From New York Times Bestselling author K. Bromberg comes a standalone contemporary romance about trusting fate and finding yourself again.Jack Sutton was the man I didn’t want to need. His know-it-all attitude. His annoying suggestions. His outlook on life.He was determined to help me while I had resolved to figure it out on my own. But he taught me things I’d forgotten. How to trust. How to … own.
But he taught me things I’d forgotten.
How to trust. How to believe in myself. Who I was.
The problem?
I went and fell in love with him.

Tatum Knox was the disaster I should have walked away from.
Her ruined reputation. Her failing business. Her chaotic life.
She hated me at first sight and yet intrigued me all at the same time.
I was only supposed to be there six months.
I was supposed to use that time to make amends for things I’d done wrong.
Instead I fell in love with her.

They say it’s better to have loved and lost, than not to have loved at all. Does that hold true when the love is based on a lie to begin with?

„Time fades all scars. Even the ones we can’t see.“
This book is another example of why K. Bromberg is a one-click author for me. Her stories are simply amazing and I always find in them everything that makes up a perfect romance. Then You Happened has it all- a beautiful love story, sensuality, emotional depth and a bit of humor here and there. But what I love the most in this book is that the author turned disappointing and saddening background into something wonderful and heartwarming. Tate and Jack’s story is touching and uplifting. It shows that even if you’re at the your lowest, there’s always a chance to turn everything around.
Tate is a proud woman. I loved that she she didn’t let what happened to her broke her spirit. She’s stubborn and fierce, maybe sometimes a bit pig-headed, but it’s totally understandable considering all the things she’s been through. She’s also determined to reach her goals. But inside Tate is vulnerable and fragile.
Jack is strong, confident and a little cocky, but we learn quickly that he’s also a caring and loving man. He’s protective, kind and selfless. He has a charm on him that made me instantly fall for him and he oozes charisma that makes him very intriguing.
At first they butted heads and it was very entertaining to see this power play. The banter was amusing and hot at the same time. But the sizzling chemistry was so palpable that I could see the sparks flying whenever they were in each other’s presence. Despite the secrets they both kept I could feel the intense connection they share and I couldn’t wait for them to give in to this undeniable attraction.
Then You Happened is a beautiful story about finding yourself and coming to terms with the past. It’s poignant, soulful and a little bit suspenseful because of the mystery hanging in the air. Jack and Tate brought so much love and steam to this book that I was constantly fanning myself. But they also made me laugh and cry. The unexpected plot twist almost brought me to my knees, but K. Bromberg in her true fashion beautifully put me back together. I’m enchanted with this story!
Devastatingly beautiful with so many poignant moments.
Then You Happened is full of so many different emotions that it will overwhelm you, consume you and bring you to your knees.
Jack Sutton is sexy, arrogant and a man on a mission who won’t stop until he he succeeds. Fueled by guilt and a promise more or less that he made to his father, Jack finds himself in a place and situation that he should walk away from but for the life of him he just can’t.
Tatum Knox is alone. Her lively hood is quickly slipping through her fingers, the life she knew a complete lie and because of that she is an outcast to the people in the town she lives in. She needs help but trust is an issue, and with no trust you are on your own.
Jacks arrogant and cocky attitude has Tatum instantly disliking him and dismissing him like he isn’t needed.
Tatum is a beautiful disaster that he just can’t walk away from. He manages to get her to change her mind and shows her what it is that’s needed to save her ranch and for her business to thrive.
Jack and Tatum are in some ways like two peas in a pod and in others they are chalk and cheese. Both have secrets that they hold close to their chests and both are looking for redemption from past mistakes. Although they have serious issues with each other you can feel the chemistry between them, the pull that drives them closer and closer together as each day passes. With time comes trust and feelings then start to emerge and blossom. But like all things, when the truth is revealed and the trust is broken the effects can be catastrophic.
