The only hope to keep her newborn baby alive is to reach the safety of her Indian people… This mountain man is the last person she should trust to get her there. As a half-Indian raised among her Peigan tribe, Moriah Clark knows better than to trust white people. The tragedy that resulted in her birth is proof enough. But when her trusted grandfather marries her to a white man, she has no choice … to a white man, she has no choice but to obey and hope this new life isn’t her downfall. Her white husband turns out to be a decent sort, but his unexpected death left her to birth a newborn baby among hostile mountain men. She wants nothing more than to retreat to the safe haven of her tribal upbringing. When a mysterious frontiersman arrives on her doorstep seeking her deceased husband, his offer to escort her and the babe to her people seems like the opportunity she’s been praying to find. But can she trust him?
Samuel Grant has been sent to retrieve Henry Clark for his sister’s wedding, but the sight that greets him at the little cabin in the woods is not what he expected. Not only has the man died, but Henry’s wife is fighting off an aggressive gang of men at gunpoint—while trying to conceal a newborn. He can’t leave the pair unattended, so helping her travel into the mountain country to reach her family seems like the only option. If he can win her trust, that is.
Such a grueling journey with a three-week-old baby will be risky, but the challenges that arise test them far more than either expected. When a devastating surprise increases the danger ten-fold, Moriah focuses all her efforts on keeping her newborn daughter alive. Maybe that’s why she doesn’t realize how much of her heart belongs to the mountain man—until it’s too late.

Can she trust him with their lives?
It’s a bit hard to believe that I am almost done with the Heart Of The Mountains series from Misty M. Beller. This Daring Journey is the sixth book out of seven and I’ll admit that that I’ll be a bit sorry to say goodbye to the extended Grant family when I do ‘read’ the last one. I say ‘read’ because I have actually been listening to the entire series in audiobook.
This Daring Journey was much like its predecessors with a small manageable cast of characters and a dangerous journey through the mountains. There really weren’t very many surprises but I was perfectly OK with that. I liked the chance to get to know the characters a little better and to enjoy the wilderness winter setting.
I just have to say how much I enjoy the narrator for this series. Leonor A. Woodworth has the perfect voice for historical romance, it’s so easy to listen to her for hours, and she really brings Misty M. Beller’s characters to life. If you enjoy uncomplicated historical romance and audiobooks you should check out the Heart Of The Mountains series. Each book is standalone, though loosely connected, so it isn’t hard to pick it up anywhere and read or listen.
(I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. All opinions are entirely my own.)
This is an amazing story! A half-Indian raised in the Peigan tribe, known as Moriah, given by her grandfather to a white man she didn’t know, Henry Clark. Already you can see there are twists in this book. Samuel Grant arrived at their cabin at the request of Henry’s sister, as she was to wed and wanted him present. This story-line is filled with anxious moments, travel to far-off destinations, dangerous moments, and, the cries of a small infant, Cherry. The harsh weather added to the long journey and the constant care required for a baby, makes for a great tale of survival. There is a surprise character in the book known as Matisse, and I loved his strength and character. This is a Christian read and can be enjoyed by anyone. I loved it!
I think that this was my favorite one in this series. I loved all four main characters and enjoyed the whole story. This is a fantastic romance. I loved the little bit of suspense when not knowing if one of them was going to survive the journey. This has been a wonderful series. I received a copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
This Daring Journey is full of adventure, peril, and survival. A compelling read, the characters are well developed, with personalities that will draw you into the story. Beller does a great job of describing not only tough situations but the landscape and weather. You may want to have a blanket close by or you’ll get cold!
Both main characters are strong individuals who learn to depend on others. Romance builds but slowly, in a real way, and it’s clean and sweet.
Book six in the Heart of the Mountains series could be read as a stand alone but to really enjoy it and understand all the little nuances I would recommend you read the entire series. It’s well worth your time as each book in the series is very well written.
If you enjoy historical romance then do yourself a favor and read this series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
Misty Beller yet again succeeds in captivating and enchanting with her beautiful redemptive love story set in the backdrop of wintery harshness of the Canadian mountains. Her previous five books in the Heart of the Mountains series all have similar setting but it never gets old; there is so much beauty and danger in the mountains during the winter and the struggle of the main characters to survive is real, tangible, and heart-wrenching at times. The story has a nicely paced plot, endearing characters, and spiritual growth and affirmation in both Moriah and Samuel. This is book 6 in the series but it can be read as a stand-alone (but I highly recommend reading all the books in the series since the Grant family is so lovable!).
