There Be Demons (Andor Demon Wars Book 1)
By: M. K. Theodoratus
5 out of 5 stars
The story There Be Demons (Andor Demon Wars Book 1) by M. K. Theodoratus is a wonderful fantasy book that I loved reading. It is a story that does an amazing job of world building and includes action, magic, and danger. It is a book that drew me in from the beginning and I was hooked. It had me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. I enjoyed reading about the character of Britt Kelly. She is a girl who at times is angry and is having a hard time dealing with her parent’s divorce. She then finds herself and a few of her friends drafted to become demon hunters with a group of Gargoyle guardians all the while dealing with the normal day to day worries of being a teenager. Will Britt and her friends be able to stop the evil demon’s plans? Read this book to find out. This story will appeal to anyone who loves fantasy and a fight between good vs. evil. Being a teenager is hard enough without the fight that Britt and her friends have on their hands. Worrying about schoolwork, what others say about them, and even a little romance makes for a full life. Add in demons and it gets quite hectic. Britt and her friends are teenagers in the way that they question authority and those who try to control what they do. I loved the spirit they show and also the loyalty that they have for each other. I enjoyed how detailed that the book was. There are times that I felt like I was right there with Britt and her friends. This is a story that had me glued to the pages until I had read the final one. It is a wonderful first book in a series and a story that I would recommend reading.
There Be Demons (Andor Demon Wars Book 1) By M.K. Theodoratus. This story is a well written young adult story with plenty of of action and adventure with characters that are as equally well written as the storyline. While I didn’t immediately feel myself drawn into it, it had a slower build but that didn’t deter me from continuing and once it picked up a bit I couldn’t wait to read it all. The storyline is well detailed and it has great world building. I do highly recommend this to those who like young adult and fantasy stories. Each character brings something unique to this story. I’m giving this book a four star review and recommend it. I’m excited to see where the author takes readers next.
Set in a near future the story centres around 14 year old Britt who is just trying to make it out of the projects alive and with good enough grades to secure her future. Her life changes when she and her friends are recruited to hunt the demons that are threatening to take over her home town.
This book was imaginative and the characters and world-building were very impressive. I liked the way the story flipped back and forwards from the identifiable “human” world to the demon world. The main character of Britt was strong and feisty, just like a lead character should be. I found myself cheering for her in many parts of the book. I am looking forward to reading more in this series.
This is my first book by this author and it was a great action packed story. This story was faced paced and had a whole lot going on and that wasn’t a bad thing. Some drama, mystery and a whole lot of mayhem. This story is follows a pretty awesome girl named Britt and her friends as they battle their way through life and protecting their town from demons. This story was well written and it kept my interest throughout the whole book. I was drawn to how well the characters were developed and i thought the story overall was great. It is fantasy based, so if that is your go to genre then i think this book would be perfect for you. I would recommend it to a friend!
Happy Reading!
There Be Demons by M.K. Theodoratus is a great addition to the YA fantasy world. This story focused on Britt who is a 14 yr old normal girl, until she isn’t. Then there’s Gillen who needs to help her in order to help himself and everyone else. The story overall was pretty enjoyable, I found myself following along and not getting bored. The characters were well written, with Britt you are wondering how much she really wants to be the hero and how much she wants to be blissfully ignorant, but you can’t unsee things unfortunately. It was a good read that I think my oldest son will enjoy.
There Be Demons by M. K. Theodoratus
Five Stars
Have you ever wanted but didn’t want to read a book? This story summary got my attention but I dislike demons or things that go bump in the night. I try to stay away. But this story is very interesting in the plot and how the author presents it to you. I really got into this book and couldn’t put it down. There Be Demons was entertaining, scary and mysterious. The characters were well developed and relatable in some ways. I really liked Britt she spoke her mind and showed no fear. I could go on but I really think you should check this out. The author has a very easy writing style to read. Though the story is long it’s worth the time spent.
There Be Demons, M. K. Theodoratus, book one in the Andor Demon Wars is a four star read.
This is usually the genre right up my street full if demon realms in the real world, full of fantasy and action. I thoroughly enjoyed it but felt it was slightly too slow paced to begin with but once the characters and story developed it was page turning you needed to know what was happening next.
There Be Demons- M.K. Theodoratus
4-stars
There Be Demons by M.K. Theodoratus was a very entertaining fantasy read! I was really intrigued by the storyline from the very beginning, this storyline was unlike anything I’ve read in the past. The Gargoyles, Demons and the Chosen ones had me sitting on the edge of my seat with every twist and turn.
