The ONLY reason I read this book was because it was a book club pick. I don’t like Westerns and I certainly don’t like books with a grammatically incorrect title. Needless to say I was eating humble pie once I’d finished as it ended up being one of my very favorite books ever!! I love that I was pushed out of my comfort zone and ended up …
The early history of the Arizona Territory is captured through the words of young Sarah Agnes Prine’s Diary. Barely literate at first, Sara’s struggles are recorded through crude, often phonetically spelled entries. As she journeys by wagon train with her family from Arizona to New Mexico and back again, she struggles not only to survive but to …
This, very unexpectedly, was one of my favorites this year. Stories about pioneers and the old American West are decidedly not in my typical rotation of reads… but because of this book, they just might have to be.
It’s the diary of Sarah Agnes Prine, a fiery and intelligent young homesteader. Her entries document the intimate struggles and …
I love pioneer women. I adore reading about their strength and grit and determined efforts to basically … not die.
Sarah Agnes Prine is a character who–if I could skip over all the pain and suffering and wretched living circumstances–I would give my left lung to be. A remarkable girl grows into an extraordinary woman. And this girl, and then …
This is the grown up version of the Dear America books. Don’t let the title turn you off to picking it up–it’s a powerful book. Adventure, heartbreak, and sweet romance abound!
This book and it’s characters captured my heart. I was so sorry when I had finished the third book of the trilogy because I wanted it to go on and on and on. I wish I could forget it quickly so I could read it again, but there’s no chance of that. It stays in my mind, and I feel like I know Sarah personally. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it’s …
Of all the novels I have read in past few years-> Nancy Turner’s book puts the reader right (both mentally & emotionally) in turn -of-the-century Arizona; the prose is exciting & enlightening. I have to remind myself that this is fiction!
This is one of the best books i have ever read. I laughed and cried and fell in love with these characters. Based on real people in the 1800’s west this story captures you on page one and never lets go.
I always thought this looked like a weird book because there was a grammatical error in the title, but my mom recommended it to me for years, so I finally read it. I’m SO glad I did! I loved this book! I loved how fiery Sarah is and it was strengthening to me to see how she was able to deal with the many problems in her life. She is such a strong …
I love this whole series. It tells the story of Sarah Prine and her family as they travel across the Arizona frontier in search of a place to “stake their claim” and live. I love learning about the west as it was first being claimed by homesteaders, and this gives a great picture of what life was like in the late 1800s to early 1900s.
Love the authenticity of this book.
Sarah is a character I would have loved to have as a friend. She was a heroine in her own right and stood toe to toe with her man. An entertaining read from the first word to the last. Thank you Sarah for sharing your heartfelt life.
A beautifully written and compelling story about life on the frontier in the Arizona Territories in the late 1800s. You will not regret buying/borrowing this book and I bet you won’t be able to put it down.
This story was based on a diary so it was not polished grammatically but I absolutely loved it.
One of my favorite books of all time; well-conceived, interesting plot progression, memorable and compelling
Exciting, endearing trilogy based on the actual diaries of a family member of the author. I couldn’t put the books down!
I kept seeing this book pop up as a highly recommended novel by one of my favorite authors so I finally checked it out from my library and I am so glad that I did.
I wasn’t at all sure what to expect when I first started this book, but wow! Once it really got going I was completely hooked. I can’t believe this is based on the author’s ancestor’s …
I thought this book was a bit fluffy. The main character was basically Wonder Woman of the wagon train. Nothing about her adventures rang true. Nor did the almost hot romance elements of the novel. It was an easy read but just not my kind of book. Plus, the title was deceptive.
I absolutely loved this book!!!!
These is My Words has been at the top of my “best books” list for years. I always recommend it to potential readers. Nancy offers a realistic portrait into life in the American West through a unique and endearing voice. She tells a full and lively story.
