I absolutely loved this book! I practically inhaled it! There were many things to like. It was action packed and fast-paced, suspenseful and full of danger, steamy and with a bit of sweet romance. Pope Dades and Felix Jbarra meet at a crucial moment in their lives. Pope is just about run out of police force by homophobic captain and ex-partner, and Felix, even though deep in the closet, wants to have someone to come home to and thinks that there is suspicion in his family as to why no woman is ever good enough for him.
Both men are ex-military, both love their jobs and both are lonely. Pope is by choice, and Felix is because he is scared to lose his family. What starts as a quick hook up in a bar develops into mutual respect, passion and fondness that might grow into love if both men let it. I really liked them. They were approachable and easy to relate to. Neither were perfect, but that’s exactly why they were so appealing. Felix had such a sunny personality that it was the complete opposite to Pope’s broody attitude. But when they were together, Felix made Pope smile and Pope just accepted Felix’s many quirks. After many years of not trusting anybody because no one was there for him, Pope finally was able to trust Felix.
The constant danger, dirty corrupt cops, local vigilante, FBI, ATF, LAPD – you name it – everything together is just one thrilling read. Every chapter new secrets were unveiled some of which were shocking. Pope and Felix at times didn’t know who to trust and which way was up. But through it all they turned to each other, sought solace and comfort. They were so good together. *whispers* I actually liked them a bit more that Jarrett and Thayne *shhh, don’t tell anyone* I really hope this will be a long series. I highly recommend it!