K. Bromberg has written one her best with Then You Happened. Intrigue and emotion packed with a twist that you won’t see coming until the time is right. It will make your heart skip a beat and your toes curl in the best possible way.
“I realize all of these feelings, these realizations, within me came to life the minute he stepped on my porch. The minute he somehow entered my life.”
I am at a loss for words with Then You Happened. It has taken me all day to process enough to write this review. This is my first book of 2020 and K. Bromberg is starting my year off with a bang. This story was a breath of fresh air and far from the authors norm. At first I had mixed feelings with this book. But boy did that change by the end. I loved so freaking much about this story! I can’t even begin to name it all. It was unique, emotional, and utterly compelling. Then You Happened was like a hurricane raging onto the shore of my emotions. I have never been so all over the place and wrecked. This story truly is self discovery at its finest. Tate and Jack are seriously one of my favorite couples now. They pulled out all the stops with their story. I felt equal parts frustration as love for them. They made you laugh, cry and swoon. With all the plot twists and angst your heart desires. If I had any complaints it would be that their book had to end. I simply wanted so much more of Tate and Jacks wild love.
Tate is by far one of the strongest heroines I have read. From her determination to her independence, I admired so much about her character. She was vulnerable, complicated, and real. Even at her weakest moments Tate never lost her sass. My heart broke for her many times over this story. With every obstacle her character faced, I found myself admiring her that much more. Tatum Knox has a uniqueness that will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Jack had this cocky arrogance that had me eating out the palm of his hand from the very start. I am obsessed with his character. He was mysterious and yet completely captivating. I wanted to know all his secrets. And don’t even get me started on his southern charm. What can I say, I’m a sucker for a man in a cowboy hat. I am calling dibs now ladies, cause Jack Sutton will make you swoon. He rages through the pages on a mission to own your heart.
“I force myself to walk away from the woman with storm clouds in her eyes and defiance in her voice.”
*5 STARS
Well earned for this beautifully emotional story. The author nailed every aspect of this plot and characters. This book was EVERYTHING! I can not recommend reading it enough.
Wow…… Tate trusted no one and seemed bitter. Jack seemed lost but was just as stubborn as Tate. When they first met they clashed. She was on her own and he seemed arrogant. This was a slow burn with so much back story on both that you have to really sit and read to catch the grasp on why Tate is the way she is and why Jack is the way he is. Tate seemed bitter because of everything that happened to her. Once you read everything that she went thru you couldn’t blame her for being the way she was; that poor woman couldn’t catch a break. And Jack?! Oh my Jack also was doing things to fulfill a promise but he never expected to fall for Tate. But he still had his own demons to battle. It was sad but yet beautiful and their love was so genuine and the epilogue shows how far they’ve come and what they created. It was really beautiful.
Tatum is one very broken women who followed her heart away from the security of her parents and former life. Now she is struggling to survive despite animosity from the local town and the worry of foreclosure after her loser of a husband died leaving her with a ton of debt. Suddenly the gorgeous and mysterious Jack Sutton arrives on her doorstep offering to turn the ranch around for her, too good to be true?
Tatum doesn’t trust anyone anymore and refuses his help but he manages to persuade her to take him on as her manager as he can see through her hurt sarcasm and meanness towards him. The back and forth between them is brilliant and the simmering chemistry is obvious but who is going to give first?
But it is not only help on the ranch that Tatum is giving into but but soon she is struggling not to give him her heart because he is leaving in 6 months after his contract is up. Once they give in to their feelings it is passion and fireworks and Tatum begins to regain some of her trust and sense of self. Unfortunately Jack is hiding a big secret, (and that one was really unexpected!!) which totally blows everything apart. Will Tatum ever forgive him and trust him again? Will there be a future for them? An awesome start to 2020 reading from Ms Bromberg, loved it!