Moriah is a recent widow, fighting to keep her newborn and herself alive. She’s resourceful, formidable, and determined yet has self-doubts due to her half-Indian heritage. Samuel is loyal, kind, steadfast, and tender yet he himself has self-doubts from all his perceived failures. Samuel arrives to fetch Moriah and her family for her husband’s sister’s wedding, not realizing the husband is dead. Thus begins their journey into the wilderness of Canada. If you enjoy well-written historical romance, you will totally love this book (and the entire series!).
I was given a copy of this book via Celebrate Lit Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
Moriah is the perfect combination of fiery and vulnerable and she’s a great match for the quiet, patient, and protective Samuel. Moriah takes motherhood to a truly fierce level. She is seriously one boss mama! Samuel is chivalry personified and his physical endurance is truly impressive! Moriah’s inspiring bravery and fledgling faith blossom and grow in the safety of Samuel’s steadfastness and encouragement. I love indulging in these mountain stories over and over again.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions expressed are my own.
Another fabulous book in the Heart of the Mountain series that you won’t put down until you finish! The details of their journey were so well described that I could almost see the narrow mountain trails, the clear waters of the streams and even the campfires beside the rough shelters made to block the wind and weather. I loved the way their faith and trust grew as the story continued to the point of believing that the Lord would bring them safely to their destination. The author has once again crafted an absolutely wonderful narrative that is sure to send your imagination soaring.
I received this ARC through CelebrateLit. All impressions and opinions are my own.
I enjoyed this book, loved the characters and very interesting. Can’t wait to read more of Misty’s books.
Another amazing adventure! Heartwrenching, encouraging, valiant, supportive, heroic and loyal! These adjectives and more describe the journey and the characters! I couldn’t put it down!
Samuel has been sent by his family to contact his brother, Henry deep in Canada’s wilderness. He finds the cabin and a group of mountain men surrounding it. Samuel manages to scare them off only to find his brother has died leaving a wife, Moriah with a brand new baby girl, Cherry. Moriah is half white and half Peigan (an Indian tribe). She wants to return to her people. Thus, Samuel sets out on a daring journey to return her to her to her tribe. This is a great Christian novel with a lot of trials that need to be overcome on their trip.
A little different twist on an old west romance.
Search for Family
Looking for the brother of his soon-to-be sister-in-law, Samuel finds himself confronted by the widow and newborn daughter of the man, herself under siege by hunters wanting to claim her snug cabin . . . and her. Despite the coming of winter, they head off to find her mother’s people, the Peigan, facing any number of travails along the way in this beautifully written and narrated tale.
A good story of survival, commitment, and following God’s plan, which can be uncertain but always rewarding. It’s always better when love abounds, seen from the beginning to a very good ending.
This book makes you think about being alone in the old west.
Outstanding inspirational romance with great characters in very difficult situation demonstrating faith, integrity, courage and compassion. I will look for more from MIsty M. Beller
The hard times in early America were portrayed, in a very realistic manner. Great story development.
A very good book. I would recommend this!
I know I’ve said this with every review I’ve done on this author’s books, but honestly! She’s the best! I’ve read only the books in her “Heart of the Mountains” series, but am without-a-doubt confident in my enjoyment of any and all of her other books when I go to read them. She has such a unique style and a talented knack for making you fall in love with her characters just as surely as they fall in love with one another!
“This Daring Journey” is the story of a recently widowed half-Indian woman struggling to care for her tiny infant in a dangerous wilderness, surrounded by hunger, cold, and men of ill-intent.
Enter Samuel Grant. Sent by his family to fetch a relation to attend a family wedding, he is shocked to find only the man’s widow and newborn, living alone in a dangerous area. Determined to help, Samuel volunteers to escort Moriah Clark and her child through the dangerous Canadian Rockies to find her people.
Along this daring journey they encounter dangers and unexpected surprises, including…love?
Strong characters offering a view into life far different from my own!
This was an enjoyable story with strong, interesting characters.