I really enjoyed how detailed this story was and how well it was written. The many POV’s all flowed well with the storyline and I never found it hard to follow along. I did find that the story had a slower start where I found myself with many questions wondering how everything was going to play out, yet even with that being said I enjoyed how nothing about this story was predictable!
This was my very first book by this author but it won’t be my last, I’m looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.
There Be Demons is the first book in the Andor Demon Wars series. It can be read as a standalone.
I have to say this book was challenging to get into at first. The first third of the book felt like it was dragging on. I’d definitely say it is a slow burn story. However, once you get toward the middle, it starts to pick up. I will also say that I really did not like the main character at first. Britt comes across as a petulant brat. Although, to be fair, teens are full of angst, especially when their world feels out of control. Overall, I’d say it was an interesting read. The characters have a lot of dimension and the premise of the story is intriguing.
There Be Demons is the first book in the Andor Demon Wars by M. K. Theodoratus. Intrigued by the blurb of the story, I could not wait to get into this young adult fantasy. This is not a genre that I have read a lot of, not because I don’t like it, I just don’t see a lot of books like this. Maybe I have been living under a rock!
Britt moves to a new town and not all is as it should be. She and her friends become hunters, joining forces with a Gargoyle squad to bring the demons down. This tale was simply fascinating and enchanting. The journey they embarked on was highly dramatic and extremely energetic. To be young again. Reading the story was a refreshing delight, and this author’s work is one I could get lost in again and again. Cannot wait for more. 5 stars.
There Be Demons by M.K. Theodoratus is the first book in the Andor Demon Wars series. If you love YA novels then you should definitely give this book a go.
This book has been centred around some pretty great characters. Britt I found to be really likeable and a great heroine for this story. It was easy to get behind her and want to know more.
This book is obviously going to be part of a series as it was all about setting the scene of what is to come. That being said it still had a lot of action and adventure to it and has definitely left me excited for what is to come.
This book appears to be the start of what is going to be a fantastic series and I can’t wait to see what else is to come!
There Be Demons Andor Demons Book 1 by M.K. Theodoratus. This is a hang on to your seat young adult action book. Its the story of Britt Kelly a young girl struggling with her parents divorce when she is having to fight demons she never believed in. She and her friends become demon hunters and they Gargoyle Guardians on top of all of the everyday struggles of a teen. Crushes, heart aches, and magic! Britt is a strong young lady and she and her friends are going to save their city and survive their teenage years. This book is full of friendships, magic and mystery! Its a great young adult fantasy novel.
This book is unlike any I have read before. It takes the angel/demon mythology to a whole new level and though it did take me some time to get used to the terminology, the story gripped from the beginning. It is very easy to underestimate a YA story and think of it as challengingly written but I personally love the genre so when a book like this comes along and changes that perception I am very happy. As I read this story I found myself pulled in by the imagery of the surroundings and the build up of the characters at the same time. This is the first in a series and though I may need a break to reset my brain, I am excited to tackle the next one. I will just have to remember my demonology when I do.
A great read about opposites. Gillen is a gargoyle warrior trying to protect the world from demons from another world invading and hurting people. Stretched thin, he and his team try their best as imps attack the docklands with more ferocity than ever before. When the Angeli Commanders finally send their hosen warriors, Gillen thinks all their problems will be resolved. But he is in more than he expected and is tested to his limits. Can he rise to the challenge or is he stuck in his old ways?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns that I just simply couldn’t put down. Well developed characters like Britt standing up for herself but caring underneath or Cahal sarcastic but kind and supportive underneath. Great cast of supporting characters like the kind and supportive father figure Uzeel or the strong minded Treasa.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel in the sense of overcrowding with the small spaces and the city full of life and people all jostling for space in the flats. Or the authors wonderful sense of imagination with the vivid colours of purples and reds and greens of the monsters with horns and fangs terrible but beautiful or absurd but still believable with creatures like Abraxas. Or the use of smell throughout with the horrible odors so strong and pungent it is as if you were actually there. Or the gargoyles themselves as something new in the fantasy genre as a wonderful mixture of wings and tails and ears for a creature that is magical but still believable and beautifully written. I loved the authors fun sense of exploration, with new creatures and powers with their own rules and societies and hierarchies and laws existing side by side with humans.