At this point I think K Bromberg can just get a five star review from me, I love all of her books, her writing is phenomenal and this book is magnificent, Tate and Jack’s story, an enemies to lovers romance, my favorite trope, with a slow burn, where there is angst, betrayal, phenomenal chemistry and a hot cowboy. This is all you need to get on a ride you will never forget, this story has way more than you think and it’s just way more amazing than you would’ve ever thought of. Totally recommended more than 5 stars!
This book will hook you in from the first page, and you will be waiting for the other show to drop throughout the whole book.
Tatum is out of her element and doing the best she can with what resources she can find. Her determination, fire, and overall strength cannot be matched. After everything she went through, she is still out to make things right, prove her worth, and show her independence.
Jack is a mystery from the start. He is loyal and does so much for Tatum, but you can tell he’s hiding secrets a mile long.
I figured out some secrets and twists pretty early on, but Kristy doesn’t bring any of them into play until the end. I think that is what made this book work so well. I was constantly thinking… “Am i right? Am I right? Oh my gosh…if I’m right, it’s not going to be good!” I wanted to know what happened and how things would play out after all the secrets came to light.
I loved the ending. I felt like it was the perfect ending for this couple, and it worked for them.

4.5 Breathtaking Stars!
This breathtaking and poignant story captured me from the start and never let go! Tatum gave up everything to follow the man she loved and trusted unconditionally. Only after his death did she discover the true depth of his betrayal. She is left alone, struggling to pick up the pieces after living a lie for so long. Jack might be the answer to all her problems, but she has been burned too many times to trust easily. He is a mystery, who not only helps her redeem her ranch, but helps her to believe in hope and feel alive again. Jack has his own reasons for being there, and falling for this complicated woman was not in his plans. But the more he learns the truth, the more he falls for this strong, brave, forbidden woman. Suddenly escaping with his heart protected before she learns the truth about him is impossible. I loved both Jack and Tatum, they felt real and authentic and their relationship was so raw, poignant, and hard fought. They were so perfect for each other and their chemistry was palpable. I love that Ms Bromberg did not cut corners but allowed us to feel every thought, and emotion that Jack and Tatum experienced. This is a moving, emotional, and seductive story of not only betrayal and sacrifice, but also about redemption, healing, and learning to trust and love again. It brought out so many extreme emotions and I loved every minute of it!
Seriously can you get any better if a guy than Jack Sutton. I fell so hard in love with him. Then You Happened was full of some really great characters (Will needs a story pretty please) and despite not liking Tatum very much for a good portion of the book you eventually understand why she is the way she is and you fall in love with her too. Tatum and Jack’s love story is an incredible journey you won’t want to miss out on.

4.5 Stars
A book just needs to have K Bromberg on the cover, and I’m willing to give it a go. Then You Happened is an emotional, intense, steamy , intriguing and raw small town romance.
The characters are complex and flawed, yet incredibly endearing and relatable.
Jack and Tate immediately rub each other the wrong way, but they also both need each other in order to reach their goals. I adored their banter and interactions that whilst antagonistic and snarky at times are also full of depth and emotion. This pair are quite similar in the fact that they are both stubborn and very strong willed.
Jack is a sexy, confident, driven and successful hero, who is fueled by guild and has his fair share of secrets and regrets.
Tate has her won secrets and is vulnerable and slow to trust after being betrayed and hurt one too many times in the past. She’s incredibly hard working, driven and resilient and more than a little standoffish.
I highly recommend this title if you enjoy a small town, second chance romance.
Then You Happened….
I am so in love with this story. Tatum and Jack are far from perfect, but they are perfect for this book. I have missed K. Bromberg stories and knew she had to take the time to get this story right. Then You Happened is pure perfection. You get the steamy love story, you live through the nightmare that Tate is struggling to get through. You find yourself stuck in Lone Star and am not sure what to think about the towns people. You reflect of the burdens we all hold and relate with these characters.
Jack is a god send. I fell for our hero and could not stop rooting for him to make his way into Tate’s heart. There is a lot of lows, but they work hard to thrive.
