of Samuel’s family and friends that I hope to have the chance to read the previous novels of this series.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel featuring half-Indian Moriah Clark who had no choice but to trust Samuel, a white man, to help her get back to her family following the death of her husband. A grueling story of survival, their journey consisted of one mishap after another that forced the pair to trust one another in order to stay alive as well as keep Moriah’s infant daughter safe. I loved the characters and how their relationship slowly but naturally developed, their strength of purpose, and Samuel’s strong integrity and protective nature.
This Daring Journey was a wonderful book and I will most certainly be looking for more books by this talented author.

This Daring Journey
The series continues with Samuel trying to find Rachel brother. Instead he finds his widow with a very young baby. They set out to find her family and the his family. Will the journey be smooth?
I love reading historical books. Especially ones with adventures in the wild. They have to hunt their food and sleep out in the wilderness. If anyone gets sick they have to find things in nature to help. Since lot of mountains they can only go by horseback.
The book kept my attention from start to finish. A fast reading book that anyone can enjoy.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher through Celebrate Lit. I was not required to write an positive review. This is my own opinion.
MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
Misty Beller was a new author for me whenI reviewed the first book in this series and I fell in love with her writing! And this 6th book in the Heart of the Mountain Series in my favorite on yet! Moriah Grant has been living in her cabin with her newborn baby for months after her husband passed away, but how much more can she take of these horrible mountain men trying to take her home. When Samuel Grant arrives with a message for her husband from his sister, Moriah decides she can trust him to help her and her newborn baby.
I love, love this story set in the Canadian Winter Wilderness. Misty Beller creates another cast of characters that quickly find their way into my heart very early in the story. Moriah is a determined woman ready to take on whatever she needs to do to survive. Samuel Grant wants nothing more than to help Moriah and her baby journey their way through the harsh wilderness to find her family. Even though the trip through the cold snowy wearther was harsh, I thoroughly enjoyed the journey with Samuel, Moriah and Cherry! I love the tender way Samuel was with Cherry, he had her spoiled after a few days. I also love the interaction between Samuel and Moriah. Even though they’ve couldn’t see it, or wouldn’t admit it, I could see early on that they were formig an attraction to each other.
There is so much going on in this book, but the plot always flows nicely and Ms. Beller kept on the edge of my seat most of the time and I could put the book down. In fact it took me less than a day to read “This Daring Journey!” Another thing I like an appreciate is how the author weaves the Christian life into her characters. By the end of the story, I feel like Moriah and Samuel are my friends, and it feels like I’m living the story with them! I highly recommend this book!
A copy of this book was provided by Celebration Lit Tours and the author for me to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions in this review are mine only.
This series is one of my favorites! So descriptive and the characters and action so real. Another story that takes us through the mountains but this time with a three-week-old baby. The struggles, trials, Indians and family made this another I truly enjoyed!
I was gifted a copy, no review was required. My review is voluntary.
Frontier stories remind us of a life that was at once more difficult and yet simpler.
But my favorite thing about frontier stories has to do with the way they tug on our hearts. See, there is a part of our hearts that remembers searching, journeying, isolation from people like us, the daily battle for survival. We remember it because spiritually, that is still our experience, even though for many of us it isn’t reflected in our physical lives now. The truth is that the loneliness of the frontier – sometimes good, sometimes bad – the hunger for friendships and relationships, that’s something many of us still feel. Frontier stories speak to our spiritual longing like nothing else. And I don’t know about you, but I still feel closest to God out in the midst of his creation.
A few weeks ago, I read Misty Beller’s This Daring Journey. I had to snap this one up, because I had really enjoyed This Courageous Journey a few months back. This one didn’t disappoint either. I loved the perspective of “half-breed” Moriah. Born from a mother who was abused by a white man, she resonates with us #metoo women and with the racial tensions that still plague our culture today, if in different degrees and different ways. I personally identified with her struggle as she realized that, strong independent godly woman that she was, she needed help. She couldn’t heal from delivering a baby (on her own, in the middle of nowhere!), protect her newborn daughter, keep them both alive, on her own. (Literally not enough hands!) I also loved the way Samuel falls in love instantly…not with Moriah, but with this tiny baby girl. I would definitely recommend this book if you love a good frontier story.
