Julia Phillips’ world is an alternate universe away. Trapped in a land where government leaders want her dead, Julia is forced to run for her life with Evan and Reece, the two boys who brought her here. They’re on their own in a hostile landscape ruled by scavengers and thieves. But Evan is battling a deadly infection, and Julia finds herself racing against time as she tries to find the medicine … find the medicine that will save his life. She and Reece find an unlikely ally—Jo, a girl they free after finding her captured by bandits.
As the four travel across the country, Julia has something else to worry about—her memories are slowly being replaced by the Julia of Evan and Reece’s world. Will they find a way to send Julia home before it’s too late? Or will Julia’s body and mine be trapped THERE?

This book picks up right where “Here” left off. Thankfully you don’t feel like you missed tons of time or thing happening where the author needs to help you catch up.
I was in suspense from the start of the book and hanging on the edge of my seat throughout.
I wished I could read faster to find out what happened in the end. But the ride was a wild rollercoaster of emotions, suspense being the main one.
This book has no predictability, it is amazingly put together without giving away what would happen. Just an awesome read for not just Young Adults but Adults as well.
There by DGS. With only two books in this story and I really think the second book was better. I am not sure if it was because I understood how the portal worked and who the characters were by book two – but this second book was just great. I read through it pretty quick because I was so worried for Julia and what was happening. Was the secret government going to kill Julia? Would Julia make it back to her world? Would Julia be able to save Even before it is too late? It was cleverly written and the characters are simply the best – well developed, believable. Reese, Evan, and a new sidekick, Jo really make the story interesting.
There is the second book in the On The Other Side series by Denise Grover Swank. As I mentioned in a previous review, I normally don’t read this genre or type of story, but since I’m a fan of this author’s other books, I thought I would give it a chance. I’m really glad I did! In this book, Julia and her friends are forced to run for their lives after being chased by government leaders who want to capture them. They are living in an alternate universe and go on a journey through the ruined country with a new “ally”, Jo. Can they trust her or is she there as a spy? Both books were excellent and readers of any age will enjoy them, not only young adults. I’m hoping for a third book in this series so I can see where the characters are now and what they have been up to!
There by Denise Grover Swank is the 2nd book in the “On the Otherside” series, following the first book, Here. I really enjoyed reading Here and I think that I liked There even more. I felt that this book kept moving and I did not really get bored reading it. In fact, I could not put it down towards the end because I needed to know what was going to happen.
There were times when Julia’s decisions would annoy me but as the story progressed, her choices made more sense. Evan, Reece, and Julia certainly went on a journey in this book and it was exciting and also nerve-wracking. I was not sure who they could trust throughout most of the book until the last few chapters. I enjoyed all the main characters even though they had their flaws and I really enjoyed the addition of Jo to the story. The ending left me with mixed feelings, especially the last two chapters and the epilogue. I do wish there was a follow-up to the book because I want to read more about the main characters and the different universes.
Such a great book and follow up to Here. Definitely read that one first but you can’t go wrong with this series. Denise is such a great author and gives us so much drama and angst.
I honestly don’t know why I’m surprised that Denise has done it yet again. I flew right through them because I could not put them down. The woman is a literary genius. Her technique crosses all genres so if YA ain’t your thing she’s got plenty to offer! You will not be disappointed with this series or anything else she writes!
There did not disappoint. Just like Here, I could not put There down! There were so many wonderful twists, turns, and growth of each character throughout the book. I love these characters so much. Denise Grover Swank has a way of writing characters that make them feel real and when I finished this book I felt a void. I was not ready for Julie, Evan, Reece, and Jo’s stories to be over. I want to know how each of them deal with all the changes brought from the book ending. I loved the infinite possibilities ending that was included with the epilogue. It added more thought form my imagination.
