A leather-bound journal. A single father. A woman in pursuit of freedom.Garner Bradford, heir to the troubled Bradford Shipping empire, doesn’t know much about babies. But he’s going to have to learn fast because he’s just become a single father to his newborn daughter. As he confesses through his journal entries, he’s not entirely sure how to keep a newborn alive, whether or not he’ll ever patch … ever patch together his shattered heart, or how to forgive himself for his mistakes.
Career girl Kathleen Burke is wholly uninterested in settling down. She has big dreams, and none of them include Garner and his small hometown in Washington State. Yet she can’t seem to get her handsome boss out of her head or her heart. There’s something extraordinarily tempting about his beautifully sad green eyes. . . .
Told through journal entries, phone conversations, and letters, Then Came You is a unique, heart-stirring romance novella by acclaimed author Becky Wade.

The author chose a unique way to tell the history of Garner Bradford (father of the three Bradford sisters). It worked well in the novella format, giving me lots of details while covering a lot of time and still making me feel for the characters. I read the first novel in the series earlier this year, and this story made me want to return soon to the other two. That says a lot, I think.
I loved the characters; fun read.
I adore this novella! It’s an emotionally charged beginning to the series! I’m excited to read more about the Bradford sisters!
Recommend to readers who enjoy clean, contemporary romance.
I won a copy. All views expressed are my honest opinion.
Then Came You—Becky Wade– This was a good short story. I did feel like Garner couldn’t catch a break, and there was a lot of bad that happened in a very short period of time. I loved the epistolary style of the story! Happy Reading!
Ok so the one negative thing about this novella first. The letter writing, journal writing, phone conversation, phone message style of writing is not my favorite. Personally, it’s harder for me to understand and follow a story written that way. But really that was the only real negative for me.
I loved the story and the characters ! Yes Garner was flawed and made mistakes, but he learned from them. He acknowledged them, and took steps to change. This just seemed so realistic to me. I felt sad for the characters at times, frustrated for them, embarrassed for them… it was just such a captivating story!!
Becky Wade did a good job at portraying a suffering dad: heavy on the outside as on the inside, His life goes from struggle to struggle, with ups a downs & twists in the plot. The numerous other characters might be exaggerated but it is needed though. A pleasant read as they all spiritually grow along the way in this faith filled romance based on letters, journals, phone calls & dialogs, instead on the usual point of view from characters.
I loved this book! Becky does such a great job of drawing into her characters lives to the point that you just want more. Thankfully this is just your intro into the wonderful Bradford family. She does such a phenomenal job at setting up this series.
I really love prequel novels because it sets the stage for the book series. I love the unique way Becky Wade told the story of Garner Bradford’s life through a series of journal entries, phone messages, conversations, and hand-written notes. His journey isn’t an easy one and tragedy seems to follow him. He eventually finds strength in becoming the kind of father his young girls need and the strength to forgive himself of past mistakes. I admire a man who can step up to the plate when life throws curve balls. I also ached for him when he shut his heart off from feeling the healing power of love. I can certainly understand why, but it still broke me inside. I watched as his character stretched & changed and life became good once again. A heartfelt beauty from ashes story that touched me deeply. I can’t wait to dive into this series and read the grown-up stories of his daughters Nora, Willow and Brittany Bradford!
“I’m forgiven. It’s hard to believe. It doesn’t make sense. It’s not fair or deserved, but it’s true. I’m forgiven. God’s grace is like a rushing river. It’s far more powerful than I am. My sins don’t stand a chance against it. I’ve made awful mistakes, but I’m beginning to realize that God was able to use those mistakes. He’s been working behind the scenes for my good all along.”~Garner Bradford
This story was told through phone calls and messages, notes, and journal entries. While a fun, challenging exercise for the writer, it got a little old. Interesting story though.
Excellent book, different story concept. Very enjoyable.
The format of the book – told through letters, phone calls, and diary entries is very original.
good reading enjoyed characters
Terrific
What a beautiful beginning to know the story of the Bradford Sisters, by getting to know their day and their moms.
Unique manner with which to begin a new series of stories.
I loved this book.
I enjoyed this book immensely. Garner had a hard road to travel but with God’s help he found himself. Kathleen was funny and charming. Very nice read.
A man grows from a boy to a man of strong character through difficult circumstances. It is when he surrender to his Lord that he becomes what he is intended to be.
This is a good Christian romance that is totally realistic. A rich son in a shipping coming owned by his family has a baby out of wedlock. When his girlfriend runs off he marries a new love on the rebound. They have a baby and then she is killed. He is done with women. Then comes Elizabeth who only wants a career at a makeup company in New York. But she takes a job at the shipping company in Washington state to pay her bills.
Good book
It was written in a different format tnan most novels. It started slow but got more interesting as it went.