I received a review copy of this book; all opinions are my own.
Love this series of books. It can be a read alone book but it is nicer to read in a series
I adore everything about Misty M. Beller’s Heart of the Mountain series, and This Daring Journey continues the story of family and friends in Canada’s heartland. This story can stand alone, but it’s great to reunite with previous beloved characters, such as Simeon & Emma, Noelle & Daniel, Seth & Rachel. Having met Samuel in the previous story, which focused on his twin and ended with him riding off to find Rachel’s brother, I was eager for his time in the limelight. There’s plenty of adventure and hardship, but the best part is getting to know Samuel and Moriah.
I don’t know of any other author quite as gifted as drawing readers into the Canadian territory setting. This Daring Journey immerses readers into the Canadian wilderness which, in spite of its rugged beauty, could be unforgiving when it came to climate, terrain, and wildlife. Dangers from the elements, predators – both animal and human – are all part of this journey, and I especially enjoyed reading about survival skills.
Moriah and Samuel are such appealing characters, well drawn and complex. I loved Moriah’s strength, determination, and survival instincts. Moriah’s situation prior to Samul’s arrival literally blew my mind, giving new meaning to the idea of doing whatever you have to do. After the death of her husband in a hunting accident, she was completely by herself. During that time, she carried a baby to term, then delivered the child – by herself!
Samuel was something totally unexpected in her life and watching them connect is a joy. “His kindness seemed to run soul-deep… He was like a safe cave in a blizzard. A refuge.” When a “manly” man tenderly reaches out to a baby … well, there’s just something special about that! The scenes with Samuel and baby Cherry were so very touching, as was the scene when he gently removed porcupine quills from a horse. Samuel and Moriah were exactly what the other needed, and the theme of God’s guidance shines throughout.
“The farther we travel, the more thankful I am that I don’t travel alone” (Moriah).
Each chapter began with a short journal-like entry that creatively reflected the mood or tone of what was to come. What I loved most, however, was the realization that some of these tied in beautifully to our spiritual lives. For example, the assurance that God is right there with us through the roughest of times. And then, this thought about God’s grace … “This gift … I never knew how much I wanted it.”
This Daring Journey is an entertaining and moving story. I highly recommend it, as well as the whole series.

This Daring Journey is the sixth book in the Heart of the Mountains series by Misty M. Beller. Although it continues the story of Samuel Grant from the previous book, it is easily read as a stand-alone book as the author does a great job filling in enough of the backstory the reader does not have a lot of questions regarding what has gone on before. It is a beautiful and captivating story of unexpected love, the importance of being able to trust family and friends (and sometimes strangers) and as the title suggests a daring journey through the wintry Canadian mountains during the mid-1800s. The writing style is graceful and flows smoothly as the author tells the story of a young widow, Moriah, and Samuel traveling through the mountains to find Moriah’s family. The author has beautifully crafted her characters, Moriah, strong and full of spunk and determination. Samuel, a rugged man of the mountains and yet with a tender heart who cared, provided and protected those he loved. I enjoyed watching the relationship between Moriah and Samuel morph and change throughout the story as they encountered so many struggles, harrowing struggles–illness, fire, wild animals, and so much more. Moriah trusted few men, especially white men. Could she trust Samuel to safely lead her and her newborn to find her family? Strong characters that are so likable, realistic situations, wonderfully descriptive scenes all work together for a delightful story and threaded throughout the book is a faith in God–the God who alone can fix situations as we are not strong enough to do so. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more of Ms. Beller’s books.

I could not put this book down! I found myself cheering for Moriah and so proud of her strength and resilience! Samuel is a gentleman in every sense of the word. The unending love of God is gently woven in this beautiful story.
Samuel Grant is on his way to get Henry Clark and bring him back for his sister’s wedding, but when he gets to Henry’s cabin, there is a ruckus going on. A woman is holed up inside and men out front are aggressively trying to take the cabin. Then Samuel hears a baby crying.
Moriah Clark’s husband has died 6 months previously, leaving her with a newborn and a cabin and land to maintain. She is half Peigan and just wants to get back to her people, after being given to a white man in marriage by her grandfather. When Samuel Grant rescues her from the men trying to take her home, she reluctantly agrees to allow him to take her back to her family’s camping grounds.