A wonderful addition to the fantasy genre. This was made more compelling by giving the gargoyles more humanity with Gillen’s worries and anxieties or Uzeel’s kind supportive nature or with the instead of just being cold superior beings angels usually are in literature. this made them more realistic and sympathise more with their problems for a great read.
I also loved the way the chapters alternated between the realism of high school life and the fantasy of the demons combined perfectly for a great read. The use of thoughts as part of the narrative was a brilliant addition and worked well to display the different characters struggles and worries
Fast paced action and high stakes in a fantasy world made for a highly captivating read. Overall, a great read and I would give it five stars.
There be Demons Book 1 in the Andor Demon Wars Series is my first read from author M.K Theodoratus. This author has created a brilliantly fast paced, action packed read of the journey of four teens that discover and get out into a world we’re demons actually exist.
These characters are individual, strong characters that are relatable and enjoyable and brings this story even more depth to this fantasy read.
This book was a mentally visual read that as I was reading along I could picture the whole story in my mind as if I was really there. I was left on the edge of my seat numerous times and kept turning the pages to find out more! It had a great mixture of magic, mystery, danger and so much more which made this a brilliant first read from this author.
After this read, I’m sure M.K Theodoratus will become a go to author. I can’t wait to see what else is to happen in this new series, and will look forward to more.
This sci-fi dystopian fantasy is engaging from start to finish. Our heroine is spunky and relatable. I found the journey the author takes the reader on fascinating and rich with detail. I enjoyed the universe I found myself immersed in. I enjoyed the book and look forward to continuing the series.
4 Stars
There Be Demons is the first book in the Andor Demon Wars Series by M.K Theodoratus is a really great YA urban fantasy- with an action-packed adventure woven through it. There is lots of danger, demons, gargoyle guardians, discoveries, mayhem, drama, mystery, magic, battles, and so much more…. As with my previous read from Ms. Theodoratus, this story made for great reading, with an intriguing plot, well written story, fantastic world building, and interesting characters who swept me along with them as their adventure unfolded, engaging my attention right till the very end.
This is a very different world to ‘ours’- where the city of Trebridge has been invaded by Demons from Gehenathh. The only thing standing in the demon’s way are four gargoyle guardians who are tasked with protecting the city. When Gillen, the leader of the gargoyles sends for reinforcements, the commanders (Angeli) send four inexperienced teenagers to help battle the demons.
Britt Kelly is one of the teens who were drafted by the Angeli commanders and sent to fight beside the gargoyle guardians in The Demon Wars. There is a lot to learn, especially if they hope to win. As these unlikely heroes hold the fate of Trebridge and all humankind in their hands. .
This has a definite good vs evil theme to it that had me cheering the band of misfits on- anxiously reading to find out how the story plays out. Again, Ms. Theodoratus has created wonderful characters who have their own, somewhat quirky, and very individual personalities- who continued to develop and grow over the course of the story. Brit and her friends definitely discover a lot, not only about the world (of demons) but also about themselves.
Well done!
Thank you, Ms. Theodoratus!
There Be Demons (Andor Demon Wars Book 1) by M. K. Theodoratus was an addicting read that had me hooked.
Not my first read by this author, I knew going in that I was in for an detailed rich read, full of wonderful characters. I was not disappointed, this book met all my expectations and more.
A solid read, I loved the flow and the pacing. I will say that this book put a lot of time into building up the characters, a lot of introductions, background, and setting up the overall plot. This book, in the greater sense is a set up book for the series to come. This seems to be the growing trend lately, and to be frank, I’m not that big of a fan of it. Now, as far as set up books goes this one was pretty freaking good, and if the background was tone down a tad, I’d say it would have had the perfect balance. It was the shortness of the action scenes that threw off that formula. I think if those action scenes were a bit longer, and a little more often, then that would have shot this book up into the stars.
Overall this book is worth the read, and I’m invested. For a book about demons and war, it’s a pretty fun read. It’s entertaining, engaging and original. Yeah sure there’s some predictable YA tropes, but they’re written in such way where they’re not annoying but a fun nod. So please take my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval, that you will fall into this uniquely fresh world that will have you wanting more.
Happy Reading

I enjoyed this action packed young adult story. I found this story to be fast paced, engaging and creative. This is a story about Britt and her friends and the journey they take us on protecting the town from demons. They are all great, strong characters that make the story come alive. They are creative and connectable. I think that Britt is my favorite because she is spunky, determined, just a great character. I enjoyed watching her figure out her powers. I highly recommend this book.