I love Knox ranch. I wish it was a true place to visit in real life. To be near the horses and riding. To jump in the pool and scream under water so the world can’t hear the pain. This story has my heart and need for a re-read. I could not get enough!
This a story of opposites attract. Of hidden agendas. Of lies. Of mistrust. Of faith. Of pain. Of healing. This is a story that Kristy wrote, in a house that Kristy built with a family that Kristy created in a world that’s not her norm. But being a Texas girl it is my norm and she rocked it!!
I wasn’t sure I would like Tatum at first. She seemed a bit harsh, too stubborn and filled with self-pity, but then Kristy does what she does. She took a character that I wouldn’t normally identify with and she made me love her. She slowly brought out her inner strength and I found myself cheering her own.
I am a sucker for a cowboy. As I said I am a Texas girl and boy did she nail Jack. The simplicity of him. From the muddy boots to the tipping of his hate. The raging temper to the yes ma’am. He had the charm. But he had the anger. And he knew when to turn it on and when to turn it off.
I loved every deep, romantic, heartfelt moment of this story. But then again it’s Kristy and that speaks volumes alone.
Then You Happened is so touching and really made my heart feel good. It’s a great story about a woman trying to get back on her feet after suffering a tragedy while trying to save her ranch and a man who’s willing to help and is also seeking redemption.
Jack and Tatum were literally like oil and vinegar yet explosive together in more ways than one. I couldn’t help but love these two with their witty banter and strong personalities and deep down, they had hearts of gold. Their connection was undeniable and they needed each other more than they knew. Jack was so dang swoon worthy and one sexy cowboy! And I really liked Tatum with her wild, spit-fire attitude.
Then You Happened’s storyline is enjoyable and has a wonderful mixture of sweet, sexy, humor, secrets, a little heart ache and romance. I loved every moment of this book!!
Bromberg does it again! Then You Happened gave me all the feels. It was beautiful and heartbreaking but she put all the pieces back togehter.
Tate is a fiesty wild cracker of a woman. She’s not afriad to stand up for herself and that’s something I love about her.
Jack comes across as cocky at first but a few more chapters and you’ll be absolutely in love with him.
Tate’s story will make you cry and Jack will make you root for them in a way you never thought possible!
*** More than 5 “Next time!!!” stars***
…TODAY IS THE DAY YOU OWN YOUR WILD…
And that’s K. Bromberg for you, guys!!!
God, this book was sooo beautiful… One of my favorites for this year already!!!
This book was sweet, but intense… sexy and funny, and full of secrets…
This story was about a woman who was broken in many aspects and a man that wanted to fullfill a promise to himself and to his father…
These two were brought together by fate and it is in their hands if they will find their way to each other or they will bypassed it!!!
“Time fades all scars. Even the ones we can’t see…”
Wow! Literally, Kristy blew my mind!!! In every aspect…
I loved the scenery very much, i loved all the horses and the ranch life, i loved the struggles and the fights between these two and i loved how the author connected the dots…
Even though, i had a very good guess what about was all of that, i still loved every single moment in here!!!
“I’m gonna go now, Knox.”
“My name is Tate.”
“I know what your name is.”
“Then why do you always call me Knox?”
“Because it reminds me that you’re another man’s.”
Tate Knox is an isolated woman… After her husband’s death and after the discovering of all of his lies, she is struggling to survive and to make her ranch profitable for once again… Unfortunately, all of his lies made her untrusting toward others and it doesn’t help the fact that everyone in town is against her…
She needs help but she can’t trust noone and when Jack Sutton is coming into her ranch seeking a job, she just can’t let him in, especially since he is so full of himself…
“Am I terrified?
Hell, yes.
But of what though?
Of living.”
“…All of these feelings, these realizations, within me came to life the minute he stepped on my porch. The minute he somehow entered my life.”
Jack Sutton is in no need of all this drama in his life, but he had given a promise and he wants to fulfill it… And there is no better candidate than Tate Knox… But her trust issues and her hostility toward him doesn’t help his case…
He has to find a way in and he is determined to succeed no matter what…
But Jack has his own secrets and he can not fall for Tate… Because that won’t be good for neither of them!!!