Thus begins a treacherous, dangerous journey, and having a three week old infant is not easy on any of them. Moriah is concerned with keeping her baby alive and not relying on this frontiersman any more than she has to. When she gets back to her tribe, everything will be fine. Or will it?
Misty Beller adds another compelling story to her Heart of the Mountains series. She brings these characters and their plight to life in a wonderful way. I enjoyed it very much. Recommended.
Another great book to add to the Heart of the Mountains series! Misty Beller’s, This Daring Journey is full of adventure and danger as Moriah Clark and Samuel Grant travel through the mountains during the winter to reach their destination. They are traveling with a newborn and they have many hardships to conquer along with other interesting obstacles. There are disappointments and tragedy. Will they be able to make it through? Great story! Really enjoy Misty’s books.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and Misty Beller. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.
This Daring Journey is the sixth installment from Misty M Beller’s Heart of the Mountains series. I think this one may be my favorite of the series. I just loved Samuel and Moriah’s story. I loved reading their journey. I could not put the book down and had it read within hours. I highly recommend it.
Five plus stars.
I received this book from the author, but was not required to write a review. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
This was my first book that I read by Misty Beller and oh, what a lovely little gem was this! I was immediately captivated and held hostage to the very end! I read it without difficulty as a stand-alone, however I enjoyed Misty’s writing so much that I wish I had started at the beginning. Looking back at the descriptions of the other books in the series, the main characters shift to different people, so it wasn’t as difficult to jump-in later in the series. Having said that though, even though my TBR is incredibly high right now, I fully plan on going back to the beginning and hopefully reading through the rest.
This is a story that would appeal to historical fiction and survivalist fans alike. After Samuel finds Moriah and her newborn baby Cherry, they embark on a journey of twists and turns neither could have expected. The longer they travel, the closer they become. When one faces trouble the other is quick to help. Their mutual concern along with steadfast perseverance helps them battle the elements and illnesses that come their way.
At less than 300 pages I consider this a shorter read, but there was still a full story that didn’t feel rushed or incomplete. I found it both engaging and realistic. It has led me to add the rest of the books in the series to my TBR and I fully plan on reading more from this author in the future. Easily a book (series) I’d highly recommend!

I was given a free copy of this book by the author for an honest review. It is my favorite so far in Heart of the Mountain Series(it’s book 6) Misty gives her characters a life of their own. Such a interesting story with all the heartwarming feels and wholesome romance rolled into one. I keep thinking that I will get bored of this series but every new book that Misty puts out I just can’t put down. She is such a wonderful story teller!
Take a journey with Moriah and Samuel! A journey through the rugged, harsh wilderness and a journey through life. Life is full of trials and heartaches and Moriah has certainly seen her share. Where is her family? What will she do with a baby all on her own? Can Samuel help her? Will she allow him to help her? Adventure, faith, and love await you throughout the pages of this new Misty Beller novel.
Oh my – I love to read Misty’s books and how they are separate books but they all flow together!! A journey in the winter. With a newborn. On horses. And not sure exactly where you are going!!!! Another great book!
Like all the books in this series, this one does not skimp on plot line, interesting well-developed characters, obstacles, danger and devotion. I think of the people who won’t venture out-of-town with a young child and compare that to leaving everything you know, in the middle of winter, with a stranger and to top it off a new born baby. Misty M. Beller always brings such strong characters to her books. It is always a pleasure to get a new book. I can highly recommend this book and the others in the series.
What a beautiful, heartfelt journey these characters were on! This is book six in the Heart of the Mountains series, yet it could be read on its own, as well. The previous book, This Homeward Journey, would be a good one to read right before This Daring Journey, as Samuel Grant appears in both novels.
I loved the connection that developed between not only Samuel and Moriah, but also between Samuel and baby Cherry. Samuel’s character and gentleness came shining through in the way he cared for Moriah and her child.
The rugged, dangerous land that these characters had to journey across came to life within these pages. It was easy to imagine the frigid temperatures and desolate beauty as their party trekked toward the hope of reaching family. I loved this story from start to finish!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed reading This Daring Journey. The characters were incredible and drew me into the story immediately. This story is one of hardships, trust and belonging. The faith of God to bring safety, healing and belonging was absolutely beautifully done. Another great story by Misty Beller!
