Sequel to Smoke & MirrorsTHIRDS: Book EightIn a matter of days, Dex has been kidnapped, tortured, killed, revived, become half Therian, offered the chance to become a spy, and accepted a proposal to marry his jaguar Therian boyfriend, Sloane Brodie. It’s been a lot to take in, and although Dex is still trying to wrap his head around everything that’s happened, he knows he has to move forward. happened, he knows he has to move forward.
After the events of Smoke & Mirrors, Dex and Sloane find themselves in one of the most frightening situations of all: revealing the truth to their Destructive Delta family. When the dust settles, nothing will ever be the same, and it’s up to Dex to prove that in the face of change, the one thing that will always remain the same is family.

This was funny interlude for THIRDS Destructive Delta. After everything that happened to the team and Tony, both Dex and Sloane decide to join TIN. This book follows exactly after the events of the previous one and shows how Dex and Sloane tell it all to their friends. It’s at times heart-breaking, at times it’s sweet and hilarious. But they are in this together, and Team Delta will follow Dex and Sloane to the end. That’s what family does after all.
“Thick & Thin” is a shortish sequel that perfectly completes the events of the seventh book. I loved it.
Dex and Sloane have to deal with finally telling their team and family what’s been going on with them, after Dex’s transformation and their new jobs as TIN agents (and also, Sloane’s wedding proposal), and it is no easy feat. I’m not so big on life changing decisions, so I was a bit worried about Dex’s decision to join TIN but as usual Charlie Cochet worked out all the issues beautifully.
I’m starting Seb and Hudson’s story NOW: I’ve always been curious about them and I know my heart will be shattered by their story. I can’t wait.
I have to admit – so much happened at the end of the last book, which I read a few weeks ago, so I had to refresh my memory. But this book does touch on everything so you don’t have to reread the previous book. This installment in the series is novella length (less than 100 pages); it’s a quick read. No complaints from me! It’s a nice wrap-up from the previous story and strong lead-in for the next. With every book I love the characters more and more, and thoroughly enjoy the direction that the author is taking everything. I have a feeling the next book is going to be great, possibly better than the previous books (and that’s saying something).
Next up? Hudson and Seb. I can’t wait!
This is a very quick read. It’s a novella that serves as a connector between phases of the THIRDS series. Things took a dramatic turn in the last book and this book serves, in a very well written and clever way, to set the table for what comes next. Thar be drastic change on the horizon!
Face it, when a series continues past five or six books and has used most of the available team members’ lives as basis for stories, something has to change. This book, while still including action and the usual humor and emotion, mainly serves to span the gap of what is next for Dex, Sloane and Destructive Delta. There are some questions raised with no answers and two particularly intriguing nets cast out, one of which leads directly to the next book featuring Seb and Hudson. I’ve got my own theory on part of that and can’t wait to see if I’m correct.
Lots of times these “between” books are clearly just placeholders that don’t contribute much but are necessary to get to the next level of the franchise (think the second Matrix movie!) That is not true here. A lot of interesting things happen in this book and it’s definitely worth your time to read and enjoy it. There is further character development and more development of the relationships between all the members of the team. We also get an exceedingly amusing new goal for Dex in terms of who his next primary foil will be. I’m really looking forward to that! Be prepared when you finish this one to go right on to book 9!!
*I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my objective review *
Following this series has been an immense roller coaster that goes from being ridiculous to outlandish, and I’m really not going to say those are bad things. I personally quite enjoy the chaos, the feels, the general quandary of “how in the world can we go bigger or further”. What sometimes can bother me are the individual actions and reactions of the characters, not the overall story or direction, so I’ve never disliked any of the books in this series. This is no exception.
While this was definitely more of a bridge and transition for everyone to move from strictly THIRDS to TIN in intention and eventuality, it carried with it all the characters and crises we’ve been involved with up to now. There are a few concerns I have regarding the involvement of Sparks, but that’s more something I’m going to keep in the forefront as I read what craziness comes next. As with most things included in Thick & Thin, we’re very much in a “we’ll just have to wait and see” holding pattern as to how things will play out and find footing with all the crazy changes Dex is going through.