“Trust.
That’s what it all comes down to, and for the fucking life of me I’m not sure why I care so much if she trusts me… but I know that I hate that she doesn’t.”
“Like a jackass, I just stand there and stare at her. At Tate. At the woman I want but have known since day one that I should walk away from.”
So what will happen with these two???
Will Tate give her trust to this man and let him help her???
Will she be immune to his charm???
And if she will give him a piece of her, what will be the cost that she will have to pay???
What Jack is hiding and how serious of destroying everything it will be???
“We were doomed from the beginning you and I…
I fought it with everything I have, but I fucking fell for you.”
Well, i loved Jack and Tate so much!!!
He was a man determined and with so many skills and connections… He was the perfect man to help Tate and her ranch…
I loved seeing his struggle to stay away from her, but it was impossible to do it after all, even though he had good reasons not to!!!
I loved how he was with Tate…. How he was loving animals… How he was trying to be what Tate was needing… and how much strength he was giving her…
“For a man who doesn’t ever need shit like comfort or connection, her head under the curve of my neck, her arms wrapped around me, and the shudder of her hiccuped sobs against my chest feel pretty fucking good.”
“Somewhere along the line, I forgot I came here because of a promise I made… because of her. Tatum Knox. The unexpected woman I can’t seem to get enough of.
I’ve definitely fucking fallen for her.
And hell if that isn’t a hard one to swallow.”
As for Tate??? That woman denied her wants and needs for a man and she payed the overpriced cost with a broken heart, broken dreams, a broken account and a broken house…
She wasn’t deserving all this hate that she was receiving…
But she was stubborn, proud and determined to succeed… Yep, her dreams were broken, but her spirit won’t ever break… Saving her home and her horses became her new dream and with Jack’s help, she is one step closer to achieve it!!!
Also, Tate had sworn off men who could consume her, but unfortunately, a certain cowboy is getting under her skin…
“I never liked to rock the boat. I never wanted to make waves before.
“And now?”
“And now, I’ll capsize the damn boat if I have to in order to stand up for myself.”
“It isn’t possible.
Falling for Jack isn’t part of the deal.
No way.”
Well, i don’t know what more to say about this story than that i loved it fiercely…
I loved the main couple very much…
I loved how they were between them…
I loved how they were fighting for each other… for their next time!!!
I just loved every word in this book!!!
K. Bromberg never disappoints… That’s the only sure thing!!!
“But then you happened…
Your grit and ferocity and devotion and love and your wild happened…
Coming here, getting to know you? For the life of me, I didn’t understand how fate crossed our paths, but I know I wanted you to fight for all of this. I wanted to fight for it beside you. Hell, I wanted to help fix the things he broke in you. Maybe if I helped you, then I could figure out myself…
But then you went and made me fall in fucking love with you, Tatum. Then YOU happened.”
***I received an Arc for the exchange of an honest review. Thank you!***
Then You Happened was unexpected, emotional, and beautiful. I had no idea what I was getting myself into but when I see K. Bromberg is releasing a new book I am all over it. This story was no exception. It was amazing from the start. The story sucks you in.
Jack and Tate are complete opposites. Two people that you would never expect to be together, to have any sort of connection but they do. Both try to fit it, but you can only fight chemistry for so long, especially when you work together. But for some reason these two fit, they work. It isn’t always an easy road, but they try.
I felt for Tate. She gave up everything and is on the verge of losing everything. Until Jack. She felt alone and I think that is something that can touch anyone who reads this story. At some point everyone feels alone, just probably not in the same sense as Tate.
