Big Al’s Books & Pal’s 2015 Readers’ Choice Award Winner“Fried Green Tomatoes meets Dolores Claiborne. This character-rich southern gothic-esque tale will keep you guessing up to the very end.” – NYT Bestselling Author Kate MorettiCass Adams is crazy, and everyone in Deacon, Kansas, knows it. But when her good-for-nothing husband, Roland, goes missing, no one suspects that Cass buried him in … Cass buried him in their unfinished koi pond. Too bad he doesn’t stay there for long. Cass gets arrested on the banks of the Spring River for dumping his corpse after heavy rain partially unearths it.
The police chief wants a quick verdict—he’s running for sheriff and has no time for crazy talk. But like Roland’s corpse, secrets start to surface, and they bring more to light than anybody expected. Everyone in Cass’s life thinks they know her—her psychic grandmother, her promiscuous ex-best friend, her worm-farming brother-in-law, and maybe even her local ghost. But after years of separate silences, no one knows the whole truth. Except Roland. And he’s not talking.

I loved the characters and their development.
Just finished book 2.
If you’re looking for a book that will help you relax and encourage you to laugh, this is it. Actually, it’s the first book of a trilogy, so I think you should start here. The characters are wonderful: Cass is a different kind of person, so different that her husband thinks she’s mentally ill and has her medicated. But she figures out what’s …
Great tale around an Interesting and Quirky Character
I love to read a book that makes me look at things differently.
See things through another’s eyes.
This book certainly does that. Lovely read, I recommend!
Did not like this one. Characters were hard to follow and story just wasn’t making much sense. It was an easy one to put down and start another.
Unusual, but had to see what happened.. Again, we need to hear people instead of judging.
I read a few chapters and then put it down. I had no desire to continue reading.
My favorite new (to me) author.
Didn’t like book very much. Just not my taste in reading.
The twist at the very end is spectacular. I loved this story.
A fun read with great characters.
I loved reading about the messed up lives of the characters living in a small town. Cass, the main character was thoughtful, forgiving and not so crazy after all. The book was Great read!
Great summer read. Takes a bit to know the characters and their relationship but worth the time. Sometimes funny sometimes sad. Enjoy the read.
It was okay it definitely isn’t my favorite. It was a little boring to me. I already knew what Cass did because they tell you everyone else finds out then at the end she tells the big secret to only the reader. If you are more into slightly scary books I recommend this.
I read a LOT and so I become kind of a critic. There wasn’t anything wrong with this book, but it just left me cool; neither good nor bad. I’m leaning more towards good than bad though.
This was a great book. Made me laugh and made me cry. Just how crazy can life get. When you think all the ends and outs have been sorted through….keep reading
Not my kind of book. Too many vulgar words
Quirky, definitely a different spin on the main character, I like she is first person telling of the story as much as she does!
An entertaining story that kept me reading to find out what would happen to crazy Cass Adams when she is discovered moving her dead husband’s body. Only a crazy wife would kill her abusive, cheating husband, right? Unraveling the character of Cass kept the story moving and the ending was good.
Was not expecting the way the story ended up…..could not put down…not the best book I have read but very entertaining and kept my interest. That is the reason for the high rating.
A very different but entertaining book.