Dex and his changes will feature heavily because the surprises we’ve now been introduced to mean big things for him, his team, and their world. I’m freaking excited to see how it all works together with his penchant for shenanigans and all the hijinks that dogs his heels, usually with explosive consequences. There are quite a few passionate speeches and diatribes that become repetitive and a bit too lengthy for my tastes and seem placed to lengthen the word count rather than to express his feelings. We knew how he felt back with Rise & Fall where Dex stood so now we’re getting the same impassioned explanation, only it’s a little more complicated because of Dex’s decisions and genetic changes.
Though I liked this story overall, it was a bit imbalanced between the dramatic monologues and all the other stuff going on at the same time. I’m still definitely in for more and can’t wait to see what comes next, I just felt a little underwhelmed with feeling like I could have had more with less.
I can not get enough of this series! Dex and Sloane are perfect together. They balance each other out. I do really love all the other characters too. After everything that happened to Dex in the last story, it was nice to have a happy story. Loved it!!
This book, shorter than the previous ones on the series is like a little stop in the highway, to regroup, to organize everything to continue in whatever is next. Charlie Cochet kept on the amazing work with interesting surprises for the team and for Dex and Sloane. Just one question… can they have a donut wedding cake??? Pretty please with sugar on top???
I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
Another glimpse into the Destruction Delta story and so full of feels! I loved how it was focused on the team dynamics and the emotions of the characters!
Thick & Thin is the eighth book in the THIRDS series by Charlie Cochet. This series just gets better the more I read of it. This one is no exception. it is filled with the same drama, action and steam as we see in previous books. This one did seem to be a quicker read for me but it fit with what was going on in the story. We get some secrets uncovered to the team and surprises for all. Loved it!.
I received an advanced reader’s copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
Change is in the air
I’m with Dex on lots of things but especially in the realm of when are these guys going to get a break? There are so many changes occurring in this world it makes my head spin. One thing that remains the same is this crazy, wonderful family and how much I love them. Tony is flat out amazing and I want to be adopted by him. I am love with Ash in love. The softer sides to him but still the same grumpy Ash; I can’t express how happy I am for him.
“Even good men have darkness in them.” I’d keep one eye on Dex at all times. He is going to surpass lethal. Also, I didn’t think it was possible but somehow Dex and Sloane are even hotter and sexier in this book. Emotions run high in this book and it made my heart hurt at times but no matter what I always felt the love. On a funnier note, we finally find out Dimples name and it’s epic! Now if we can only learn more about Rosa’s girlfriend. Another fantastic addition to this phenomenal series.
Honestly, it’s the characterization of Dex, Sloane and the rest of the team that makes me love these books so much. Without their amazing personalities, and Charlies fabulous writing skills, I would not be as invested in this series as I am. The plot keeps getting more crazy and complicated, and I keep having to expand my suspension of disbelief. But I love the team and I love the characters, so I’ll keep suspending my disbelief.
One of the very best M/M writers. Love the whole THIRDS series. Sexy times, funny times, serious times, battling times. These books have it all. I have read the whole series about 10 times now. Just love her books!!
Thick and Thin is a novella that gives the reader some necessary down-time after the emotional upheaval of Smoke and Mirrors. It also gives Destructive Delta the opportunity to catch up with what is going on with Dex and Sloane. Yes, they’re unhappy at the secrets being kept and their own fears, but will it be enough to split them up permanently, or will they be able to work it out?
I needed this book, a touch of normality after the previous book! I still found my emotions in play though as the rest of the team learned about what had gone on that they had no idea about. However, I am now excited to see where it will lead. Very well written, as per the whole series, with no editing or grammatical errors to disrupt my reading flow. Definitely recommended by me.
