“One of the most stunning debuts of the year.” —Seventeen
The Age of Darkness approaches.
Five lives stand in its way.
Who will stop it . . . or unleash it?
For generations, the Seven Prophets guided humanity. Using their visions of the future, they ended wars and united nations—until the day, one hundred years ago, when the Prophets disappeared.
All they left behind was one final, secret prophecy, foretelling an Age of Darkness and the birth of a new Prophet who could be the world’s salvation . . . or the cause of its destruction. With chaos on the horizon, five souls are set on a collision course:
A prince exiled from his kingdom.
A ruthless killer known as the Pale Hand.
A once-faithful leader torn between his duty and his heart.
A reckless gambler with the power to find anything or anyone.
And a dying girl on the verge of giving up.
One of them—or all of them—could break the world. Will they be savior or destroyer? Perfect for fans of Throne of Glass, Children of Blood and Bone, and An Ember in the Ashes.

“Even in a world filled with graces and prophets, the real magic of There Will Come a Darkness is in how Pool has crafted her heroes—messy, flawed, and so beguilingly human. I dare you not to fall madly in love with all of them.” —Laura Sebastian, New York Times bestselling author of Ash Princess

4.5/5 Stars
This was an exciting story that pulled me in and wouldn’t let go. This story is told with multiple POVs which I felt worked really well for this story. And I am madly in love with both the cover and the title of the book. The title fits so perfectly and the cover captures the essence of the story so well. And I’m loving the black, red, and white on the cover.
This world is so rich and I loved every moment of it. I kid you not, I can’t tell you the number of times I flipped to the front or back cover of the book just to gaze at the map of this riveting world. I was so entranced by it. The world-building is very layered to incorporate locations, a unique magic system, religion, politics, and social class. It is all encompassed with a light touch so that the reader isn’t overwhelmed.
I really loved the diverse cast of characters in this book. Each main character had their own distinct voice. These characters are thrown together by fate and choice and I just loved all the character interactions. I felt that each of the main characters had really great background and development in the story. The only thing that brought the rating down to 4.5 stars on this one for me was that I didn’t overly connect with the characters. I liked them, cheered for them, but I didn’t feel like my heart was as invested in them as it should have been. And honestly, I think that it is just me on this one because the characters in this were mapped out beautifully. I really have no other complaints so I will classify it as operator error and move on.
The plot of the story is very unique and clever. I really loved every moment. There is excellent foreshadowing and the plot progresses nicely. The pacing is perfect. For such a long book, the pages really do fly by. I really like where the author took the story and I am excited to see what happens next in the second book.
Overall, this book really is a gem in YA fantasy. It has all the parts that make up an extraordinary story. It’s creative, unique, full of diversity, and can stand on its own in a lineup of YA reads. This was very nearly a five star read for me and I will definitely be reading the next book in this series. This is a magnificent debut and I will be keeping my eye on Katy Rose Pool for the foreseeable future. Great things are on the horizon from her, I just know it!
A sweeping, ambitious fantasy that pulled me into a world of corruption, dark prophecy, and ultimately, hope. [G]ripped me until the very last pages.
There Will Come a Darkness is a can’t-miss debut from an exciting new talent. I defy you not to lose yourself in this vast, luscious fantasy.
Even in a world filled with graces and prophets, the real magic of There Will Come a Darkness is in how Pool has crafted her heroes ― messy, flawed, and so beguilingly human. I dare you not to fall madly in love with all of them.
Katy Rose Pool combines lovable characters, a gorgeously tangible world, and an intricate puzzle-box plot to create a story that will pull you inexorably toward the explosive end.
A beautiful woven fantasy of prophecy, intrigue and unforgettable characters. There Will Come a Darkness feels both utterly original and like the best of classic fantasy.
There will come a darkness is the debut novel of author Katy Rose Pool and the first book in The Age of Darkness series.
There’s a prophecy that have been foretold one hundreds years ago before all the prophets dissapear. The Age of Darkness is coming and there will be a new prophet, to stop the prophecy or to make it happen and cause the world destruction. Four other lives are also in that prophecy but like the last prophet will they help the world or not.
There’s a lot of POV from different characters in this book. The five main of the prophecy. I have really loved this book and looking foward to read the sequel.