If you’re looking for an emotional and beautiful story about complete opposites that is full of tension and complications then this one is for you. Then You Happened is a MUST READ and it is one of my Top Reads of 2020.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
Tatum leaves home with an ultimatum, ditch the boyfriend or your family and inheritance. She basically told daddy dearest to shove it and found out years later that Daddy was right. But she couldn’t go back home and let her parents see just how her life turned out. After her husband died, she is left with his bad debt, her ruined reputation, a failing horse ranch, chaotic life and a need to never trust anyone again.
Jack Sutton has one last thing he has to do before he is to go back home and run the family ranch. He was only supposed to help her for six months, to turn things around. Not fall in love with her, that kinda throws a wrench in his plans.
While Tatum/Tate is learning how to run a horse ranch, she is also learning how to trust a man again. And Jack is seeing a wild side in Tate he never thought she possessed. The more time they spend together, the more the feelings blossom. But the problems and secrets will drive them apart.
Will Jack tell Tate the truth before she learns them on her own? Will he be able to help her save the ranch? Can they get past the lies and secrets that he is keeping?
I loved everything about this story and it is heartbreaking at times and even makes you laugh. Reading a K. Bromberg story will make you feel like you are right there in the story and that is one of the reasons I love her writing style. So grab this one and enjoy it!
**Wicked Reads Review Team**
A sure thing!!! That’s what Jack said, when he showed up to help her with her ranch! Tate was not so sure! She didn’t trust anyone. Well, at one time she did! But with lies, deceit and heartbreak it took that trust away. It took awhile but she slowly began to trust Jack; although she didn’t fully because she kept a secret close to her vest. And Jack worked hard for that trust even though he was harboring his own secrets. And what a shock when that comes to light. I didn’t expect it! But totally makes sense! I loved how these two tried to fight the attraction they had for one another but as time went on the harder it was. They worked together to help build Tate’s reputation to accepted other than judgement every time she was in town. To stop the rumors about her and her ranch. Jack is really good for her, showing her that she is her wild. And can conquer anything if she puts her mind to it. This is a stand alone that I really enjoyed. I highly recommend!
I do not read novels featuring Cowboys ….
I do not read plotlines with horses and cattle ….
Nope …
But I read “Then You Happened” by K. Bromberg …
There are Cowboy’s in this book, lot’s of hot weather, horses and cattle so you might wonder about my first statement. While there might be all of these things inside this novel this is far from a “Cowboy Novel” simply because it’s written by Ms. Bromberg.
Thrown directly in the middle of an argument the reader will never want to stop reading because the story is capturing your full attention at all times.
I admit that it didn’t take me that long to guess certain things – but I really have a vivid imagination and read tons of books per year – so do not mind me when it comes to that. Also it does not really matter if you think you guessed something or not because the story will still not let you go as you want all the details. And for me the focus was really the leading characters first and the storyline second.
If you read books by this author before (and I highly recommend to do that) you will know that the writing is flawless and the characters are beautifully developed. In this special case I could almost feel the heat of a summer in Texas on my skin and that is a feature in itself as we have winter outside and it is (depressingly) raining nonstop. So if you want to feel warm and need something to light your mood that alone is a good reason to read this book.
Now, what can I say about the characters? Like the plot suggested – Tatum is a mess of epic proportions – partly characterwise because she has been burned in the past and also because of outside forces. Jack, on the other hand, seems to have an agenda – which is obvious from the first time the reader gets to meet him. But he is commanding attention wherever he goes and whatever he says.
Throwing these two into one pot is a combination so explosive that only a good writing style can handle the outcome. And I am positive the readers will love what Ms. Bromberg did.
So we had me commenting on the plot, the characters and the setting – which leaves me with the dislikes … and I really had to sleep on that and what I came up with was Jack’s sister (and this is no real spoiler as it gives nothing of the plot) – I really dislike Jack’s sister…. so much that I even wondered if this book would be a series and one of it would feature her …. HOW would the author make me like that woman? (And I have no doubt – with all her writing magic – Ms. Bromberg def. would make me love her)
Would I recommend this book? Yes without a doubt and I think you will enjoy it as much as I did.
