There’s Something about a KiltIt’s a hellaciously hot day in Minneapolis and all Thom wants to do is enjoy his ice cream and forget about the stacks of essays waiting for him back in his stifling apartment. Until he meets Gerry, a kilted, tattooed Welshman. The conversation is smooth and the attraction immediate, but Gerry is only in town for the night and isn’t down for anything quick and … and forgettable. When they meet again, hours later, Gerry knows there’s something in the air and all bets are off. Including his kilt.
There’s Something about Pain
Still devastated that Gerry never called him back after an epic night of passionate connection, Thom has been taken to Los Angeles by his best friends for a weekend of debauchery and forgetting. Yet when a drunken decision leads them to Gerry, Thom has a choice to make. Does he take Gerry’s invitation to reenter the world of BDSM, with a proper guide this time, and reclaim power he lost years ago? Or does Thom take his revenge?
There’s Something about Flying
After walking away from Gerry, Thom is back home in Minnesota living his best life. He’s flying through the air, embracing the sexual power he reclaimed in a lonely dungeon with Gerry. Yet when Gerry arrives unannounced and full of inexplicable hope, Thom has another choice to make. Does he let Gerry go and finally close the book on their tryst? Or does Thom open up his heart to the reality of their past and the potential of their future? The third and final chapter of the There’s Always Something trilogy stays true to form: there’s always an ending.

A hard one to review…
I have so many conflicting feelings about this collection. I definitely liked it overall, but there were some head scratching moments for me. We have Gerry and Thom, two guys who randomly meet and have a terrific night together. While Gerry says all the right things, such as this could be more than one night, he’s got butterflies, he ultimately never calls Thom after that night. Now, we have to take the perspective that Thom lives in Minneapolis and Gerry lives in LA. That already makes the call back iffy, at best. So, really, Gerry not calling doesn’t seem that farfetched. Thom doesn’t take it well at all. Personally, I thought Thom’s reaction was a bit extreme. When Thom and Gerry run into each other again two months later, Thom’s anger is disproportionate to the situation. Without giving anything away, what Thom does to Gerry at the end of the second portion of this book is unforgivable. He leaves Gerry in a highly vulnerable situation after Gerry puts ALL of his trust in Thom and never looks back. It was irresponsible and childish. That action alone really sullied my opinion of Thom.
In the third and final portion of this collection, Gerry travels to Minneapolis to see Thom again and try to salvage something with him. Thom’s reaction here is also harsh, but he realizes pretty quickly that he was wrong. And STILL, with everything that transpires between Thom and Gerry, I was rooting for them so badly. I wanted the very best for them and for it to work out. There was an undeniable chemistry between them. The ending we got was just right, it seemed. We finally get some open and honest communication and they seem to settle into one another nicely. I wish there had been a little more exploration into why Thom did what he did to Gerry and Thom’s previous relationship.
So, while I found parts of this to be frustrating, I actually quite liked it overall. It was real and visceral and evoked emotion. A recommended read.
*I received a copy of this book from NineStar Press and this is my honest review.
I want to start with saying something I usually, if applicable, end a review with: this is an absolute must-read!
I loved that this story surprised me so much. It had turns I didn’t expect at all!
Italian beauty, Thom, sees Gerry approaching, an attractive ginger in a kilt, he’s enjoying this view more than his ice cream. When Gerry joins Thom at his table they start talking, flirting and the attraction is immediate. Thom is straight to the point; he wants something with Gerry.
After a heavy passionate night and morning together, which were unbelievably beautifully and intensely described, they make promises.
Thom is more than disappointed when there is no sign of Gerry after that one night.
He is deeply hurt and also angry.
When their paths crossed more than once it seemed they were irreparable.
Seeing both men fight, lose, and stumble, was hard. Even with their attraction still going strong.
Thom lost control over his life in an earlier relationship and wants to find a way to reclaim it.
The big question was, could they overcome.
Goshhhh, I’m so impressed by this story. There is so much going on.
Besides all those delicious steamy, sexy encounters there is also a wonderful story with substantial layers. Read it and you will be surprised!!
Gerry and Thom; their personalities and actions were beautifully flawed. You can only respect these sensible men, so real and sensitive. The story was unpredictable, and I loved that, it was considerate of all the emotions, honest and at times painfully real.
It flowed well, was intense and enjoyable from the very first line.
